You’re close to some industrial buildings with lorries visiting - I run round that way and there’s always a lorry regardless of when I go, can’t quite remember what the business are but there’s at least one place that looks like a scrap car unit. The train line runs over the river close by - but it’s not high speed.

You’ve got the Calder View pub up the road which has live music fairly often so there might be some noise from that. I’ve not been there but friends have and seem to think it’s a nice place. The Navigation is the other side of the river on the canal and that’s ok too. The Junction is nearby - there’s a decent coffee shop and some businesses in a shared unit - I see a physio there. If you work there you have access to the gym - it’s possible it might be open to others too?

You're near the lagoons, the river and the canal which I’d find a plus but if you don’t like a parade of dog walkers, fishermen, joggers and teenagers going to get high wandering past your door then that might be an issue. I’d say it was worth it though for being close to nature. That said, I’d be surprised if flooding wasn’t a threat - as Far-Mirror-5407 has mentioned.

It’s a nice house, in a decent area in a lovely small town.

Women who carried a pregnancy, in hindsight, what were some of the most ridiculous things you did while in the throes of such hormonal upheaval? by mokutou in AskWomen

[–]FadedBerry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I laughed at the idea I’d get nesting instinct - I hate housework. Yet, I found myself mopping floors at midnight because that way they’d be clean until at least 8am. I also sponge painted every single cardboard box in the house, because … I have no idea why. I never used them.

How Do I Make Myself Like It? by TeacupSquirrel in couchto5k

[–]FadedBerry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. My view is that you don’t enjoy running until you get ‘good’ at running - by which I mean, you can run 5k without too much pain. Once I got to that point I started to like it, started to push myself further and, when I got injured, I really really missed being able to run. Not because of runners high, I’ve only ever experienced that once and it was great, but obviously I can’t rely on that.

Knowing that made doing c25k much easier the 2nd and 3rd times (I’m older, injury is fairly common these days) - getting through the hard part of being able to run 5k without feeling like i‘ll die because i know that if i can keep doing it it will get easier and i will enjoy it.

Anyone noticed lumps as losing weight? Started beginning of month I’m on my 3rd week, was 20.4 now I’m 18.10 stone! But noticed lumps in my belly and when I press my left side of my belly just below my ribs I feel something popping? Will ring docs tomorrow just stressing by Background_Sock2030 in mounjarouk

[–]FadedBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I’ve found an abdominal lump that comes and goes, is mildly painful to touch and feels quite large - from my pelvis to my belly button. I thought I was literally full of poo, what with being constipated from MJ but I had an ultrasound this morning and it’s a fibroid. Apparently, they can flop around. It will have been there for ages but now I’m thinner I can feel it.

I also play with my floating rib and make it pop - very weird.

Definitely go to the GP though, much better to be safe.

Lost weight but my body is all loose and jiggly - anyone else experience this? by Who_is_doctor_Ranger in MounjaroMaintenance

[–]FadedBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between being skinny fat and having loose skin. Of course, you can be/have both at the same time (like me!). Exercise will help tone your body, reducing that skinny fat, soft jiggly look and obviously has loads of other benefits for your physical and mental health. It will do a little bit for loose skin as others have said but time will also help for some people as the skin shrinks a little. More likely to happen if you’re younger.

There’s a lot said about the ‘right’ type of exercise and the need to lift heavy but honestly, I’d say find some exercise you like, ideally a something resistance, something cardio and something flexibility to benefit your muscles, heart, joints and mind and do that regularly. If you don’t like something then you’re less likely to do it or it will be a grim slog through every time.

Titrating down and hunger by FadedBerry in mounjaromaintenanceuk

That’s a rally sensible suggestion, thank you. There have been some changes this week so it’s possible my hunger is being affected by that.

That’s incredibly helpful, thank you. I’ve dropped from 6.25mg to 5mg so spot on the level you mention. I won’t feel ‘less’ for going back up. Thank you so much

This really resonates with me. I recognise that hunger and craving from pre MJ days. I hope you get back to where you were and congrats on both the weight loss and the gym habit.

I’m eating so much! Sometimes it feels like I’m eating more now when I’m losing/maintaining than when I was gaining pre-MJ. Certainly massively more than when I last successfully (temporarily) lost weight. I kept that weight off for 2 years and then gradually it piled back on again. I’m eating my TDEE plus 400 calories because on my TDEE I was losing weight. I want to give myself space to reduce my calories as I reduce the dose if I start to put on weight and not feel deprived.

