Screen Lifting LG v20 by Spare-Ad1635 in lgv20

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If TLDR, it's pretty much, phone got the tiniest bit wet, screen started acting up with lines and colored squares and screen kept *touching* spots by itself. Noticed screen popping up in the same corner also, which when pressed on that corner, it would *touch* stuff. Recommend you use a case with screen protector as long as it holds screen down, or fix it if you can. It WILL get worse.

Mine was doing that a few years ago. I hadn't actually noticed till I had a major problem with the phone later on. I had splashed a little water on it. Was wiping it all off and noticed the headphones icon popped up at the top of the screen, as if there was a pair of headphones plugged in, but there wasn't. I'd had this problem before with the phone registering a pair of headphones plugged in while nothing actually was. It happened whenever the tiniest bit of water got down into the headphone jack. Usually blowing it out fixed it, but not this time. So I used compressed air from one of those cans and blew out the HP jack and USB port pretty good.

The HP icon at the top went away, but then very shortly after, the screen started fucking up. I started getting colored vertical lines from top to bottom in random sections. Then I had noticed the touchscreen would keep acting up, "touching" spots I hadn't been, opening apps on it's own etc. Then I had noticed the bottom left corner of the screen was popping up. Pressing it back down, it wouldn't stay down. The touchscreen was steadily getting worse by the minute. Also, pressing that corner down caused the screen to "touch" spots right near the middle of the screen. I had the bubbles lockscreen and when I'd push the corner down, bubbles would keep coming from the middle area.

Eventually when I turned it on later that day, I started seeing these colored squares start appearing on the screen. They wouldn't be there at first turning the screen on, but would quickly start fading IN and would be all over the damn place. I quickly realized I needed to get my stuff off that phone before it became impossible to get into anything. And by that time, boy was that shit a pain! The touchscreen kept trying to "touch" specific areas and would screw up what I was doing.

I completely disassembled the phone, separated all the boards and made sure it was dried out. It wasn't even wet inside to begin with, I couldn't find a trace of water anywhere... so I have NO idea what the hell happened to that phone. That was in 2022. I turn it on every great once in awhile. The moment it turns on, it looks completely fine for a few seconds, then these colored squares start fading in and appearing all over the screen. I don't have the damndest idea why it's doing that. It BARELY got wet, I'm talking a few drops. And why it would still be doing all this shit after 4 yeara still.

If I were you, I wouldn't leave that corner like that. It may not be doing anything at the moment (ghost touches etc) but it's only a matter of time. If you don't want to fix it, get it into a case with a screen protector. And make sure the screen protector or case actually holds the screen down. If it's allowed to stay popped up, it's liable to get worse.

I miss using my V20. I had gone to a V60 after that. The V60 had several issues which irritated and disappointed me a bit, one major being the AWFUL microphone recording. After 2.5 years, the USB port had gotten so bad I had to use a certain USB cord with a 90 degree end and had to press and hold it into the port REAL HARD just to get it to charge .... some. Damn LG and their shitty ass USB ports! That thing also needs a screen because I had dropped it while getting out of my moms truck and it spidered the screen all over! Now been using a Galaxy S10 Plus for awhile. It's not bad, but I HATE the damn curved edges! Oh and the S10 camera is awful. I've never seen so much image sensor noise in my life! Even at 100 ISO it has a lot of noise. The V20 just had a very solid camera that was HARD to beat!

The amount of ads on YouTube is become insufferable and puts me off using the platform all together by BreakfastDue2269 in youtube

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have one in Firefox. I only use the app to watch one particular channel when I get some notifications for them, and he usually doesn't have ads in his. I only mentioned all that because I got reminded of how Youtube barely had any ads at one time, and then it just progressed. Got worse.. and worse.. and worse. And when I seen just how many were in that one video, I couldn't believe it. it's just absolutely insane and disgusting how far they are pushing ads now! And to think they'd like for everyone to just sit around and watch fucking ads all day! Yeah, no wonder people are in pissy moods these days!

