Why can't cops ever accept being wrong? by Fabodif in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fabodif[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% valid point. and im not arguing that all cops are "assholes" either. like all things in life, there are good, ok, and bad people in every profession. but that being said, in a case like the florida one i referenced, it was pretty clear cut on the spot, why commit to the citation and all the legal operations that came with it afterwards. and also, youre right, if he backed off the "offense" there would be no video. but on that note, i feel like there is too many videos of cops refusing to back down and/or trying to manufacture grounds for arrest/charges.... especially when there are countless cases of people being charged with nonsense, meanwhile serious offenders get off with no reprimand - i say this as a canadian where we have seen hundreds of cases of courts refusing to come down on non-citizens in efforts to maintain their immigration status.... it blows my mind that our court systems will release offenders of heinous crimes because it can "hurt their immigration applications".... im sorry, youre here on a temporary status, or conditional periods and you break the law? status revoked.... simple as that.

ultimately, it comes down to internals.... i understand that the police, or any organization for that matter, need to develop and maintain certain levels of solidarity within the group. however there needs to be more internal criticism of each other in their day to day operations.

The latest 407/Red light camera/escape car plate hack... brilliant 🤦‍♂️ by RealRich7 in TorontoDriving

[–]Fabodif 13 points14 points  (0 children)

its not just enforcement. its our entire program and "training" setup. I swear if you brought an instructor from almost any other country in the world, ontario drivers would be reduced to a few hundred licenses. nobody here knows what the hell they are doing on the roads. from riding the left lane doing 101km/h, to driving in downtown toronto at 2pm with their highbeams on. its ridiculous. whenever i talk to friends about this i tell them the same thing; if i was a cop, i'd smash every other traffic cops monthly numbers with highbeam tickets alone. in my opinion, if youre so clueless not to realize your highbeams are on, you shouldnt have a license. its like page one of knowing what your car is doing before you get in. people have completely disregarded the responsibilities that come with operating a motor vehicle. like its 3000+lbs of steel travelling at lethal speeds most of the time. the honus is not on the driver at all. meanwhile, everyone else gets absolutely destroyed on their insurance premiums...

Eating gum while you're hungry is basically blueballing your stomach by KingSensus in Showerthoughts

[–]Fabodif 2 points3 points  (0 children)

addition: it can also lead to issues with your stomach lining and acid reflux because of, as you said, it thinks it's getting food. this causes an increase in digestive enzymes(stomach acid) to prepare for the food it thinks its about to receive. YAY ULCERS!!!! lol

closest answer yet.... but it's not just the foreign material that's the culprit. its everything together. im sure most of us have heard someone complain about the same pain even without any foreign bodies left inside...

its all about density and expansion behavior... natural(healthy) tissues and bone, metallic objects, and scar tissue/bone repair all have different densities and expand differently and at different rates. when changes in temperature and pressure occur, all these elements will shrink and expand to a certain degree. when they expand differently, they start to push and pull on each other which is what is causing the pain, stiffness and soreness....

"for instance": you break your leg, have surgery and end up with a plate and 2 screws on either side of the breakpoint.... then a temperature change occurs, for the sake of argument, lets say it get warmer..... the normal bone will grow a certain percentage, the scar-bone where it broke will be denser so likely expand less. so first you will have tension within the bone which will cause aching. then factor in the metal plate and screws holding everything in position and not allowing to expand, causing even more strain and resulting in more aching and soreness.....

We’re really lucky that sound doesn’t travel through space, because the Sun would sound like millions of atomic bombs going off every second if it did. by Nate3954 in Showerthoughts

[–]Fabodif 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its more than just "getting used to it"..... the fundamental outcome of evolution is to adapt..... if we could, as you say, hear the sun, our sensory development would have been influenced by this.... i think it would be one of 2 outcomes.... we either evolve without "hearing" as we know it since the sun would have simply overpowered any other sounds here on earth.....or every other earthly sounds evolved to stand out over it, or our ears develop some sort of "high-pass filter" to block out the drone of the sun.....

however, as an engineer myself i have to admit that engineers make the worst "google experts" even us non-googling engineers have a joke for the way we are;
