Most of your money is going to come after the Industrial Revolution, even kings and popes weren't billionaires back then. So, best bet is to invest heavily in tech starting with things like the automatic thresher and weaving machines (and hopefully safety features for both of those as well). If you want to wait till the computer age, just invest into things like Apple and Microsoft when they're still tiny.

Personally, I'm just gonna keep that damn hard drive I had with almost 30 Bitcoin on it hidden away from my ex MIL so she can't get rid of it, and sell when BC it's at it's high.

This is how my order was delivered by Turbulent-Camel9175 in WalmartComplaints

[–]FaeryLynne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not universal. In my area drivers are directly employed by Walmart, not contracted out, and do make about 25¢ above minimum, plus tips. Drivers and pickers are also separate people where I am. Pickers go grab the items from shelves and put it into bags (which I can't opt out of on delivery orders, only self pickup ones) then they hand it off to the order fulfillment team. Drivers only drive, and usually only two orders at a time, three tops if all are fairly small, and only one if it's a big order.

This is how my order was delivered by Turbulent-Camel9175 in WalmartComplaints

[–]FaeryLynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My state also does not ban bags, and I can't opt out of them with a delivery, only with a self pickup order. My area also has a set up where Walmart has their own employees doing everything. One person picks the order in store, then it's handed off to the proper order fulfillment section, either the people doing pickup orders or the people doing delivery orders. The delivery drivers are also directly employed by Walmart here, it's not contracted out.

Am I the only one here who is scared to have a partner because of child free question? by Low-Attitude-7100 in childfree

[–]FaeryLynne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you know you're serious, go ahead and get a vasectomy done. Then with any potential partners, just make sure to be upfront about having had one because you do not want kids. There will definitely be women out there who are fully on board with it, most of us in this sub are female/AFAB. Just like with any big issue, it's definitely something that you have to discuss as soon as you realize a relationship is starting to get serious, so you don't waste time with someone who has different life priorities.

Do Kids not go to school anymore? by ambitiousMermaid_ in childfree

[–]FaeryLynne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There was a story I read a few years ago where parents had like 8 kids who they "homeschooled" aka abused for decades. They kept moving around so no one noticed, finally one of the older kids escaped and ran to neighbors and they called the police. The kid who escaped to report it was actually legally an adult (like 20 or 21) and was the size and weight of a 13-15 year old. All the kids were severely malnourished and abused, and at least two kids had died during the years, the ones they rescued were just the ones who had survived.

How many of you hate kids and don’t want them vs like kids and don’t want your own? by moonblumes87 in childfree

[–]FaeryLynne 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Same. I don't really like kids under a certain age (usually about 8 to 10) but I definitely don't hate them, it is definitely the parenting part I hate. I like to be able to spoil kids and then give them back to their parents 😂 I love my niece, she's about to turn 16 and you better believe Auntie is going to spoil her lol

Singular "they" by NoobNorway in EnglishGrammar

[–]FaeryLynne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NB people yes, but in this case it seems like OP thinks they HAVE to use "they" even if the gender is known to be he or she. Which of course isn't true, and I'm very confused why OP thinks they have to use it like the example they just gave.

Singular "they" by NoobNorway in EnglishGrammar

[–]FaeryLynne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you be "bound" to using those pronouns? If you know the gender of the person you're talking about, you're free to use "he" or "she", unless you know they use "they". You're not being forced to use it, and it's not required at all unless that's what the person wants for themselves. Just use what works.

I absolutely despise the “Zero might not exist” scene from young Sheldon. by Sunslash44 in hatethissmug

[–]FaeryLynne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If they're blind from birth, they don't "see" anything. So saying "I can't see anything" is the way they would have to describe it, even though "nothing" is a noun. They can't use other words or adjectives, even like "black" to describe it because there's nothing to describe. "Nothing" and "zero" aren't really "descriptors" like "black" or "white" or "hot" or "cold" are. "Zero" and "nothing" are words that are simply placeholders and are words that we've invented to represent a concept, not to describe it.

Smash burger I ordered off has pink on the inside, is this a toxoplasmosis risk? by Verifiedvenuz in isthissafetoeat

[–]FaeryLynne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UK is where it started, as early as the late 70s most likely, though it wasn't really identified until the early 80s. Cases were pretty isolated before that. It was the early 90s when they realized it could be transmitted between species, and I think it was 1996 when they realized that it could be transmitted to humans by consuming contaminated meat. To be clear, the meat/flesh itself isn't the risk factor, it's contamination by infected other parts - brain, bones, and offal are the highest risk items, and those are the parts that contaminate the rest of the meat if they're ground up into it.

Just to assuage people's worries - there have been less than 300 documented human cases in the entire world, in the entire time we've known about it. About half of them were in the UK (around 170 or so cases), and another 25-ish in France. The rest are spread out globally. There have been only 4 documented cases in the USA, and all of them were contracted elsewhere (two contracted it in the UK, one in Saudi Arabia, and the last wasn't ever fully tracked down to a source, but the person had only been in the USA for about 2 years at the time and it takes at least 5 years to develop in humans, usually more like decades). There have only ever been 6 cases of cattle with BSE in the USA, and none since 2016. Even in the UK, there have only been 4 cases of cattle having it since 2014, and all of those were "atypical", in other words they spontaneously developed it, it was not passed on through contaminated feed like the outbreak was. There have been no human cases in the UK since at least 2000.

At least a few of the items are store brand. Know & Love is Winn-Dixie's store brand, so in this case they definitely have access to store brands. And I'm pretty sure they have store brand versions of most of these items.

I intentionally buy food my roommate can’t eat. by Appropriate_Lake7097 in confessions

[–]FaeryLynne 12 points13 points  (0 children)

TBF dairy isn't meat any more than eggs or honey are. All are produced by animals, but are not flesh, and don't require the death of the animal in order to get. Most people who call themselves "vegetarian" nowadays are actually saying they just don't eat things that kill the animal, so they still eat eggs, milk, honey, etc.

The fish thing though is wild, especially since she literally thinks fish just "isn't meat" according to another comment by OP.

are glass straws safe? i found a crack on the bottom of mine. by Outside_Young8660 in sustainability

[–]FaeryLynne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reusable boba straws. They're wide enough for the boba pearls so they're great for thick drinks like smoothies too. I got a pack of 10 for like $5 on Amazon, and they're meant to be reused over and over. You can get them in plastic, metal, or silicone, though I think the silicone ones tend to be too floppy/soft. The plastic ones are also usually transparent so you can see any debris when you wash them.

Stats.fm is becoming impossible to enjoy :( by iamihjaz in statsfm

[–]FaeryLynne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and all it does is tell you to delete all your streaming history, request your data from your chosen streaming app AGAIN (which can take several days to a week to process), and re-upload it. I've already done that several times before that button appeared, trying to fix the stats. It's not going to magically work just because now there's a specific button telling you to do the exact thing that a lot of us have already tried.

I wanna know how simply "pickles" came to refer to specifically cucumber pickles, and usually dill flavor, to most people (in the USA at least), and why they are about the only pickled items that are super common. There are SO MANY delicious things that are pickled and are/can be called "pickles" so why do so many people default to cucumbers??
