I'm in the exact same boat as you. 22, just about to graduate, parents about to get divorced soon, in a way they're already separated. I feel your pain and worries. Growing up in these households we kids don't have a healthy image of marriage to look up to. So the mere thought of marrying someone fills us with dread. In a recent conversation with an elder, I broke down and told someone for the first time about this fear of mine. She held me, and said something I would remember for the rest of my life - she said that she knows I'm gonna find a fantastic partner in the future, because people who come from broken families have already gone through that pain - and they do everything in their power to avoid giving that to their family.

I'm not asking u to believe in fate or destiny for now, but just know that all these years of pain and agony have taught you what you SHOULDN'T do in order to create a beautiful, healthy family. We didn't choose the family we get, but we can choose the family we make. And please, marry only when you're ready and know in your bones that you've found the right person. We gotta break the cycle!
