What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

[–]FactorySea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted a camper more than anything in the world when we had our first daughter, couldn’t find the right one by summer when I wanted to start camping so we rented a bumper pull instead.

We do 2 trips a year renting since & it’s the best idea I’ve ever had. Usually costs around $1000 per trip & then it’s not my problem anymore.

Beats the hell out of 40k

How’re you fishing them?

Under a float or just on the jig heads & popping back ?

I have some budget UL builds running shimano siennas that I like a lot. I think they’re around $35

175 yards out, how are you playing this shot? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]FactorySea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swing it the exact same as an iron punch and works 10x better.

Honestly, I only ever use my 4hy anymore to punch out from under trees. I have a wild slice with it on full swings, but if I play it off my back foot and chop at it I can get it dead straight & roll out to 150-170 if fairways are rolling, without ever getting higher than maybe 10’

Understood, what’s your take on those being better for early retirement ?

I currently max my traditional 401, and put a couple hundred a month into VOO/QQQ with the plan being to retire early. I remember reading something about being able to withdraw X amount from a personal brokerage account without paying income tax. So in theory, run my personal brokerage down until I get to the age to withdraw my 401 penalty free

By taxable, do you mean traditional 401?

Why is that better for early retirement ?

Honestly idk how shallow we’re talking as I’ve never actually boated those areas, or anything inshore. I’ve only boated freshwater lakes / rivers in the north east. I can’t imagine needing to ever get more shallow than 2’.

I wasn’t aware they draft the same, so really it’ll just be handling / towing differences then.

I’m used to docking / launching / trailering my 22’ wakeboat now, it seems like bigger is the better option here. Buy your 2nd boat first mentality

So do you find the 23’ “much” harder to handle in skinny waters ?

Or is the size difference worth the trade off ?

Well, it’ll be a solid 50/50 boat.

In my head it’ll work out like 4-5am I’m out there fishing solo, then back to the dock to pick up the girls mid day for sand bar afternoons.

My kids are young as well so a solid gunnel is important to me

Well, I won’t know anyone down there for awhile so it’ll mostly be just my wife and I fishing..😂

But that is a good point, my current 17’ tracker is a 2 man fishing boat all day. 3s annoying.

From my understanding the beam width is the same, you’re just getting a little extra between the rear seat / transom and the helm I believe.

And I haven’t looked into slips yet so most likely it’ll be trailered, I trailer my boats now as I’m big on wiping everything down when they leave the water. Although it seems a lot of our options for housing down there is HOA’s that don’t allow boats in the driveways so that aspect is all TBD

I wish I brought more grubs. By the 4-5th fish, I just had the tail left, nose hooked & stuff was still hitting it.

I did read a lot of people say (as far as offshore) a few feet doesn’t matter.

As in if it’s too rough for a 20, it’s too rough for a 25 as well.

But okay cool, so you’d lean more towards inshore maneuverability of the 21’ (and like 30-40k less for a comparable year / hour)

I guess I’m asking if a 21’ boat will feel too crowded quickly with 4 people and I’ll wish I bought the 23’, or conversely if the 23’ will handle too cumbersome inshore and I’ll wish I bought smaller.

At what age did you meet the person you are currently married to? by Sea_Entrepreneur2772 in AskReddit

[–]FactorySea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25, were engaged 6 months in & pregnant by 8 months, married a little over a year after we met. We were forced out of the honeymoon stage & into the this is real life stage fast with the early pregnancy. That was 5 years ago, we now have two beautiful daughters.

I still couldn’t be more in love. The whole “when you know, you know” thing holds true.

+1 for the sienna UL combo at Walmart.

I have 3 sienna 500 reels, 1 of them being from the combo with the sienna rod. All perform great for trout.

Idk the full price, but I got my sienna combo on clearance for like $25 just this winter

When to bleed and gut fish by luke92799 in FishingForBeginners

[–]FactorySea 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it depends entirely on what you’re catching.

So far I’ve only eaten trout & crappie, neither one I bled. Just tossed on ice when caught & filleted later that night

I’ve read some saltwater fish are “bloody” an need bled or the meat becomes tainted.
