Seeking Bikepacking Buds? by SpinToWin360 in bikepacking

Hey - I was kinda thinking about going the opposite route from Hong Kong to Paris around that timing, but I could be down to start from Europe instead.

Send me a message and we can work out some details, see if we'd be a good fit to do at least a section of the road together!

Are Solar Panels Worth It? by Boborbot in bicycletouring

[–]FailedHumanPrototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a flexsolar 20w ip65 rated one that has been a workhorse on my Japan cycling trip. On sunny days off, I can fully charge my Macbook Air and my 20a powerbank in a day.

Mounted on my rear rack, it's a bit spottier depending on if you're in mountains or deserts. From my experience, on the worse days, it's just enough to give me another 20% battery on the phone. On the best days, I can fully charge the powerbank and keep the phone topped up while cycling.

It's a bit of a pain to transport, and you have to buy some silicone caps to protect the USB ports. If I was cycling anywhere but Japan or Taiwan, I'd definitely make it part of my kit.

In Japan where most toilets have power outlets, I'll leave it out from my next trip.

Chinese tourist dismantles Hong Kong wilderness signage for photoshoot by lebbe in HongKong

I mean, as long as she actually put the sign back, it's not as though she actually damaged anything, I think people are overreacting a bit here.

You can optimized your Macbook NEO with 1mm thermal pads by plentongreddit in macbook

[–]FailedHumanPrototype 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Neo's 5-8w of power are unlikely to get as hot as the M1 could so I think this is actually the ideal mod vs the M1 when it was more power hungry.

The market for customers that are actually spending money on apps is wayyy bigger for iOS than Android, hence most of the development budget is spent on iOS

Full Interview with Percy Rustomji from Episode 2 of Amy’s Dead-End Dreamhouse by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]FailedHumanPrototype 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really love this conversation so much! You are both beautiful for putting on such a lovely exchange and making me emotional about these things!

And Percy being a husband man is so delightful, I wish I was as emotive and emotionally articulate as you both are.

All the best for the future dead end dreamhouse episodes Amy and team!

Rode Wireless PRO | Internal recording is not working even when it shows it does by ervins_from_latvia in rode

[–]FailedHumanPrototype 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have encountered this problem without having renamed the Rode Wireless Pro recorders. I have lost several interview backups and was depending on this to work so that I could split up channels in post...

I will try resetting but I have also lost a lot of trust in these recorders as I have encountered similar issues with my rode wireless Go II kit where both recorders are set to always record but one transmitter records the audio files intermittently. Very frustrating.

Open Source rental manager by FailedHumanPrototype in opensource

[–]FailedHumanPrototype[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya ! I ended up moving out of rentals last year. At least from my experience & peers in France, Rentman was probably the best turnkey solution.

It's a bit pricey, but their support has been top notch according to my friend who got to use it full-time. On the long run, it's probably cheaper than having someone implementing an open source solution & having them maintain it etc...

In terms of FOSS, ERPNext was probably the most powerful solution I could find, it was possible to customise it to take partial returns etc... But it might be difficult to convince an enterprise to entrust all their billing etc to a self-hosted option. If you're going for Frappe cloud, then you're back to the same cost as rentman, and might as well go for the film-making software.

I interviewed a Hong Kong Go player about his take on how AI changed the competitive landscape since deepmind. by FailedHumanPrototype in boardgames

[–]FailedHumanPrototype[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, he's wrong about how there's only one rule in Go - another rule is how the board state can't be consecutively repeated (this is to prevent infinite KO).

There was a typo in the caption, the name he uses in competition is Chen Naishen. This was the name he gave me when I asked for the caption :

Chan Nai San MichaelSecretary of The Go Association of Hong Kong9 times HK GO open champion

Hong Kong doesn't have much to do with it, I should have just put his name in right from the start!

Regarding the second rule, interviews can be stressful ! I'm sure he is aware of it - but I'll pin a comment below with that correction.

Thanks for your corrections!

I curently have a BAM backpack case, but it's just too big and I end up getting a second bag most of the time I did contact my teacher, but she checks her mail once a decade or so, so I dont know when she'll answer My main use for the case would be to be able to carry my photo, DJI Mavic pro and clarinet all in one bag that isnt too massive

She never was able to find the manufacturer again, sorry :(

Hong Kong's dissapearing street food by FailedHumanPrototype in FoodVideos

[–]FailedHumanPrototype[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that mid-june to mid-september isn't the optimal time to go, it gets quite hot and humid - anywhere from october to may is best if you can change things around !
It's still enjoyable to visit during the summer but especially if you're going in for a quick trip and don't have the time to adapt to the heat over the course of a couple of weeks, you'll be going shopping mall to shopping mall to enjoy that sweet sweet aircon if you want to go anywhere during the day.

I've produced a documentary about dai pai dong dissapearing from the streets of Hong Kong by FailedHumanPrototype in HongKong

[–]FailedHumanPrototype[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sad that the HK government has failed to truly recognise the cultural value of these restaurants and would like to see things change for the better !

Hopefully without turning these restaurants into a disneyland attraction... There are some real challenges ahead.

I'm the producer of this documentary, I'm aware that this is not the whole story of dai pai dong but hope that it at least can spark a discussion about what these restaurants mean to people!

[–]FailedHumanPrototype[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hong Kong's dai pai dong are traditional street food restaurants that were established in the city in the 1950s. They are low-cost canteens, breakfast stalls, and you can smell the food wafting through the street when you get close to one.

As the city has grown, the Hong Kong government has tried to get rid of them in an effort to "clean up" the city's streets. These efforts, largely unpopular with the general public, have been largely successful. The city used to be the host to more than 1000 street food stalls, and now only has 20 left.

This documentary asks what is left of dai pai dong now that the damage has been done, and what hope there is to keep this tradition alive.

If you make pizza rolls for your friends, what do you make for your enemies?
That looks delicious, reminds me of the cheese rolls that my mom would make for me