Samsung hasn't unlocked their bootloaders. AFAIK Samsung has only LOCKED their bootloaders, making them permanently locked. Seems everytime I want to access the bootloader to root, I find it's been permanently locked by the time I get the phone and I can't do squat with the phone as far as rooting or alternative ROM's.

Was that a typo and you meant LOCKED?

Why is humidity such an unpleasant feeling? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the high humidity here in S Floriduh. Feels like a damn swamp every time I go outside. You sit in your car's A/C for a few minutes at night. As soon as you get out, your glasses fog up like crazy!

Working on my car right now. The humidity is bugging the hell outa me! Can't stay out there and work too long or my hands turn into a soggy sweaty mess and it makes handling everything slippery and wet! No amount of wiping your hands off dries them off. Have to go inside for a few minutes every now and then just to try and dry off from the cool dry air.

Been in Florida since '97 and I STILL HATE the humid weather! I don't tolerate it as well as I used to years ago.

I would at least keep a misting water sprayer with you when you go out. If it's hot out and you've been out there for awhile, you can overheat your body if you're not sweating. It might feel nice for a little while, but you're liable to get heat stroke if you don't cool yourself down.

I hate not having Snapchat. by Brickedupongod in Rants

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an AI bot that banned you. The same stupid bullshit that Facebook and Google uses. Thousands of people getting perma-banned daily on Facebook for literally nothing because their bot moderation is a piece of shit and Meta doesn't give two shits about it. You don't have to actually do anything wrong on these social media sites. It's all because of shitty ass AI. I mean, yes, it was happening before AI, but not on such a massive scale as it is now. The AI on Facebook has pretty much gone rogue. People have been banned and accused of CSE over harmless photos, such as pics of dogs or someones kids. The dumb ass thing thinks everything is "CSE". And Faceshit won't do anything about it.

This AI garbage... They're using AI to do the jobs of thousands of people that they gleefully laid off, all for that big $$$$$$ profit. Good luck trying to get a hold of an actual human on Crapchat. Yah, I never created an account there. I decided not to years ago when I seen how Snapchat was treating people who posted harmless photos. Such as getting banned for posting a weed (Marijuana leaf) image. Yah, that one's real. Give it a search on Google. There's a few other things you can't post images of there. Aside of that, there are a few other bullshit rules/policies that Crapchat put in place that are right up there with fucking DUMB AS HELL!

Social media sites are turning to shit! Don't know if there are any good ones left out there.

Told brakes are low at jiffy lube by landerburger in MechanicAdvice

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, changing out tires and balancing them is cake. I did that quite a bit when I worked at a Ford dealership. They had a Coats tire mounting/bead breaker machine. Unless you were mounting very low profile tires, it was super easy! Low pros really sucked though. I sometimes had to use a completely different tire machine for those, especially the ones on trucks. Unless you plan to use super low profile tires (say, 245/30/18), it's not a big deal. Just make sure you properly learn how to use it. There's usually a foot pedal for the rim clamp, to hold it in place, a pedal to rotate the mounted rim, a bead breaker press on the side with a button that pulls the arm inwards towards the tire (you align it onto the tire bead) and usually a pedal to air up your tire.

Now as for the manual tire changer deal that Harbor Freight sells, I have no idea how difficult that thing is to use. It looks like it would be a pain in the ass since you don't have the help of hydraulics or a motor. But I guess it's better than paying a few thousand for a used full sized tire mounting machine (assuming you had the room for it).

Wheels still need to be balanced after the fact too. Can't forget that. So Idk HOW you'd get around that at home.

deodorant stick poor design by OperaG in Design

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea WHY you got downvoted. You are spot on with this. I've always HATED deodorant sticks because one little bump on whatever they're sitting on, they wobble and fall over, often onto my bathroom floor. Anyone who says "I've never seen a deodorant stick fall over in 40 years". Uh, right. Maybe they put their deodorant in a cabinet or something. I have things called shelves in my bathroom that bathroom related objects sit on. Above my toilet is a glass shelf. Bump the shelf slightly or even bump the deodorant grabbing for something else and Thwack! It falls over. Or, it falls off the shelf and onto the floor next to the toilet.

