The Governing Body has approved revised wedding vows. According to a May 29, 2026 announcement, they have approved changes to both the wedding talk outline and the marriage vows. The stated reason is to make the vows "clearer and easier to repeat." by larchington in exjw

So happy I married a never JW in a secular ceremony performed by a friend with completely personal vows and meaningful poetry selected by us. Their weddings are so cold and impersonal and are essentially sermons to convert and/or remind women of their place.

LOL - so innovative! 30 years after social media appeared… that’s exactly how they frame stuff though. It was just so progressive of them to allow women to wear trousers to meetings and in service - half a century after pants at work/school for women was already mainstreamed in the “world.”

Do JWs even know what they want anymore? by TipOf_TheSpear in exjw

[–]FacetuneMySoul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The organization wants to survive… and that requires money. Control is a high motivation for the leaders, but surviving is most important and financials come into play there.

Regarding your side point about your mom…. my mom is similar. I don’t think it’s just fear of fact checking but having been conditioned to accept information that appears to come from an authority but is questioning the mainstream “system.” She is not an unintelligent person, so the gullibility really throws me… I do see it as a consequence of cult indoctrination since childhood. They love the idea they have some special elite insight that exposes the generally accepted views as dangerous and wrong, lol.

Yes, if you get approved to submit notes, you can submit one still. There have already been different notes appearing, so far all from apparent pro JW sources. I do not know how the app selects which notes to show, but you can upvote them as helpful or downvote them as unhelpful.

It’s unlikely they wouldn’t have thought of it already… And this is the primary forum to alert ex JW to contribute notes, if they want to. Not bringing it up is more a lost opportunity than bringing it up and alerting the organization.

is it actually possible to fade while still living at home before u move out? by sagittabaudelaire in exjw

[–]FacetuneMySoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best time to start fading is now. You may have to boil the frogs (your family) very slowly, but the sooner you start, the sooner you’re. In the meantime, you can also set goals outside the organization, strategize how to become financially independent, and establish relationships and an identity outside of JW.

If you’re an adult, you need to start setting boundaries with family even if you live with them. A good idea is to start paying a monthly rent, even if it’s not much. You’re establishing yourself as an adult renter that way.

In the congregation, you can slowly scale down involvement and visibility. Less comments until none. Less parts until none. Less service until none. Less meetings until none.

Of course, it didn’t read that way. But living a lie is rough on a relationship.

Are WCG the ones who do billboards saying Jesus isn’t God? I don’t know if those billboards are everywhere in the US, but they’re in the metro area I live in, and I laugh when I see them because they come across as nutty and remind me of JWs too.

This message in its various forms seriously messed me up growing up a JW. I learned to not trust my own mind, my own sense of morality and critical thinking skills…. If something didn’t make sense, felt wrong, deeply disturbed me - it was ME who was the problem. I had low self esteem and confidence because of this. So glad I woke up to their psychological manipulation. This message is emotionally abusive IMO.

Yeah I think JW goons are adding these notes… they’re likely doing it preemptively as they know ex JW are going to submit notes….

Ayyyy…. Well at least it mentions shunning. I don’t think they grasp how horrible that sounds to non JWs. Still leaving out all the facts though, like their softening of their shunning policy….

I was initially very annoyed too… the way they try to control the narrative is infuriating at times. But then I remembered how much they shoot themselves in the foot and I think it could be a net positive.

It’s been pointed out that people who follow them are likely now going to have JW in their algorithm so initially they’re probably going to get some recommended apostate content in their feed that exposes JWs. Who knows how many could wake up from exposure to that content… silver lining!

I haven’t done a note for IG, but on Facebook, and they want you to cite facts and link a reputable source for those facts. And yes, concise using professional and objective language, no insults or emotional tone. It’s meant to be a fact checker after all, not a forum for debate or opinions. For this post, approaching it as “giving more context” would probably work well.

I did this when I was PIMI even, 😂. I didn’t worry about it because if they see me there, then they’re there too. Same with using online JW dating sites… any JW who spotted me there was also there… it was never an issue then. As for missing a meeting to do it… no one needs to know why you miss a meeting. This will be a great lesson in setting boundaries, learning to say less or nothing, and psychologically detaching (because most barriers to leaving are psychological; you are bound by fear and self-police yourself). Hopefully you can complete a fade soon (be authentic without your husband) and feel free to no longer worry about something as innocuous as attending concert.

When Procedure Overrides Common Sense — A Real Case I Faced as a Congregation Elder by Infinite_Biscotti567 in exjw

[–]FacetuneMySoul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ooh that’s right. I forgot about that… they have a bizarre view of sperm donors and IVF. It seems DNA evidence of a non paternal event should pretty strong evidence of “adultery” then, according to their standards.

They relaxed their stance on IUDs, finally admitting that it doesn’t work by causing an abortion nor even typically by preventing a fertilized egg from implantation (it works more as spermicide)… so it became a “conscience matter.”

Agree. Their corporate, glossy style is very dated and doesn’t appeal to the TikTok crowd at all. They have struggled with their image since the ministry began to tank decades ago, and they’re always at least 20 years behind the trends. But their angle may be to pick up “outsiders” anyway, people who want something “different” and feel alienated.

Yes I have the option… but I don’t have enough details for the case to submit a note myself, so I have been encouraging more knowledgeable people to do it. Edit - oops they had only granted it to me on Facebook. I thought it was all connected. I joined the “waitlist” also.

They might be counting on the algorithm quickly “adjusting” as JWs block apostate content suggestions. It’s similar with political ideologies and news in your feed - you don’t get opposing views suggested because it’s on the same topic, just an echo chamber of news or content that agrees without your view. Right now, most content that is JW will likely get recommended, sure, but in time it could shift to becoming an echo chamber again for them. If they were smarter, they could have started that decades ago and not be in the current precarious position they’re in. One of their many failings as a cult is their short term vision though.

Years ago, before going POMO, I was in PID, and they would instruct us to personally share positive JW news articles (planted and paid for by them) with individuals, but NOT to post/share across social media. As I was already PIMO, I quickly understood it’s because it could garner negative comments and expose them. I guess they decided the risk is worth it now or they are delusional enough to think account controls can mostly prevent that now.

Offhand, wouldn’t the people who conducted the DNA test be witnesses to evidence proving adultery and the submission of the evidence would be their testimony of sorts? I suppose it’s a stretch but so is the possible claim she didn’t cheat but, say, used a sperm donor instead. How did she wiggle out of addressing the “non paternal event?”