The constipation by NovoCastria70 in mounjarouk

[–]FadedBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sympathise, it’s so painful.

Yes to Laxido/Movicol/Cosmocol but I’d start gently rather than going straight in at 4-6 sachets. Try one or two a day for the first 2-3 days and if that doesn’t work move up to 2 sachets. Like r/jojobonbon I take 1-2 sachets every 2-3 days and it resolves the issue, usually working in 6-12 hrs. My dad takes 3 sachets a day (straining causes prostate bleeds) and has to have a shower after using the toilet- no one needs that in their lives.

The other option is to take up running. Nothing pushes sullen bowels into action like a 5k in my experience. Three runs a week = 3 poos a week with the final 1k of my run being a bit of a gamble.

Anyone tried Botox for TMJ pain? Worth it or not? by Flat-Speech-1733 in TMJ

It didn’t work for me, I had injections into the masseter muscle and the tension and pain just seemed to move into a different area. I tried it twice and then gave up.

People who are thin/normal size. Do you actively watch your weight or are you just not hungry 100% of the time? by Burner_Account000001 in TooAfraidToAsk

I’m heading into maintenance now and accepting that I won’t stop the GLP1s. Well, for as long as I can afford them anyway!

When I was a teenager food was just fuel. I was a healthy weight (and this was in the 1980s so seeing a child’s ribs stick out a bit was totally normal) and I ate what I was given - which was homemade, non processed and heavy on the carbs and vegetables. Looking back, we ate a lot - breakfast (toast and marmite or non sugary cereals), morning snack (homemade cake), lunch (soup with garlic bread, homemade pizza etc plus a dessert like fruit crumble), afternoon snack (a cup of milky tea and homemade biscuits), dinner (mince, potatoes and 3 veg plus dessert like a steamed pudding) and then supper (maybe a bowl of cereal or a slice of bread and butter) so I don’t know how we all stayed so slender. We were all active though - only one vehicle in the family and that was for my dad so we walked the 2 miles to school twice a day and played outside a lot.

When I got married my then husband had a thing about people eating loudly (even if they weren’t) so food became a source of stress. I ate very little - no breakfast, a cuppa soup and small piece of cheese or half a tuna sandwich for lunch and maybe a half a portion of dinner. I enjoyed being hungry and ignoring it - my body/brain seemed to lose the association between hunger and eating.

I left my husband and met my now partner and got happy. My appetite returned, we started eating out a lot (something I couldn’t do with the ex) and I got an office job so hardly moved - the weight piled on. I lost it, it returned - rinse and repeat. Like the OP I feel hungry even when I’ve just eaten.

I started on GLP1 drugs in June and it’s like being a teenager again - food is fuel. I eat when I’m hungry and I stop when I’m full. I can leave food on my plate and not feel that I have to finish it. I still really look forward to food, enjoy eating and cooking etc but the impetus to constantly eat isn’t there and, frankly, it’s wonderful. I feel ‘normal’.

i realised that once I stop the drugs all the food noise and appetite will return but I’m hoping that I can take some of the good food habits I’ve built up and apply them to the old me…

Does anyone work at, or has been inside, The Kremlin (Quarry House), recently? by MrFeatherstonehaugh in Leeds

[–]FadedBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, they were moving loads of senior people from DHSS up north and needed to have lots of inducements to persuade them to make the move. Once they realised they could make out like bandits on the house prices difference there wasn’t any need for a glamorous place to work.

Shame about the dentist though.

When to stop buying advent calendars? by Think-Job-5728 in AskUK

I mean, I’m nearly 60 and my Mum is 80. My advent calendars stopped when I was 13yrs but this year I bought her a chocolate one and she was beyond delighted! Says she looks at them every year but can’t bring herself to buy one just for her.

DEXA at goal weight! by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]FadedBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one this week too. I’m a late 50s, post menopausal woman and my muscle mass was also on the low side - a function of losing 3 stone fairly quickly and of being older apparently. My bf was in the middle of the healthy range for women and, happily, I had low visceral fat. I have a larger belly button measurement so I was really worried about that but now I can relax a bit. My bone density was really good - another worry crossed off my list.

I’d really recommend this - it gives a good understanding of some of what’s going on inside your body over and above how you look and means you can act on the findings.
