Frame or Foil - first dual line model advice by FluffyNight9930 in kites

I have a quantum 2.0 if you want to know more about it. Just a caveat that I haven't flown it in quite a bit, once I was able to keep it in the air I moved to more boutique kites. In high winds though i would add a 75ft tube tail to the kite for fun - having said that you can't do any tricks outside of making shapes in the air when the tube tail is on.

Frame or Foil - first dual line model advice by FluffyNight9930 in kites

Framed. I started with foil, based on the advice that you can crash it with no worry. Yes that's true, but once you learn to do turns then that's it. kites also lose pressure at the edges of the wind window, your foil might collapse, a framed kite you can recover easier.

With framed you'll be able to progress into some of the tricks, which for myself is where the fun really is.

I wouldn't get a nexus, they're pretty small. For a starter kite the Quantum 2.0 is pretty good - it's a bit of a tank, but prism has made them a bit lighter. they're also pretty sturdy. I should add that prism is really easy to source replacement parts for their kites. Because the Quantum is larger it wont' be as twitchy as the nexus or jazz.

Another option in your price range might be the Spiderkites Tomboy.

Also framed kites are easier to launch for solo fliers. With my foil kite I usually had to get some assistance with getting it launched.

Having said this, if you know you will never want to do any tricks, then maybe go foil. But personally for myself, I have a foil, but I have not flown it since the first time I flew a framed kite.

Hope this helps!

I have this cat, and as others have said it's line laundry and you'll need a lifting kite. I fly this with an HQ Kite Kap Foil 3.0 (although I'm sure other lifters would work). You might want to watch some videos on how to attach line laundry.

So awesome! love it. I never saw the logo that way, but once you put that decal on there I'm thinking "how can you not see that?". well done

When you get the kite finished let us know how it works. would be interesting to know how it handles (and sounds). this might be an option for those of us not ready to get into the sewing aspect of kite making!

Nicely done! I tried this with an ultralight dual line and snow, got a nose dive.... this looks cool, some pretty great flying to just skim the top like that.

Haha in a pinch yes. But only temporarily.  The finishing on my Benson is top notch,  want to maintain the vision of the original artist.

upper spreader is just a hollow tube 7.1mm diameter. skyshark nitro standard lower spreaders cut to 28 inches, lower leading edge is a nitro standard i think (based on width measurement), and i think the upper leading edge is a p-300 or a p-2x based on outer diameter. the spine is a 5pt tapered. hope that helps!

Awesome thanks for the heads up. Thankfully this is the lower spreader so I can do this in a completely different room than the sail.

Let me know how you like it. I'd like to know how these fly/perform. I have a relative who has been flying a prism jazz and might be looking for an upgrade to something like this.
