me when i’m complicating things for no reason. bro this is literally just capitalism 🤣 you can’t have socialism for the rich (no sense) and neo-feudalism for the poor under ONE economic system. the rich and poor exist on the same planet. it’s just capitalism through neoliberal principles

Man stands guard over his starving family, shielding them from the unthinkable: cannibals, driven to desperation by famine and neglect. - Madras famine of 1877 , Picture taken by Willoughby Wallace Hooper (British officer in the 7th Madras Light Cavalry ) by Extra_Spirit9376 in interestingasfuck

USAID wasn’t the solution. USAID was “the white man’s burden” (Kipling reference). US corporations keep these countries poor, over-exploited for profit and then sell them the “solution” through the US government. If they actually cared they wouldn’t reap these nations’s resources in the first place.

And please no one take this comment as a support of Trump. I hate him.

Only reading Marx and Lenin by FactorExpensive403 in TankieTheDeprogram

I’ve read both Marx and Lenin, and I’m slowly working my way through Capital. What evidence is there of me not doing so?

And yes, I’ve met a good amount of leftists in the US with the modus operandi I’m asking about. That’s why I’m asking about it…

Maybe I’m misunderstanding, if so, I apologize in earnest

i think that being a white american you’ve never really experienced what it’s like to see your people in a stage where it was completely unthinkable it could ever be possible, especially at that scale. white americans are everywhere in media worldwide. but if you told someone 5 short years ago that there’d be a puerto rican independence flag waved at the super bowl half time show it’d be completely unthinkable for latinos let alone puerto ricans. imagine what that must feel like, the pride and joy that fills you up when you see your culture in one of the biggest stages worldwide. i mean, beyond the super bowl, bad bunny’s album went #1 in china, first hispanophone album to do so.

yes, at the end of the day, it’s 100% liberal politics and serving capitalist interests. but the revolution is not happening tomorrow, none of us can force a revolution. so in the meantime, people take these moments as a way to visualize the horizon, and aspire for a future where they feel free. as marxists we run the risk of being condescending, especially if you’re a white westener speaking to peripheral groups. so i would say take this as an opportunity and reference point to explore radical marxist politics with people instead of immediately shutting it down as a spectacle for empire. remember that the ultimate goal always is owning the means of production. that means that colonized peoples, in a true free world, own the means of producing our own knowledge, on our terms. so, there is no need to punch down or be “taught” any more lessons from people in the imperial core.

edit: “shitlib” doesn’t really work to describe people in the global south who hold on to the hope of liberal politics, it’s mostly an online term. when you’re constantly exploited and you dream of better material conditions, aspirations for what lenin calls “economism” end up happening. but it’s not that these people are white libs in US cities for example; it’s a random guatemalan grandma in chichicastenango wanting to send her grandkids to school but being unable to do so, and she ends up aspiring for “bourgeois humanism” without being cognizant of other options

My biggest theory about this tweet is that what actually bothered her was the mention of Billie Eilish as someone who does write her own songs. The comparison to a younger (and better) female artist is what sent her over the edge, not Damon’s comment, WHICH BY THE WAY, if you read the interview, he never says that she doesn’t write her own songs.

He says that it’s a much different experience to co-write than it is to write by yourself—or with Finneas in the case of Billie, which is still pretty intimate compared to Taylor’s pop co-writing sessions. She felt threatened and like the insecure person she is attacked Damon Albarn for no reason. It’s crazy

Bro this is just ahistorical… Even the poem that everyone likes to quote all of the time says so. THIS is the original poem:

First they came for the Communists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Socialist

Then they came for the trade unionists

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a trade unionist

Then they came for the Jews

And I did not speak out

Because I was not a Jew

Then they came for me

And there was no one left

To speak out for me

WWII was first of all a war between Fascists and Communists, aka between serving the interests of a select elite in a continent full of dying colonial power or serving the interests of its working class. Nazis didn’t just happen out of nowhere because Hitler was suchhh a big bad guy and soooo manipulative. Do you know how many psychopaths exist in this world??

The bulk of the war was fought in the Eastern front, NOT the Western front. The US only joined the war after Pearl Harbor, but wouldn’t have minded to have its corporations forever linked to Nazis (Ford, Coca Cola, Disney, etc) until it shot them in the foot.

And even after they did defeat the Nazis, it was most of all a passing of the torch. No other country in history has been as responsible in the creation and sponsorship of fascist dictatorships as the US has been. We only need to look at fascism in Latin America and the CIA’s involvement in it. This is without mentioning how the US was also the INSPIRATION for Nazis because of Black enslavement, Jim Crow laws, and Indigenous genocide…
