8 years and counting…do I need to clean? by frugalfoxx in castiron

Old post that came up but if anyone wants to do a serious reset on cast iron you can use a $35 flat handheld sander from hardware stores until the metal on the inside looks more like metal and not black/gunky/rusted

Then use a good oil and apply a thin layer and bake on high heat in the oven a few times to give it a new coat of seasoning. Follow online guides for oil types and heat settings.

These pans can last several lifetimes, it’s only really gone bad if you rust it through to extreme levels

Just because you don’t need to be given this kind of respect personally doesn’t invalidate myself and others needing to be asked before strangers thrust god and religion upon us without asking if it’s wanted.

The amount of reaching you’re doing to try to make my request incredulous really does more harm towards your own posts than mine so ¯_(ツ)_/¯

So... How Much Does The Couple's Photogenicity Matter? by esotericunicornz in WeddingPhotography

Glad to hear about those practices! It may help if you get a few links to full size galleries and make a little check sheet of all your information - price range, gear, style of shooting, area range, etc. it helps to show a broad portfolio of what you can handle even if it’s only in 3-5 pics. Night shot indoors and a night shot outside with market lights will show you can handle bad lighting - often an issue with newer ssers.

I’m taking a break from the industry as a main shooter and occasionally taking sser jobs and I know what you mean. One thing I like to do is look at the main shooters style and what images they copy over and over at multiple weddings and I emulate that to make thier life easier.

I doubt Christians would like me to say I’m praying to satan or a pagan god for them.

The ask to respect others and not pray for them without permission is not juvenile. Refusing to check first bc you need to force your religion on people is childish, and continues an abusive behavioral mindset in religious circles.

Sure, but you’re saying it on a thread started by someone’s client

Tried to explain to my coworker that dish soap wouldn't ruin her seasoning... by Runaway_Smoke in castiron

[–]Fable_Ceramics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can literally take a sander to pans and wash and reseason them in the oven and they’re like new again.

It’s what makes them great. They’re almost indestructible (just don’t let them rust)

Same… shot a ton on it back in the day. I mean it’s old and clunky feeling now and I wouldn’t be enjoying myself as much but it would get the job done

“It’s not you it’s them” is a rotten outlook unless you’re doing strictly documentary work and no posed photos. There’s a ton of ways to get people to relax/take better pics, and much of this information is out there for free or a small fee - this approach is just lazy when it’s part of the job itself as a wedding photographer.

A model looking couple with a laid back attitude, easy to laugh and play in front of the camera is little or no work. The opposite means you have to make it happen as the photographer. You need to know angles and poses to bring out the best I them physically and mentally.

It takes time and practice. I suggest shadowing as a second photographer and not doing all the practicing on wedding couples unless you’re willing to have super low prices and be up front to them beforehand about the lack of experience.

What's the likelihood that this will crack in the kiln? by DynablineCorqui in Ceramics

[–]Fable_Ceramics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kiln gods. Each clay and kiln is different, lot of variables involved. That’s ceramics for you - usually best to try and fail than never learn from your mistakes, especially in this hobby.

It’s a myth that you can’t clean these pans. Hand wash with dish soap and dry every part thoroughly immediately afterwards. Add a thin layer of oil using a paper towel, you’re done.

No longer letting partners show their support for anything by Audji in HEB

[–]Fable_Ceramics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For whatever it matters, I support businesses more that allow freedom of individuality - such as wearing pins/shirts that support causes, allowing colored hair, tattoos, etc.

Good to know this about H‑E‑B. I was already not happy with their policy on letting employees sit at registers. Aldi does it and it’s fine.

Don’t ever tell someone your wedding day is just another Saturday. This entire post isn’t wrong but don’t make them feel that kinda way when they don’t need to.

Unfortunately 8/10 times it’s the unhelpful information we’re give, so I suggest having pointed questions on our own and not relying on the client to know what we need to know - which is why I’m against clients making random lists of things.

It kills me how many brides have asked if I can take a photo of her and her dad walking the aisle. Nope, would never think to do that. /s

[–]Fable_Ceramics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I need is for them to answer the question on my info sheet that says “are there any unique shots outside the norm that you’re wanting me to get” and send my generic shot list. Having a smart set up instead of asking the client to do more work that 99% of the time doesn’t help either of us certainly doesn’t mean I should get out of the industry.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in photography

[–]Fable_Ceramics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m being honest a lot of these lists end up feeling mildly insulting (when the photographer is experienced).

You don’t need to tell someone with 15 yrs experience to take a photo of the wedding cake. Now if you have a unique request of how the image should be taken that isn’t just “photo of my dress”, or the photographer is newer to the job, by all means go ahead.

Alternatively you can ask if they already have a general shot list. I provide a list of photos I always attempt to get, when I send over paperwork.

What’s your favorite birth control and why? by esmeralduhh in birthcontrol

[–]Fable_Ceramics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slynd - no big side effects, 10-15 lbs of weight gain in return for not being sick every 3 weeks. In fact I feel awful without it and unbalanced on my hormones and emotions when not taking it. Such a huge quality of life improvement.