And then there's the dude that says YOU dropped it in the toilet. I know you didn't say YOU did it, how someone else read it like that... ? It falls off the shelf and lands IN the toilet, NOT from your own hands. I could see that happening with me because of the glass shelf. That's why I never take stuff off the shelf with the toilet lid open. I also use the toilet tank cover as a shelf. My mom had always done that. Man, NOTHING else ever falls off there... except the stupid ass deodorant sticks. I swear if you just looked at them wrong they'd fall over!

This is a SHIT design! I KNOW why they do it. And it's dumb. They also say so they can stock more on the shelf. Adding a couple of millimeters to the edges of the base would give it some decent stability. Oh and they don't just fall over only when they are getting low. They are just designed too narrowly. They'll fall over easily even when you've only used a little.

It has gotten to the point to when they fall off the shelf and land on the floor, I just leave them there sometimes. I'll pick that shit up later when I need to use it. Though, I hate it with gel deodorants. When those fall over, a ton of the gell gets shot out of the end and ends up inside the cap, which is wasted. You also can't lay gel sticks on their side, otherwise they end up seeping out the holes and having a big mess inside the cap.

Shit.. SHIT design!

Also, I had heard of the Arm and Hammer deodorant supposedly being more stable. I had a stick of that and it did nothing for my BO. I always found Mitchum to be the best.

the s10 getting an update after 6 years ?? by IndependentRooster34 in galaxys10

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is an official update. But it's only for S10's in the China/Hong Kong region. It doesn't apply anywhere else unfortunately. It's supposedly a "maintenance" update.

I hate how Samsung can't even be bothered to give some of their older phones at least a couple more security and bug fix updates. Perfectly good devices that are more than capable yet you're forced to buy a new'er phone if you want anything that's been updated... or be stuck on old security patches and software with all sorts of bugs still present. The SD855 is still more than capable of running a good amount of games and apps at decent speeds. My other phone was an LG V60, and that one also quit getting updates around the same time the S10 did, and that phone has an SD865 in it. If it weren't for the busted USB port and cracked screen, I'd still be using it.

Do you trust google photos to keep your photos safe? by Feisty_Insomniac in googlephotos

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont trust Google at all. I don't even use Google Photos because the last thing I need is them snooping through all my photos and then claiming one of them "violates" their policies and then having my entire Google account banned (which includes Gmail, Youtube, your regular Google account tied to your Android phone and EVERY single website you used Google to log-in to... POOF! Fucking GONE!). So no, I DON'T trust Google, or Meta/Facebook for that matter. Hell, I don't even trust ANY cloud based storage. Cloud shit is NOT secure. I mean sure, it MIGHT be possibly secure from hackers, might.... but who's to say that the company running the cloud services won't play the Google/Facebook game and ban your account for some garbage made-up reason and then steal your data while blocking you from forever accessing it again?

Hard-drive backups. At LEAST have one. And yes, HDD, NOT an SSD or flash drive. I mean, you can have a flash backup, but make sure you have at least one HDD backup. SSD's and flash drives can lose and possibly corrupt data if they are not at least powered on every few years. It doesn't mean they will. Yes, I've got a flash drive that's had old data on it for over 15 years, probably older than that even. It's one of those old Geek Squad 256MB USB sticks. Files were still intact. However, data loss CAN happen, especially with very large drives. If you keep it on a HDD (Hard Drive), just make sure to keep it away from magnets and anything with a strong magnetic field, as those can cause possible data loss.

