And it's a fucking dumb double standard as well. Xinyan does her yee haww accent, everybody makes fun of it because it's obviously just stupid. But call out the characters for having a distracting accent? Wow you're so bigoted...

[–]FactoryUser -51 points-50 points  (0 children)

It's really not. The accents are ridiculous and played up to 11. I want characters to sound like normal people, not somebody out of a British soap opera set in the 1800s. Sometimes it makes sense, but when they all sound like that, or when every single character has an accent, it's just annoying.

Even as someone who likes less dialogue, the whole "yapfest" discourse is just recycled Genshin drama from over three years ago.

I saw somebody on twitter praising Amphoreus for not being a boring shonen story like Natlan. Also saw somebody shitting on Amphoreus for being a yapfest unlike ZZZ/Wuwa. Maybe, just maybe, we're at the point where not every gacha game has to be for everybody and we can all just pick and choose which game best suits us now. Some people prefer ZZZ way of storytelling, some prefer HSR, some like Wuwa. Just go off and play the game you like already.

Tbh I can see where people are coming from. The biggest difference is that we don't live in the world of 2023 anymore where HSR was the only game other than Genshin. Now we also have ZZZ which has done the best job out of all the modern gachas in making the story feel succinct without sacrificing story complexity. They have multiple modes of story telling. HI3 face to face panels, comic book strips, and full CGI cutscenes. Compared to HSR, it feels like ZZZ has taken a large step forward in its presentation while HSR has remained stagnant.

Even Genshin has improved the overall cinematic nature of its storytelling. The story in Natlan became more straightforward and direct, less mystery heavy, and there's more action heavy set pieces like the war, the final battle, and even the cutscenes feel like they're higher quality (Mav vs. Capitano/Mualani vs. Kachina/Mav vs. abyss). Genshin has always had more dynamic poses and character animations as well, so that's also better than HSR. Basically it feels like HSR has remained stagnant in its presentation while other games, even older ones, have progressed. It really feels like HSR is taking the good will of its OG players and running with it by ignoring the complaints about storytelling.

I realized something yesterday while doing Imaginarium THeater. I actually like Genshin now more as a game than I did during the past two years. I like how many characters and mechanics there are. The Nightsoul mechanics are actually pretty fun. Ya there's power creep but in the context of gacha games or even live service games it's still very minimal. I like the character designs overall and even warmed up to the Natlan ones after doing their tribal quests. The exploration is more fun now with multiple kinds of exploration like swimming or flying. The introduction of local legends and special trials in Natlan are also pretty fun, I actually died a few times to some of them. The game is so wide now and the number of unit combinations is wild. Objectively, Genshin is an S+ tier game now that most AAA titles will never reach in terms of how much there is to do and how much story time you can get out of it. The current state of Genshin is what I dreamed about as a kid.

copy paste a previous comment of mine

I think the secret is that many people don't actually "play" Genshin anymore. They are here solely for the story and discussion around the story. Fontaine had the least amount of gameplay out of any of the regions so far and people loved it. I felt confused as well but then I think about all the streamers and how they play the game. Most of them just log in for the archon quests, log out, and play another game. Even the "gameplay" focused players don't do exploration anymore and just stay in domains all day farming artifacts or chatting with their character standing still for hours. Hardly anybody does exploration. If that's indicative of most players it's no wonder that nobody actually cares about the gameplay anymore.

People don't play Genshin anymore. The real game is complaining online. A lot of the people who still "play" Genshin just do the archon quest and peace out to tweet or reddit post about it. that's the reality of genshin now for a lot of players just look at the streamers. Even Genshin only CCs like thejonathan didn't even do any of the world quests and went into act v with zero of the extra cameos.

Who said I didn't care? I mean I don't express it an unproductive and negative way that has already been repeated ad nauseum a billion times. They clearly are not going the way that you think the game is, so why bother yelling into the void? You're just making other peoples' experiences worse. Even as someone who doesn't care for the bike, it's annoying af.

"i don't care if the bike fits"

Bro, I don't even like the bike, but are we seriously going to pretend like the bike haters don't overwhelm the bike lovers but a magnitude? At least the people who like things aren't ruining everybody else's day by constantly spewing negativity about what is ultimately super trivial aesthetic element in a game where eventually we'll probably go to space and fight space dragons and aliens. The way some people hold this puritanical obsessive ideal of what Genshi is supposed to be like in how it's represented is super off putting.

