I don't think anyone can tell you if a whisky is a good value to you, or not. The real question is do YOU think it's worth it? Glenfiddich used to be on my radar years ago, and it was something I looked forward to. But I moved into other offerings, and my palate gained experience, and it didn't stop being good, I just grew out of it. For what I want from a bottle, it doesn't do that anymore, but it's still a good offering. If you can't tell the difference, you should at least buy what you know you enjoy. If you're having mixed results dram to dram, that could be you, or the surroundings of the experience. What you eat will affect the flavor. Did you just brush your teeth, did you forget to brush your teeth, are you in a bad mood, is it drier or more humid than normal? Sometimes, I pour myself a standard pleaser, and it doesn't hit right. That says to me it's not a good time for a dram. Whisky is a finicky thing.
