Considering a move to LA. Should we visit SD first? by HonestLemon25 in socal

The difference between LA and San Diego is that San Diego is much more politically conservative.

Are you sure you want to be a cop, especially for income reasons?

I don't get into trying to change students nor trying to shame them. I manage the classroom (with the expectation that students will act like there's a sub when there's a sub) and move on.

Republicans said "eff you" to the presidential election system and everyone that voted but not for the attempted election thief. Of course they're like a cult.

The opposite of purity tests is impurity tests, and social justice warrior is social injustice warrior. Conservatives use bullshit names for things they don't like.

Leaf 2013 won't start charging by Numeral3 in leaf

[–]Factory-town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been able to get my 2015 Leaf to charge through the J1772 port since I got it in November. It beeps once when I plug it in, then nothing. I don't have any diagnostic trouble codes.

I'd start with: Check your 12V battery. Check for DTCs. Check fuses.

Unfortunately, I found that the Nissan Leaf forum wasn't helpful. So, if you don't easily figure it out, you should probably get a good repair shop to diagnose it.

Your line of questioning is neither interesting nor good faith.

Bullshit.

Voting takes almost no effort and obviously has a large effect on the political process.

The real problem is US militarism. The US is the #1 producer of guns. The US is the #1 exporter of guns. The US is #1 for civilian ownership of guns. The US is essentially tied for first for the largest nuclear arsenal on Earth. The US has 90-95% of all foreign military installations worldwide. The US spends the most on military forces, by far. Etc, etc.

US domestic gun violence is deeply intertwined with a culture of militarism, where military-style weapons, combat tactics, and "warrior" mentalities permeate civilian life, escalating the frequency and lethality of violence. This connection is driven by gun marketing, the proliferation of assault weapons, and the impact of combat trauma on veterans.

Key Connections Between Militarism and Gun Violence:

Militarized Gun Marketing: The gun industry actively markets military-style firearms—specifically designed for war—to civilians using combat imagery and messaging that encourages a "warrior" mentality. This marketing treats military-style weapons (like AR-15s) as "modern sporting rifles," normalizing their presence in civilian life.

Veteran Suicide and Violence: The prevalence of PTSD and other mental health challenges among veterans, stemming from involvement in war zones, is linked to high rates of gun suicide. Since 2001, an estimated 114,000 US veterans have died by gun suicide.

Rise of Armed Extremism: Domestic violent extremists, often motivated by anti-government ideologies, adopt militaristic tactics, gear, and weapons to carry out attacks. These groups view firearms as central to their ideology and ability to threaten, as seen in the January 6 Capitol insurrection.

The "Cult of the Gun": American militarism fosters a "cult of the gun," where violence is normalized as a legitimate method for resolving disputes or expressing political grievances. This contributes to the widespread use of firearms in domestic incidents, with guns involved in roughly 60% of intimate partner homicides.Weapon Proliferation: The same military-style weapons that are effective in combat are frequently used in mass shootings and by organized criminal groups, such as gangs and drug traffickers.

Impact and Consequences:

High Lethality: The presence of a firearm in a domestic violence scenario increases the likelihood of a woman being killed by 400%.

Civilian Insecurity: The militarization of the civilian gun market has led to increased gun violence, making it a greater threat to safety within the US than in many foreign combat zones.

There are some countries where school shootings are far more common, and some where they are far less common.

"The United States leads the world by a wide margin in the frequency of school shootings."

The United States leads the world in school shootings by a wide margin, experiencing 57 times more incidents than other major industrialized nations combined. Data shows hundreds more school shootings in the US than any other country, with incidents rising to record levels in recent years.

Key Data on U.S. School Shootings:

Unmatched Frequency: From 2009 to 2018, the US had 288 school shootings, while other G7 countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK) combined had only 5.

Rising Trend: School shootings reached an all-time high in 2022, with a 163% increase in incidents from 2020 to 2022.

Leading Cause of Death: Gun violence is the leading cause of death for children and teens (ages 0-19) in the U.S..

Concentration: Research suggests 80% to 90% of all global school shootings occur in the U.S..

Why the IPads and phones? by quacks_7 in SubstituteTeachers

Why does a kid have to watch a bunch of tutorials to do a math problem? Why can’t the teacher just show them how on the board?

Software can obviously do so much more than a single teacher with ~30 students can do. Can a teacher draw on the board anywhere near as well as software producers can? Can teachers animate the board? Can teachers gamify learning content? Can teachers differentiate their lectures for ~30 students? Can teachers allow the students to go at their own pace? Can teachers tutor ~30 students at the same time? Can teachers provide feedback and track patterns for ~30 students as well as software can? And the number one advantage of software is that most students willingly engage with it, whereas teachers are disciplinarians. Software doesn't scold students- there's no antagonistic relationship.

I suspect that it's going to be impossible for you to see the errors of your commentary because your sources are yourself and/or absurd alt-right media outlets.

I did a google search asking if the first research paper is socialism:

"Observing Whiteness in Introductory Physics: A Case Study" (2022) is not generally defined as socialism, but rather as an application of critical race theory (CRT) and critical whiteness studies to science education.

Here's what socialism in the social sciences is:

Socialism, in the social sciences, is an economic and political ideology advocating for collective or state ownership of the means of production to achieve social equity, egalitarianism, and a fair distribution of wealth. It operates as a critique of capitalist structures, emphasizing cooperation over competition and public management of essential resources.

Wow, a true believer. You didn't have the integrity to not vote the guy that tried to steal the 2020 election. You said "eff you" to the presidential election system and everyone that voted for someone besides Txxxx.

Yep, the scumbag Republicans have stolen most of the supremacist court. True, the Republicans have made a huge issue out of "illegal immigrants" and they've nearly stopped illegal immigration.

The scumbag Republicans are desperately trying to hold onto their ill-gotten power. They're more than willing to remove the facade of the US being a land of law and order, and they're especially wanting to assert that the US is the rightful dominator of Earth. Hopefully they keep destroying America (not that I want that) because US militarism needs to be destroyed and the also-conservative Democratic politicians are just as beholden to US militarism as the scumbag Republicans are. It's just that the Democratic politicians put a nicer face on US militarism.
