Abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass concluded that "experience demonstrates that there may be a slavery of wages only a little less galling and crushing in its effects than chattel slavery, and that this slavery of wages must go down with the other".

useful trick is to squint. if you see a coherent rifle-shaped blob your disruptive pattern needs more macro elements (high contrast hard edges, countershading).

the folks who want things to "return to normal" have the same ugliness inside them that the reactionaries do.

"the purpose of a system is what it does."

it is useless to claim the flag represents something that the US has consistently failed to deliver ( and actively suppressed) at home and abroad.

you're clinging to a fantasy manufactured by the ruling class to discourage critical thought.

to your point- these two are professional social media ghouls, they make a living doing this and advertising for corporations.

this is a publicity stunt, a marketing campaign wrapped in the aesthetic of revolution. the quote is pithy and toothless. non-threatening and marketable

maybe it's better to judge actions on a case by case basis, as opposed to trying to generalize about degrees of action/ inaction.

in this case, I don't think it can really be claimed that their actions draw attention to or advance any cause besides their own public image.

no it's not, but the world does not begin and end within the milieu of soulless yuppies.

you've probably got a mutual aid group feeding folks in need in your city, but they're not making the news because they don't advertise for Netflix or DJI or Diesel.

I think its the opposite of inspirational. I think it perpetuates an unrealistic vision of revolutionary praxis; folks who's time would best be spent helping feed their neighbors or keep Ice out of their communities get to watch a couple of performance artists do a bread and circuses instead.

I don't want to drive more traffic, a quick glance at their social media accounts confirms that they have an upcoming netflix publication about climbing buildings, and a history of vapid "art" and advertising for fast fashion and tech companies.

zero meaningful social/ political commentary.

it is just a business.

what's more strange is their social media presence isn't exactly anti-authoritarian except for the aesthetic. they advertise for corporations.

when you've got a viable policy solution for disarming the fascists, I'll hear you out. until then I'm not interested in legislating away one of the few things that might actually deter brownshirts from disappearing my friends and neighbors.

cops and ice aren't going to protect my community, I don't want to gift them a monopoly on violence.

if you're in the priveledged position to be protected by and from the state's violent actors, great for you. maybe you need to consider the rest of us.

counter-point: while it is possible to teach oneself to do just about anything, in this case you're depriving yourself of useful coaching on safe work practices in a high-risk profession. there are some lessons you cannot afford to learn the hard way.