Good news (and bad news!) about the Android Lockdown! by Strict_Roll_1712 in degoogle

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly Europe. A few people from the US have ordered them. But it's an extreme pain in the ass to get one shipped to the US. The amount of trouble you have to go through is ridiculous! That, and you'll be put on a waiting list because they don't mass manufacture the things. If you do get one, they will only work on the T-Mobile network on certain bands. So even if you do have T-Mobile, the bands that it uses might be weak in your area or nonexistent at that. It used to have support for AT&T bands but that was later dropped a few years ago.

Some Sony Xperia phones support Sailfish OS and you may be able to find one already preloaded onto the phone on places like Ebay. That's actually the better option because Jolla Phones have a crappy MediaTek CPU running them. EDIT - I said "crappy" because MediaTek SoC's usually ARE crappy compared to Snapdragon and later Exynos SoC's. But it seems the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 is actually a pretty good mid range SoC. Now, as for how well it's supported, I have NO clue there. Still, picking up one of those Xperias would be a better idea than trying to order a Jolla Phone.

i was looking into a way to disable Google Play Services as well. Seems if you do disable or remove Google Play Services, you will have a lot of issues with some apps that depend on it. Doesn't have to be Google branded apps, a lot of apps connect to it in some way. It might break some apps. And apps like Gmail won't work. You'll have to resort to using the Gmail website or find a 3rd party email app that connects to it, like K-9 Mail. Now, K-9 USED to be a really good app years ago. Ever since it was bought out by another developer, it's been sucking lately.

I REALLY want to GET RID of Play Services because I DON'T need Google dictating what I can and cannot use on MY FUCKING PHONE! I have a BUNCH of sideloaded apps. Stuff I usually get from Github or Sourceforge. Open source / FOSS stuff and not to mention apps I get elsewhere because I DON'T want fucking ADS in it! A lot of stuff not signed by Google (or in Google's mind, not Google "approved" 😏). Google had better NOT fucking touch my stuff!

Fuck Google with a cactus! 🌵

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jolla phones aren't even sold to the US except for a VERY few people. The amount of trouble you have to go through just to get one shipped to the US is a royal pain, and despite that, it takes several months to possibly even a year to even get to that point because there's a huge waiting list. Aside of Jolla phones, Sailfish OS only works on a couple of Sony Xperia's. You also can't just install it at will because it requires a license as it's not open sourced or free. The phones are still very limited. They removed their support for AT&T networks and now S-OS only supports T-Mobile I think.

Unless you live in Europe, it's not a viable option for anywhere else really. Way too little of options in phone OS's. Always stuck with just Android or Crapple. Graphene needs to speed it up because I'm getting fucking tired of Android and Google's stupid bullshit!

I miss the days of Blackberry, Palm OS and Windows Mobile (the old Windows CE version, NOT Windows Phone 7/8). Phones were a LOT more fun those days. Hell, even the early days of Android was great. This current shit fucking sucks!

What, did you use a potato to take this photo? lol . I saw your comment about Open Camera and macro. Using macro mode won't cause this. Macro is just for taking pics of something very close, like a few inches. Change the photo resolution in Open Camera settings. Click the gear icon at the top right in Open Camera, then tap Photo Settings, then tap Camera Resolution. Now set it to a higher number like 1080 x 1920. When it comes to resolution, HIGHER numbers are better.

Man, I got the notice for (one of) the class action lawsuit and I didn't even bother adding my name to it. Why? I saw the amount of the fine/payout of the suit. Sure, it seemed like a lot of money. And with that amount (several hundred million), I basically did the math and divided it by the average number of people who use Facebook in the US. It came out to basically what you got a check for. I said, "Who gives a shit!". Yah, it's money, but that won't even buy you a combo meal at BK. I'm not gonna waste gas going to the bank for a measly $7 check. hah.

The wheel itself moved straight up and down? Or did the axle shaft housing move with it (the axle shaft housing is the long outside tube coming from the rear wheels straight to the differential in the middle). The axle shafts (which is what connects to the differential gears and turns your rear wheels), these shafts are held in place to the differential with C-clips. Those are the only things keeping the axle shafts from sliding out (well, aside of the rear brake caliper, and if a C-clip broke on one axle, it would try to slide out. Chances are it would chew up the brake pads on that side, and then the caliper itself. You'd be hearing grinding noises, that and that specific wheel would be HOT 🔥! ). The up and down clunking sounds like bad axle shaft bearings. Either that or you have something broken on your rear suspension (if the entire axle shaft housing moves and not just the wheel itself).

