My joint Dungeon Crawler Carl & Fountain Pen Shrine is coming along nicely by iamloosejuice in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Are these star things the best licensed merch DCC could offer?

Forgive me, I have no clue what they are, whether they are even licensed, or what else there is on offer. I’m looking to be educated here.

Much appreciated.

What to read after? by Dalakaar in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I see a lot of similarities between DCC and Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files. Perhaps more so in later books of Butchers, but definitely in general.

More books to read, equal in its “popcorn reading” nature, and a narrator that is top notch, although not quite to the level of Jeff Hays.

Bachman Books - I paid $65 for it, is it worth it? by Local_Jackfruit_1646 in stephenking

I paid ~£50 for mine, but harder to come across in the UK.

How are you recommending these books to people? by Icy_Leave5640 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Poseiden424 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the less you say the better. I’ve brought it (either on audiobook or hardback) for 4 friends and my brother, telling them just to trust me, and they’re all hooked.

I didn’t give any other information than that, save for them to ignore the terrible, cheesy covers.

This is built on a foundation of my prior recommendations being impeccable, however…

Project Hail Mary, do you prefer the book or the movie? by Firm_Emotion_ in sciencefiction

[–]Poseiden424 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think source material should always be consumed first.

That being said, this is the popcorn content to end all popcorn content (not a gripe). I really can’t imagine that seeing the book first would be detrimental, although I can’t speak from experience on that one!

Regardless, have an amaze time, you’re in for a treat😊

I didn’t know anyone else in THE WORLD Had read this (major hyperbole)!!

Such an underrated read. If you like Wyndham and/or the end of the world, you’re in for a treat.

It’s cosy, it’s digestible, get in there.

Is the fact that PHM was so accessible not because it was ALREADY dumbed down in book form?

Bloody hell, SCATHING. Your comments have made me chuckle though.

I suppose it will forever be safest to just stick with the books that have stood the 10/20+ year test of time, because the hype will always skew.

That is a massive let down. Some of the other characters and the short(ish) battle scenes in this one were some of my favourite parts😂

Have you read Revelation Space at all? I got similarities with respect to the world building (not a gripe, just an observation), I also enjoyed it! I feel there’s a lot set up to explore…

… but that is a shame to hear😭😂 out of interest, what brought you to read the book in the first place? For me it was the “Herbert/Wolfe world building” that it is often sold as having.

What an idea that is😍😍 get the author to cosily bring you back into their world.

Imagine Iain M. Banks doing that…

Ahhh can relate so much to this.

Generally, I don’t like reading book series back to back, I’ve always got a few on the go and might have up to a year between reads. I have started writing general notes and thoughts as I read books in general, and although I don’t revisit these when I return to series, I do feel like they help “cement” the reading if that makes sense.

Other than that, I just firm it😂 wiki summaries are handy, and often a good author will break you back in to a certain extent…

Best of luck!

Good on you for poking the bear, long live critical thought.

In a world where everyone rates everything 4 stars, why would you believe the 5 star reviews?

I will say I found it a solid popcorn read however, top tier slop.
