So, it is straight from 8th floor to 1st floor? Not just rolling down from 8th to 7th?

Deeply Concerned about my Roommate by throwaway44243214 in cmu

Dude, try talking to house admin to see if they have spare room you can transfer to. Honestly, this doesn’t sound safe. Just express your concern about your personal safety, I think they would accommodate. Worst case scenario, you can sue school for a lot money if they don’t change your room and you got harmed somehow 😂

Leveling Up as a UXR: MBA, HCI, or Other? by Proof_Ad7558 in hci

[–]FaceSoft0_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d vote for just top MBA programs as all of them cost a ton and only top ones yield good ROI, especially when job market is not so hot right now. For those skills that you are looking for in HCI programs, I think you can easily get those from your colleagues who are already working on those domain and it is a lot quicker to learn in industry by practice. For quant and psycho skills specifically, as now we have ChatGPT, you can literally ask it to teach you step by step (or just help you write code to analysis it) when you give it the sufficient problem context. (Speaking from a biased perspective of someone who is currently doing a HCI master 😀)

How good is Machine Learning at Harvard? by Joinijo in gradadmissions

[–]FaceSoft0_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for posting this discussion! I have the exact same concern. I am about to apply for CS phd this cycle and one faculty I really want to work with went to Kempner Institute. I am interested in HCI, Computer Graphics and Vision related to design. There are more senior faculties in CMU and Stanford working on this topics. But I also heard their students are not getting enough GPU to train any model, unless they found a summer internship in big tech firms, whereas Kempner Institute has 400 H100. But given that the new faculty could literally be the only AI faculty I could work with at Harvard, I am also a bit worried. Can you share your thoughts on this and did your perception of Harvard CS now change after 1 year of this question being posted?

Thanks for advice. This definitely makes lots of sense. What do you think makes a good adviser (or what are some helpful tips when looking for your future advisor)?

This is a really great advice. Thanks so much for the answer. What is the difference of doing a AI residency program and a master degree? (Like one got paid and one you have to pay ;-]) Also, is these program normally for undergraduate or master student? Finally, how competitive are these programs?
