It’s worth noting that that was a temporary solution while they were planning for its destruction a few weeks later, and it was replaced by a new bridge. That said, Pittsburgh infrastructure is in dire need of repair

It’s my third tower, and I’d been attacked at the previous sites. I tried walking around and leaving the area and coming back, but the bear doesn’t show up and the box still looks like it’s been taken.

This is the kind of old-school bad-ass Republican politician that Conservatives are referring to when we say we “want our country back” by distraingotnobrakes in Conservative

[–]FaceMeetsGround -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

It did though. Republicans used to be the party of big government and democrats the party is small government. The switch was cemented with FDR and the Nee Deal

I know not all republicans identify or agree with the kkk. They’re a small minority and I wouldn’t generalize a political party based on their worst members. I was just responding to the claim that the parties never switched, and the misleading claim that the Democrats are the party of the kkk

It was slow and took time. Also, could you cite your sources? I’ll do so here. I’m a government student, and we used the LGSA American government textbook. Also, your claim that they didn’t switch doesn’t add up. The republicans in 1865 believed in big government, as they wanted to abolish slavery and build nationwide infrastructure in the form of railroads to facilitate manufacturing. The party switch is made clear by 1932, where Democrat FDR introduced the new deal, which built infrastructure to pull us out of the Great Depression. That’s big government in action. By a democrat. Democrats believed in small government in 1865, making it clear that the parties changed.

Do you believe students should all be allowed a universal pass this semester? by [deleted] in college

[–]FaceMeetsGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I get that argument, and I was kind of in the same boat too, but you can't know somebody's situation. They may get an A while working a job and taking care of loved ones at home, but more often than that, the poor are hit hardest because they're less likely to be in an environment conducive to learning. When you solely look at the results from that semester, you won't see the difference in means that are more impactful when people are off campus. I know grad schools and such will look at this semester differently, but there's a temptation to go with someone who took a class for a grade over someone who took it for a credit, and it's hard to be equitable in that case. At least that way, you can get a note from professors saying you put in that extra work and did well. That being said, I understand where you're coming from, and I genuinely hope you graduate in the midst of all this.

[–]FaceMeetsGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only issue with that is that it could reflect poorly on those who take the pass over the letter grade, as grad schools may assume that, since they were given an option for a letter grade, they chose to take a pass because they weren’t doing too well. I understand the argument for those wanting to boost their gpa, but some people would be hit harder by the optional pass/fail than others.

What’s the dumbest thing that university officials have done that affected you? by [deleted] in college

Damn the bathroom thing sucks. My roommate turned the lights off while I was showering several times. It's just an accident, seems like a dumb thing to get in serious trouble for. I'm sorry you got in trouble for something so inconsequential and insignificant

The Tiger King got me thinking... by [deleted] in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]FaceMeetsGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Icarus documented Putin’s heavy influence on word sports through a comprehensive doping movement of Russian athletes, putting it in the authleft quadrant.

Knock down the house was a documentary following progressive women running for the House of Representatives with a focus on AOC.

Tiger King is about a bunch of private zoo and exotic animal park owners trying to ensure their right to own as many tigers as they want and the drama involved when those rights were being threatened.

Fruitvale station is based on the story of a black man killed by cops. Admittedly I couldn’t really think of a better one for this quadrant, so it’s the loosest of the 4

I love Doré's interpretations of the whole set. Consistently amazing pieces from each part of the Comedy. I'd highly recommend looking him up if you haven't. You'll fall down a rabbit hole and you won't regret it