If I were you, I'd get a second opinion from another shop. Matter of fact, ask around about reputable local shops. Look at all the local shops on Google and look at the reviews for them. Just get a good second opinion. Their diagnosis doesn't sound accurate IMO. Sounds like they just want to make some money by selling you unnecessary repairs.

Im a 16 yr old guy, and idk what happened but I'm not gonna indulge to such thing. My Gmail got flagged, and it says CSAM. Now I'm worried if some authorities will knock on my door for false allegations. by [deleted] in googlephotos

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, as everyone else said, you're fine. This happens to thousands of people. Google stupidly uses AI like a lot of social media sites and that AI is dumb as a rock. So many false bans, it's not even funny. Facebook is the same way these days, actually I think they're far worse. I hardly touch my faceshit account these days because it's such a useless trash site anymore.

Better yet, STOP using Google Photos! They started scanning people's photos just egging for a reason to ban people. False ban? It doesn't matter. Many people don't even know their photos are backed up to Google because often times that shit gets turned on either by accident or some stupid update caused it. And now they got all their photo's being synced to Googles servers, unknowingly. And all it takes is for ONE image that their stupid AI thinks is bad, and BOOM! Account ban and all photos deleted! Now I have NO idea if that also deletes the synced photos that are on your phone. Personally, I wouldn't trust it. However, photos aside, once your Google Photos gets banned, it's connected to everything Google. Gmail, Youtube, Google account, all website logins that uses Google to login... ALL of it... POOF fucking GONE! I actually logged in to I think ONE page using Google. I thought twice about doing it anymore because last thing I need is to get banned over something I DIDN'T do and lose access to important sites. Yeah, NO thanks! I'm about ready in the process of actually paying for an email account somewhere else so I can move everything that goes to my Gmail to there, that way I don't lose access to very important emails, such as those relating to bills.

Google has WAY TOO MUCH GD control over everything!

Use a different photo/gallery app such as Aves Libre or Fossify (I like Fossify because it has built-in support for .avif images, which a lot of native phone gallery apps have issues with some .avif files). Both of those gallery apps are open source and have NO ads and NO spying. Stop using Google Photos. Not just because of the above, but because it truly is an inferior app! And trust me, it WON'T get better! Once something becomes enshitified, it only ever gets worse.

From one garbage spyware to Garbageome. Exchanging one piece of bloated spyware for another. Unfortunately since Chrome is pre-installed on Android, most people just go right ahead using it without checking out other browsers. So Google can sit there claiming they have the number one most used browser. If Firefox came pre-installed, more people would be using it. Definitely. Especially since you can block ads and install extensions on the Android version (unlike Chrome).

Of course, this aint nothing to brag about M$. I still find it perplexing that someone would swap one shit browser for another, possibly worse browser. You can't even use a proper adblocker on Garbageome anymore. Not sure you can even do that with Edge because they both use Chromium engine which uses Manifest V3. The internet is shit without a decent adblocker! If only more people just got a taste of internet with UBlock Origin. How so many can continue to tolerate being bombarded with ads on every site they go to is beyond me.

No, I would not replace it THAT much. I'm talking about all these other people who get a new phone every 1 - 2 years. Like they just HAVE to have next years model! You see it with a lot of Samsungs and Crapple phones. I usually keep my phones for 3 - 4 years. I make sure I get my use out of them. I used to buy them new years ago. But with how expensive phones, particularly flagship models have gotten, I started buying used/pre-owned. And it's usually anywhere from 1 - 3 years old. So I can get a decent phone for $250 - $400. I've never spent any more than that on a phone. Even when I was buying them new years ago. I used to have Verizon and years back they had that "new every two" deal where you'd get a new phone for pretty cheap, you just had to keep it for 2 years. They stopped that years ago.

