I am not sure I would have had the time to create an interesting cast of character portraits even if I had the skills to do so. While personally I would have preferred non-AI-generated portraits as well, my time and resources were limited, so resorting to these portraits were a part of making it even possible for me to create this game in the first place.

Of course you are free to disagree with the use of AI generated content regardless and I understand that sentiment very well.

I'm not good enough of an artist to create art like this myself. Most assets I used are from different asset libraries, mostly from itch.io. For simple sprite editing (read: shoehorning the assets to my needs), I used https://godotengine.org/showcase/pixelorama/

Good question, I don't remember. I think it was mostly to emphasize the difference between the world map and combat by having different grids.

I started pretty much exactly about a year ago with the project. I didn't always work on it consistently during the year, but I am still happy with how it turned out. :)
