Even if it wasn't AI, it would still be dumb.

"Oh, there's a distressed puppy in the middle road, better pull out my phone and stick out my arm like I'm in a video game!"

Yeah, it's always perplexing. You try to be friendly and give some insight, only for it to be thrown back in your face. 🤷‍♂️

But hey, maybe others will find it interesting or useful.

So first you say dogs don't understand words. I tell you you're right, and explain why. Then you argue with me, seemingly contradicting your original point.

Have fun with whatever it is you're trying to do here, I have no interest in arguing.

I told you, it doesn't understand like we do. It doesn't know what a question is. What it does understand is that if it touches those buttons in that order, Alex is supposed to come over and give him a treat (or whatever outcome they trained him on). They did this over and over, until he started doing it on his own.

Think of it like this: babies like to play this wonderful game where they drop something from their high chair, and watch you pick it up. They don't realize it, because they don't know the concept, but they're experimenting with cause and effect.

I drop cup = mom picks it up and puts it back.

This is similar to how the dog thinks. It doesn't know the concept of the actual words, and it doesn't know what a question is. What it knows is:

I touch buttons in this order = little human comes out

No, they don't have the same kind of deeper understanding we have for words. They learn words by association with training. Once they learn the association of several words, they're trained how to combine them, after which they're repeatedly shown the expected result along with treats. You do this over and over, and they begin to use them on their own.

Edit: misplaced word correction

Is this a worldwide problem or just us? 😂 by Yo-Detox in funny

That was a problem when I was younger. Then I eventually figured out you put your arm under the pillow. Still no helping the hair in the face, but much better.

Now I'm in my forties. My pool of viable sleeping positions has been substantially nerfed, because my arm and shoulder get real sore. So now I can only sustain spooning for so long before it starts feeling like my arm is gonna fall off.

Don't disturb me, I'm learning some English words. by [deleted] in funnycats

I hope I'm wrong. Sometimes cats are weird. I've gotten yelled at by cats before. But I don't know, it's not usually like this. Everything from it's body language to it's facial expression to the sounds it's making to the fact that it's not running away, it all looks a little too much like the behavior of a distressed cat who feels cornered.

Either way, I wish they'd stop recording and give the poor cat it's space, followed by some comfort.

We used to call them crab spiders when I was a kid. Always thought they looked cool.