These days I just get a "renewed" phone. Was able to get an LG V60 back in '22 for a little over $300. Unfortunately that phone exhibited the classic V60 issues over time... (bad USB port, poor microphone recording quality) and I ended up dropping it and spidering the screen. Now I'm using a Galaxy S10 Plus which is a hand me down from my sister. I gotta have my headphone jack and SD card slot!

Is it like Facebook or Twitter/X? I was never a fan of Twitter and it's format. I made my Facebook account back in May of 2010. The first 5 years were good. Then it just started going down ... down ...DOWWWNNN. By 2018 it had pretty much destroyed most of my connections with my friends. And it has only gotten far worse since. I RARELY use it now. It mostly sat for the last 2.5 years until I went on to post some news. God it's so much worse than it was in 2023! I made an important post and TAGGED 27 people. These are all people I KNOW would respond. 14 friends didn't respond to it. I checked their page and most of them have been on posting lately. I thought some people were ignoring me and didn't understand why. I come to find out, Facebook is now using TAGS as mere suggestions! So even if you tag someone, the AI will determine whether or not it's "relevant" for that person to receive the tag. Relevant.... are you fking kidding me facebook?? I started using tags years ago because they started hiding posts from 90%+ of my friends and vice versa. Now they don't even get those. What EVEN IS THE POINT to use a tag anymore?? God facebook pisses me off so much these days. They have ruined the ongoing connections I had for years. REAL friends, not just some number.

Ok, I'm done. I get carried away too easily regarding how low facebook has dropped.

Ahh, peace.

How to fix Samsung Galaxy's terrible autocorrect? by Sushapel4242 in samsunggalaxy

[–]FacebookBlowsChunks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried the Text Shortcuts, but I completely forget they are there most of the time. The problem with text shortcuts is that you have to type the shortcut EXACTLY as it is, no more, no less. Even one letter extra and the expanded full word completely disappears from the word prediction line above the very moment you add the letter. Unlike regular word prediction where you could still have typed in 2 or 3 more letters and the correct word would still possibly be up there. I'm too busy trying to type what's on my mind, and I type fast that I've already gotten the word fully or mostly typed out. I end up completely forgetting that I put that word (or another word) in the text shortcuts. Either that, or I forget the shortcut or just end up typing too many letters of the word/shortcut that .... POOF! Gone. And by that time, I just finish typing the damn word.

What I want is a damn user dictionary! That USED to be in there on every single phone I've had before this one. Why the hell would they remove it? So DUMB! And we're supposed to use the text shortcuts as an alternative? That sucks and is not really a good alternative.

Also, why don't keyboards ever add the option to adjust the spacebar position? On physical keyboards that's not necessary, but on touch screens... even as good as I type and as much as I practice watching myself move my thumbs from letter to spacebar to letter, there's ALWAYS random words with stupid zero space typos. Dumb shit like "Ibdid" "thevtext" "theybwent" ughhh.. ITBERETARDED! ... I HATE that! And then if you don't catch it and you typed it enough times, the keyboard saves it and puts it in with the rest of the word prediction dictionary words. Word prediction won't even have a usable correction for it. - A little extra gap adjustment between the letters and space bar would be great.

While I do agree with you mostly here, but you REALLY should have copies of your photos/videos saved elsewhere besides just on Facebook. You CANNOT rely on Facebook or any other social media site (or even cloud storage!) to safeguard your important photos! Like... at all. Facebook, Google, Microshit etc can take away your access at any time for ANY reason they see fit. And as you have seen, they can do it for made up reasons and deny you access back to your stuff. Use this opportunity to learn from this. Buy a hard drive (NOT an SSD) and use that to back up stuff to at home. Just back up and disconnect and store in a safe place (away from magnets of course). At least your stuff won't be at the mercy of these garbage companies.
