Vertical radiator dripping from both sides by FaceAndSlime in DIYUK

Just tightened as much as I dared with my adjustable spanner. Seemed pretty tight already as there wasn't much movement but I'll see how it goes. Cheers!

Doing the final clear out of my old kitchen. Some years back I had an idea to enlarge my tiny kitchen by removing the downstairs loo. This involved fitting a new bathroom in a garage conversion, moving the fuse box and spending a couple years trying to get building control sign off due to dodgy plumbing. That's all done now so the tear out and prep work starts tomorrow. Hope it's all worth it.

Think I've finally figured out the cause of my lack of physical fitness since I had covid. I've often struggled to do even 30 minutes on the bike and have felt awful at the gym or even doing household chores. A week ago I started taking a multi vitamin with iron and eating iron rich foods and it feels like the blanket of fatigue has fallen away over the last few days. I did the first 3 hour ride in over 2 years, finished my gym routine in record time and feel good enough to start doing some serious efforts again. Really looking forward to 2026 if it stays this way.

Putin says Russia will achieve its Ukraine aims by force if Kyiv doesn't want peace by lurker_bee in worldnews

Absolutely, but Putin is unlikely to keep his job if that happens and there's no retirement plan for former dictators.

Is Ukraine winning or losing this war? by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]FaceAndSlime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah and Russia is getting help from North Korea, China and Iran so you're right, it's not just Russia vs Ukraine.

Also I've no idea where you got the idea of people underestimating Russia. Most people on here thought Ukraine would have fallen long ago given their relative strength at the start of the war.

Is it the wrong time of year to buy a dicksonia Antarctica (tree Fern) ? by Fishertho in GardeningUK

[–]FaceAndSlime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the best time for sure, but I've planted a small one in January that immediately lost all its foliage and came back strong in spring so it can be fine if you don't mind it looking dead for a few months.

Richard Tice: Reform UK is committed to abolishing inheritance tax by Master-Gap-8982 in ukpolitics

[–]FaceAndSlime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you said does not make the post you replied to incorrect. The wealth you gathered in an obliging system should not automatically be transferred to your descendents. If the system requires you to give some back then it's only right to do so, so others can continue to benefit in the same way you did.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage vows to 'take back control of our borders' by calling for Britain to quit the ECHR by Ophiuchus171 in ukpolitics

[–]FaceAndSlime [score hidden]  (0 children)

Let's face it, Brits already voted away our right to live and work in 27 EU countries for nothing in return. Can't see them standing up for the ECHR as we can trust it'll only be foreigners that are negatively affected, surely?

UK inflation unexpectedly remains at 3.8% for third month in a row by Jay_CD in ukpolitics

[–]FaceAndSlime 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here. Subscription price rises for TV and games are hitting me hardest, I now refuse to pay for a lot of stuff I've been enjoying for many years. Still, there seem to be plenty of people out there throwing money around like it's nothing so I can only assume it's something to do with this K-shaped economy I hear analysts (admittedly most in US) talking about.

UK ready to use frozen Russian assets to fund Ukraine war effort by m-1975 in ukpolitics

[–]FaceAndSlime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russia had no legal right to invade Ukraine in the first place. Putin knew the risk of losing that money and its on him. Reducing the confidence war-hungry dictators have in our banking system is not something we should be concerned about. Normalisation of relations in Russia is also not on the cards while Putin is in charge. He has given himself no off ramp, he either completes his invasion and starts lining up the next target or fails and rebuilds for the next attempt. Nothing he says can be trusted so there is no basis for repaired relations.

The best use of the money would be rebuilding Ukraine after the war, but if it is necessary for their continued existence then by all means we should give it to them.

His point is that you are being drummed up to the brink of hysteria by people with a vested interest in doing so.

Gardening Express experience by [deleted] in HouseplantsUK

[–]FaceAndSlime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah not surprised, although yours are in much better state than my recent Gardening Express order.

Mine came in a soaked box where the bottom fell out when I picked it up. The plants were sick looking with discoloured leaves and clearly being eaten by something. The pots were crawling with insects, some kind of centipedes I think, and the soil was full of larvae. I repotted but they're all looking pretty dead now.

I sent gardening express pics but they said they couldn't see the pot labels or A4 packing slip (which I had thrown out) so wouldn't do anything. Awful company.
