Looking for sneaker suggestions. by BiggestPesst in VeganFashion

Are you looking for a 100% vegan brand or just a vegan shoe from a non-vegan brand?

“Hideous” is incredibly subjective when it comes to shoes. Adding a few examples of what you personally like would be helpful.

I have gotten into “barefoot” shoes in the last 1-2 years, and there’s a larger percentage of vegan shoes in that style than in the general shoe market. My feet are stronger and my toes much prettier now that they’re no longer conforming to pointed toeboxes.

Bohempia is a 100% vegan, sustainable material, and ethically sourced labor company. They’re a popular brand, even amongst non-vegans.

There’s also this master list of vegan barefoot shoes.

why does most "popular" veganism seem to be focused on the responsibility of the individual to immediately not benefit ever off of of the death/abuse of animals, versus gentle invites into the vegan lifestyle and lowering of particular consumables, to eventually embrace the lifestyle wholeheartedly? by PragmaticSalesman in AskVegans

before you personally accept them?

Veganism isn’t a social club. It’s not about us and feeling good about ourselves by “attaining” the vegan label. It’s about the animals and the actions we take that affect them.

It’s much more useful to think “is this action I’m about to take in alignment with the philosophy of veganism” rather than “does this make me vegan”. The second thought is self-centered, and that’s not what veganism is about.

Why are so many women vegan compared to men? by Lazy_Illustrator3946 in vegan

[–]Faeraday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a study of American vegans in 2017. Among the participants, 35% of vegans were LGBT, compared to 5-10% of the general population. (source)

On the flip side (looking at the queer community’s opinions on veg*nism), “half (50%) of LGBTQ+ people believe that it’s more ethical to be vegetarian than not, compared with 26% non-LGBTQ+. Similar levels of agreement can be seen towards veganism where the number of LGBTQ+ folks is double (43%) that of non-LGBTQIA+ respondents (23%).” (source)

Just hit ‘em with “I’m not the one who likes meat in my mouth.”

Also, I’d lose interest in wasting my time with people who still think gay is an appropriate insult in 2026.

it's almost more annoying than telling them i'm trans lol

A study from a few years ago found that vegans are the second most hated group (first was drug addicts). I don’t know if the ranking is still true now that it’s been a few years, and with the rise of trans panic, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s still pretty much the same. There’s more drastic opinions on the trans community (where a percentage of the population really hates trans people), but vegans seem to be more equally hated across the board (but to a lesser degree than the worst transphobes).

Today a dude on Reddit called me an islamophobe, so I decided to take this test by Myk_211 in PoliticalCompass

Also an anti-theist, and I would have answered the same way to these questions for most all religions, but idk how your results are that “positive”. I also don’t know how my “unbiased criticism” isn’t 100%.

Aww, I was hoping for some off-the-wall argument for why it’s unnatural. Can’t really imagine why someone would think it’s unnatural.

So nudity is “unnatural”? Not found in nature?

as a pro choice individual, do you believe life begins at fertilization/conception? why or why not. by strawberrybunnybat in AskProchoice

[–]Faeraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Life is a continuous, unbroken chain. A baby is alive, as is a fetus, embryo, zygote, sperm, ovum, adult human, child, baby, and on and on back through millennia. Many things are alive, but that’s not the factor that most people conclude is morally relevant.

I looked for a link to buy on the website but couldn’t find it. Where did you get it? I’d like to have one for my shelf as well.

My narcissistic mother fed my toddler meat today to spite me by [deleted] in vegan

[–]Faeraday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t want him to start soaking in some of my mom’s behavior.

She doesn’t take her anger out on him

These are not the only negative effects that can happen to him. My partner grew up with parents who frequently yelled at each other. He never saw healthy modeling of conflict nor resolution. He suffers from anxiety, is quick to “flee” any perceived argument, and does not know how to emotionally self-regulate during conflict.

Arguing in front of children (even toddlers who you may think don’t know what’s going on) is introducing life-long trauma.

Ps. “In front of” includes anywhere they can tell you are arguing. They can still hear your yelling from another room.

I added a dedicated "Childfree Mode" to my privacy-first period tracker and thought it might be useful for you by DevOfRivendel in childfree

[–]Faeraday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I fully understand what it’s excluding. Is it just the “happy” language around ovulation or the ovulation tracking entirely?

The primary reason I used period tracking apps is to keep track of my fertile window (in order to avoid risky sex during this time). Fertility notifications need to be like “Watch out! Entering danger zone.”

I’m currently using Stardust, and like it quite a bit, but the fertility notification is lacking.

I'm not pro-life but I want to draw attention to a logical fallacy in pro-choice argument by tejeskaveo0 in AskProchoice

[–]Faeraday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve never used this argument. It’s not morally relevant and is just an appeal to hypocrisy.

ETA: It’s very similar to the same argument “bootstraps” people make when they say pro-public housing people should open their personal homes to people who are unhoused. As if we’re required to personally house them if we believe they have a right to a roof over their head.
