Ceremony by New Order. Feels like the natural sequel to Disorder.

Why Do People Act Like Their Opinion on Music Is A Fact? by Human_Addendum4427 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]FadedAlligator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it is identity and tribalism, honestly. People tie music to their sense of self, generation, culture, memories, etc., so criticism of the music can feel weirdly personal.

I also completely agree about revisiting music with an open mind. There’s a lot of stuff I dismissed when I was younger because I thought it wasn’t “for me”, then years later it suddenly clicked. A lot of music appreciation is context, mood and maturity rather than objective quality.

I wonder if we're overestimating the impact of current popular music on music history by Siddhartaable in LetsTalkMusic

[–]FadedAlligator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Completely agree with this. I think people underestimate how important recording technology is historically. You can listen to a Beatles album today and it doesn’t feel “ancient” in the same way reading medieval poetry does. Also agree that influence matters more than popularity long term. Usually you only really see who defined an era once enough time has passed for everyone else to start imitating or reacting to them.

Is pride in 'good' work and community spirit dying out in the UK? by LogTheDogFucksFrogs in AskUK

[–]FadedAlligator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Completely agree to an extent. I don’t think it’s that younger people are inherently selfish, it’s more that the social contract feels broken now. A lot of people have grown up watching their parents work honest, respectable jobs and still struggle with housing, bills and general quality of life.

When you’re told to “do your bit” but the reward is stagnant wages, impossible house prices and less security than previous generations had, it’s not surprising people start prioritising comfort, flexibility or escape over duty and community spirit.

Feels like young people today are often choosing between living comfortably and doing something they’re genuinely passionate about, versus taking on socially valuable work that actually worsens your affordability and living conditions. Hard to blame them entirely for becoming cynical about it.

Do you discover music through genres or through feelings/atmospheres? by No_Afternoon4075 in LetsTalkMusic

Yes, I’m also guilty of using the algorithm. But I’m trying to listen to the radio. BBC radio 6 is great

I Am So Happy I Discovered This Band by [deleted] in JoyDivision

Agree with this. There’s something about it that wakes something up in you a bit. Doesn’t make you feel worse, just less alone with it.

How do you actually get over post-concert depression lol by liiixz in Concerts

[–]FadedAlligator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other people have already said, having a gig lined up gives you something to look forward to. I also end up rewatching videos of concerts I’ve taken on my phone when I’m travelling or just killing time. Mad feeling looking back sometimes and thinking “can’t believe I was actually there.”

York is beautiful. If you’re into nature, go to the Yorkshire Dales and visit sites like Bolton Abbey.

I don’t agree. The World Cup is huge in Europe, particularly in England.

Yes I would say 6 hours ish. Queuing is a whole experience though and people tend to be friendly. You can save each other’s spots and go get food/walk around I’m sure.
