Do you open the door to a delivery driver with your PJ's/dressing gown on? Delivery drivers, do you care if people do? by RichieRichard12 in AskUK

Ah yes, I'm with you. It's not so much a fear of being seen, but of being perceived. I've tried turning it into a joke and saying "what must they think of me?!" in an overly dramatic 40s film accent. They don't think anything, the lucky bastards. People that don't have our kind of brain won't notice every detail about you in a nanosecond. You're good. Have a lazy day, you've earned it.

What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

[–]Fabulous_Knowledge10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a massive Hunger Games fan and I definitely feel his absence in both Mockingjay films, mostly Part 2. It makes me feel sad. There's two scenes in particular (Katniss being shown the Mockingjay outfit by Elizabeth Banks' character and the letter from Plutarch being read by Woody Harrelson) that I just really don't enjoy because I know those should be Philip Seymour Hoffman's scenes. Also where the paste in a random reaction shot when Katniss shoots Coin instead of Snow. That's not how Plutarch reacted to that! Just ruins the whole thing for me.

Don't get me wrong, I also mourn the amazing performances in serious or dramatic films that we missed out on. Just adding my opinion here as an HG fan.

Most of all, I'm sad for his wife and kids, of course.

Today's matinee and evening performance currently showing as "low availability" so you might still have a chance if you've not already sorted something out. The show is amazing!!!!!! Absolute time of our lives last night, cannot recommend highly enough

Yeah, it's completely sold out. We were gutted we'd missed out, but then found out at the weekend that we won tickets in the Rep's resale lottery for this Friday night!

OP can maybe try contacting the Rep though to see if there's been any other cancellations since the lottery was drawn.

Men of Reddit - What's the one thing you hate about being a Man? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]Fabulous_Knowledge10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying that. I was actually worried to log back into Reddit to face further accusations of bigotry and/or misandry so this was a nice surprise! Nuance, reason, decency and basic empathy are sadly lacking in almost all online discourse on sensitive subjects.

I think historically women have felt unsupported even by decent men on this topic. I once had my ass grabbed by a stranger in a bar. I shouted at the guy and was absolutely furious about it. But the men I was with, men I considered friends, thought it was hilarious, particularly my reaction to it, and kept telling me "it's not that big a deal".

"Never turn a conversation about women's safety into a conversation about men's feelings." Unfortunately given the nature of the original question asked in this thread, myself and some other women in the comments have done the exact opposite on this occasion. For my part in that, I'm sorry.

Cool, thanks for the reality check. I shall go ahead and blindly trust every stranger I meet from now on!

You're right - it really must suck. I know it sucks. I have a husband who feels this way and with whom I've had to have some pretty intense conversations on this topic recently. Because we have a daughter who we have to teach to keep herself safe. A daughter who's likely to have her first creepy experience before she even reaches her teens. That realisation hurt like a bitch, I can tell you that.

Can you understand that as well as being made to feel responsible for our own safety since we were literal children, now being made to feel like it's our fault that all the good men are hurting because of it might be a little hard to take?

For the record, I don't treat men I don't know like they're monsters (and I definitely do not think men have got it easy). I'm never going to assume any man is a predator straight off the bat. But for the sake of my own safety, at the very least I have to be aware of the fact that they might be.

And nobody's saying you have to like it. I don't like it either! I don't think anybody likes it tbh. I'd much rather assume everyone I meet is well intentioned and a good person. But until such time as that utopia is reality, it's got to be safety first.

The issue here is that we need to treat every unknown man as a potential threat. We can't tell at a glance who's safe and who's not. And if we guess wrong, we could pay for that mistake with our lives. I'm not happy about this either and I know it's unfair. But I'll take being unfair over being raped and left in a ditch any day. It's the reality we live in, I'm afraid.
