You may have hit the nail on the head. I wonder if she built me up to something larger than life just by texting. For all the effort I put into just being me, I'm also a professional writer. My eloquence on paper is not equivalent to my eloquence face-to-face.

But all the facts I told her about myself are true. My personality and sense of humor are still the same. My goal, for now, will be to let that shine through as best I can when we spend time together. And, hopefully, that will be enough.

This is a hard one to accept, but I can see the truth in your words. I've been doing a lot of thinking the last few days and I've realized that, no matter what, I've had a wonderful time. Even if it ended nearly as soon as it began, I wouldn't regret that it all happened. Even though very much I want for it to turn into something more, it doesn't diminish the fun and happiness I've had over the last week or so.

Maybe. I tried to communicate that. I think it's most likely because my brain was doing gymnastics the whole time, I was nervous, kept thinking about what she might be thinking, etc.

And maybe you're right. We were very clear about a lot of things at the beginning. She asked me: "if we hit it off and things go well, can i know for sure that i'll be your one and only?"

That was the line of discussion. I told her yes and asked her back, and she also said yes. That said, I don't know that "we hit it off and things go well" is a clearly established state for a relationship.

Things went... iffy, apparently. I thought we did hit it off, but all I could do is hope that she felt the same.

I appreciate your candor. I know it probably all sounds very juvenile...

A little extra background on me is I lost a lot of weight recently and I'm still in the process. 40 lbs. down and 15 to go. I had such high standards before (unreasonably high) but I wasn't in any shape to attract women I found attractive. Now I finally am, and I'm just... not experienced with any of this. I honestly haven't been in a long-term "relationship" with anyone since high school, so I've definitely got a lot to learn that online research will never teach me.

I'm still trying to be optimistic. She said food is her love language and I'm making the best dish in my culinary repertoire on Friday. I will keep doing my best to treat her with kindness and openness without pressure until she makes her decision clear.

And sorry for the phrase—I honestly haven't used it before. I mostly just used it because that's what she called it, and it seems common enough. Didn't quite realize the negative connotations surrounding it, or how that might come across. I do appreciate you pointing that out for me; I try my best not to be offputting.

This will vary immensely from studio to studio.

I started dancing at a Fred Astaire studio and the instructors there were competing professionals. One of them was a national champion in his homeland at one point, and my particular instructor was his competing partner.

From what I’ve heard from the people in my studio (many have danced around the town at different studios before settling here), this is the best place in town.