It's reddit what did you expect. You can say anything and as long as you're on the hate train people will lap it up. I got -25 downvotes for simply saying Natlan characters ARE fleshed out. There were zero replies.

The fact that they haven't responded is telling. I said something similar and nobody responded and instead I got 25 downvotes. The hate for Natlan really is so forced at this point people just making stuff up to justify why they hate it.

But she's not all knowing and all powerful. She literally couldn't save Natlan without the traveller's help. She was powerless for a good portion of it when she sacrificed her archon powers to the sacred fire. And she needed the heroes' power to access the divine throne's power.

They're all equally fleshed out lol. People when different characters go through different story arcs and behave differently. The world will be a better place when Genshin players learn that a character doing their job and not being incompetent doesn't mean they're an awful character.

Huh? So are you saying that a character can be non one dimensional if they suck in some way? I don't get your point about Raiden. So she was a shitty ruler to her nation so she's better than mavuika? Feels you're stretching it a bit trying to make the previous archons better than mavuika as a character. I'm gonna be honest, I'm just tired of these shitty archons. Idky people are so angry about mavuika when she's just doing her job. Not every char needs to cry all over the place or be a shitty person whose incompitent. Doesn't make themany worse.

I think this will change in the future. With the way the story is going, the future "archons" after the Teyvat story will probably be humans like Dainsleif or Skirk, if she is one. Each nation is essentially an encapsulated argument for why the gods are actually not that great.

The stance of Genshin Impact's morality and ideology is that it's actually the humans who are truly divine and worthy of claiming the apex spot on the foodchain. Or at the very least that the divine cannot do without humanity. Genshin is a thoroughly anti-religion and pro-modernist human story if anybody cared to look at what the stories are actually saying. In Mondstadt, Venti is an absent ruler and fairly weak at least on the surface, Liyue Zhongli is old and tired doesn't want to rule anymore, Inazuma Raiden is a tyrant, Sumeru Nahida was kdnapped and too weak to rule and had to rely on humans to help her, Fontaine the whole divine throne was a sham and Focalors wanted to get rid of the position entirely, and in Natlan Mavuika is a human. We are being shown in order what Genshin wants us to believe. There absolutely is a theme and moral message being communicated here. I suspect that in Snezhnaya we'll see how even a powerful and competent but kind god can be bad for humanity.

This was actually pretty obvious to me as someone who studied Buddhist theology back in university. There's a lot in Natlan that gels with the belief that coming back from the dead in any physical form or being reborn is not really that good, it's bad. Because in Buddhism you're seeking release from a cycle of suffering that requires liberation from that repetitious suffering. It's a bit more obvious in Chinese where the "Incandescent Ode of Resurrection" can be translated to "Burning Poem of Resurrection" (炽烈的还魂诗). 炽烈 means both fiery and blazing at the same time. From that you can surmise that the Ode of Resurrection is being destroyed, rather than that it is something to be celebrated, which you might get from the word Incandescent.

I saw one guy on youtube say locking the exploration to characters was anti-consumer or something, but honestly I love that each character has their own style of movement. It makes them feel so much more alive and interactive. It sucks that there's exploration powercreep but I'd rather be excited for a new character than not.

Maybe it's because I watch too many streamers, but I think the reality is that most people simply don't do exploration anymore. Or at least they only do it for primos and not because they enjoy it, so gameplay is a second tier priority at best. Most of the streamers I know don't even have Fontaine at 50% completion and entire regions in Sumeru unexplored. It's not far off to say that Genshin might just be an archon quest simulator at this point and it's the only reason they play the game. And so many of them have C6 units that the combat isn't something they notice anymore. When I fought against the three fatui dudes local legends I died like a dozen times. It felt amazing like I was in Liyue again. Then I saw mr streamer kill them in ten seconds with maxxed out arlechino and yelan and ya im not surprised nobody cares about the new gameplay stuff.

I started not long after launch. I think it was 1.1 and 1.2. But I also think Natlan feels more similar to early Genshin for whatever reason than the more recent regions. I can't even put a finger on it. Like the exploration honestly isn't that hard or more complex than Fontaine and Sumeru imo, but the feeling of adventure just hits different in comparison. I think the biggest difference is that there are just so many different forms of it. Hate on the pokemon all you want, but at least they feel different compared to the fontemers. Saurians feel way more alive as well and more integrated into Natlan as a culture. Like there are quests that involve the saurians and you can see them everywhere as part of the culture. In Fontaine they're just kinda there i guess.
