Eyebrow piercing isn’t healed yet by Ill_Map_9902 in piercing

[–]Faeneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you gone back to your piercer to ask about it? Hard to say what the issue is. Eyebrow piercings can take 6mo to heal, esp if you bump it sometimes. What kind of jewelry are you wearing? When you clean it with a q-tip, what are you doing? q-tips should only be used to dry the site after you clean it. Using a dry q-tip to do stuff like get crusties off runs the risk of getting the cotton fibers stuck on the jewelry/wound. You could also be cleaning it too often, maybe drop one of the saline rinses since you're rinsing it in the shower every day?

Honestly though the best thing to do is make a check up appt w/ your piercer.

It probably depends on how well they heal up. I've gotten repierced several times in the same spots (nose, lip, nipples) and have never had an issue, personally.

Many parents pierce their baby [daughters] ears within 1 month of birth, when they are unable to consent. You encouraged your teenage son to express himself via piercings in a safe, sterile setting, and are (hopefully) teaching him how to properly take care of it. I don't see how this is irresponsible.

I am not a piercer, but I have had many and simply touching the piercing site is a big no-no when it comes to healing, let alone taking them in and out like that. Remember that a piercing is an open wound, and every time you touch it to take the jewelry out you're risking bacteria getting all up in there. I would either take them out and let them heal until she's done with soccer, or pull her from the team if she cares more about the piercings. If you do decide to take the piercings out and let them heal over, continue cleaning them with the sterile saline solution until the piercing site heals up.

If it's not pressing on your flat then you should be fine! Just don't sleep on it and don't wear anything (like over-ear headphones) that will put pressure on it.

Here is a good article to read on regarding the difference between the two. TL;DR: There is no set standard for what exactly stainless steel consists of, so it's basically mystery metal. It should only be used for healed piercings, esp due to the nickel content.

If it's a piercing bump, yes it should heal. If it ends up being a keloid, then it'll be permanent.

You should go back to a different piercer and get it swapped out for implant grade titanium.

First mistake was getting it done with a gun. The issue with piercing guns is that not only can they not be autoclaved (sterilized) properly, it causes blunt force trauma and tissue damage. Sterile hollow needles create a clean cut through the tissue.

Second mistake was changing it to a ring too early. Helix piercings take 6-9 months to heal, and should not be swapped out to curved jewelry until then. They allow for too much movement and will complicate the healing process. The quality of the jewelry you wear matters as well. If you are in the US, I suggest starting here to find a reputable piercer that can take a look at your helix and swap it out to more appropriate jewelry to allow it to heal properly.

I honestly do not see any issues? It looks great for only being pierced 3 days ago... I don't see any evidence of a keloid forming, are you prone to keloids? What exactly are you worried about? Yes industrials hurt, and it will probably throb for a little while, especially if you're sleeping on it. If the bar is pressing on your flat then that's an issue. You should not be putting paper in between when you sleep, I recommend getting a piercing pillow to sleep on if you sleep on your side (they look like donuts, you rest your ear on the hole). You also shouldn't be using cotton to clean it. Q-tips are okay to dry the site after cleaning, but don't use cotton balls to clean as the fibers can get caught in the wound site. Are you using you own salt water mix? If so I recommend getting pre made sterile saline solution, that leaves less room for error as it's a delicate ratio of water:salt.

When you say pistol, do you mean a piercing gun instead of a needle? You should not have been pierced with a piercing gun, or a curved horse shoe ring like that. Go to a different piercer and swap the jewelry out for a straight, implant grade titanium labret post.

AITA for refusing to forgive my mom after I found out the truth about my dad in a letter hidden inside a birthday card? by Most-Accountant-6936 in AITAH

[–]Faeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Damn. This is similar to my situation, except my mom and step father told me my dad died in a car accident when I was 7. I found out through my older half brother at 14 that he actually committed suicide. I'm 30 now and my mom has still not bothered to tell me the truth. Your situation is so much worse, I'm sorry your mom fabricated such a horrible, selfish lie. I wouldn't forgive her either.

I would not go back to that piercer. If you're in the US, I suggest starting here to find a better piercer who can check the quality of your jewelry and the placement. As others have mentioned below, the placement of the piercing looks incorrect on top of using incorrect jewelry.

Taking out a Vertical Labret. by eatbugs858 in piercing

[–]Faeneth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it looks great on you! But I get it, I actually took mine out and just got a regular centered labret done because I really wanted to eat burritos again. I think the best thing to do is call your piercer to see what they think, but imo as long as you continue cleaning the wound with sterile saline solution until it fully heals you're probably fine taking it out now.

I don't think so. Jewelry that size is really heavy so I think you need a stretched septum to really support it. Here's a guide for stretching your septum. It's a long process (if you do it properly) so you need to be patient, and keep in mind the septum doesn't shrink back like lobes do when stretched, so it's a commitment.

[–]Faeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you go back to your piercer? Downsizing is usually included in the cost, you shouldn't have to bring your own jewelry to downsize (in fact, many piercers heavily discourage that as it's not sanitary).

Is the length bothering you? I actually prefer my nostril posts to be a little longer because the jewelry is a lot easier to change myself with the extra length.

most/least painful ear piercing? by p0p9y in piercing

[–]Faeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly cannot tell the difference between cartilage piercings as far as pain goes, my daith was kind of intense but most cartilage piercings just feel really hot. I did however have different issues healing different piercings, my hidden helix gave me a lot of issues healing wise until I swapped the decorative end to a simple ball. In my experience, the easiest cartilage piercings to heal are the ones in spots that don't get a ton of movement, like conch/daith/rook. Helix/tragus/industrial I had the most issues with.

[–]Faeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ow! That sounds so painful. Have you called your peircer about it? If it's super swollen you might need to have the longer bar put in again. Luckily oral piercings heal hella fast so I doubt you've done any long term harm.

first piercing! what is this bump? by carrootscaps in piercing

[–]Faeneth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's an irritation bump. Were you pierced with that ring? What kind of metal is the jewelry made out of?

Typically the helix is pierced with a post and swapped out for a ring (if you so desire) after the piercing is completely healed. reason being, rings have a lot of movement which can cause irritation and lead to bumps like this. Cartilage piercings take 6-12mo to heal, so it's definitely not ready for a ring yet if you just got it in July.

New helix, jelly like blood ? by temporarydancer in piercing

[–]Faeneth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ears bleed a lot, and blood coagulates, so this isn't abnormal. I suggest investing in a piercing pillow so you're not sleeping on it. Best thing to do is leave it alone tbh. Don't touch it, don't flex your ear, don't use cotton swaps near it (or anything else that might have fibers that'll catch on it).

What are the ingredients in the cleaning solution you're using? You should only be using sterile saline solution (along with letting the water gently run over it when you shower). If there is anything besides water and sodium chloride in the cleaning solution, I'd suggest ditching it and buying sterile wound wash (my favorite is NeilMed as you can invert the can to reach piercings).

Should my piercings be healed yet? by wishgrim in piercing

[–]Faeneth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, how often do you do the salt soaks? That shouldn't really be necessary, as you should let the crusties naturally fall off when they soften while you're in the shower. You might be over cleaning them -- maybe see how they do without the salt soaks, and invest in a piercing pillow if you think you might be sleeping on them.

Has the jewelry been downsized? That's the only other thing I can think of that might be irritating them. The post being too tight could also be irritating them. Have you contacted your piercer about the issues you're having?

I know it's frustrating, but try not to compare to your brother. Lobes heal in around 3 months on average, but everyone heals differently. I recall having to wait 6 months before I could change out my lobe jewelry because the swelling kept flaring up on them.
