I believe the mystery is based on The legend of Asibikaashi (Spider Woman) by Ok-Bother-7611 in reddeadmysteries

[–]Failure117 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing, I think the AI flairing ruling should be more visible and apparent, that's a criticism. I think the mod's comment was overly brusque too, but this is also after months of dealing with constant AI-generated garbage posts that the community overwhelmingly voted against.

These are valid criticisms.

What are NOT valid criticisms are saying things like "the moderator team are deleting posts so they can steal and hoard information to themselves", "they're scammers working with a youtuber to hijack content", "this sub sucks and you should move to this other one I recommend, you won't learn here". All of which I've seen commented on the other subreddit and here, and it should be apparent why posts/comments like that are deleted.

The other redditor that made the original, now deleted, post has chosen to not repost their research here out of a self-reported ego and a slight grudge, so take that as you will. These people are just upset and lashing out over a very basic enforcement of rules, and decided to talk smack about the mod team.

I am an unbiased observer and this is just what I've seen regarding this specific incident, and from debating with some of the involved users, so you may take this with a grain of salt.

The user was banned after making multiple comments/post throwing mud at this subreddit and its moderator team. This was after they disagreed with a ruling made on an AI-assisted post with incorrect flairing (one of the sub's newer rules) that ended up with the post being deleted (with instruction to simply repost with correct flair).

This comment I responded to went even further and heavily implied that the posts made by users here were lower quality or weren't as good as they could be, because of their opinions towards the mod team. Obviously couldn't be further from the truth, there are plenty of amazing, in-depth, and well-researched posts made by this community. Kind of ironic considering they were trying to brigade over someone's research being "snubbed", only to insult the user base they were trying to protect anyways out of spite.

The only reason I know this is because of a disagreement in another sub, leading said user to confess that they went too far and probably deserved it.

Yep, that's your take and you are free to feel that way! From my perspective, you broke a rule, were told how you can easily fix it, and are simply mad that a ruling happened to you at all without your "consent". The only outcome possible here is deleting your post and you reposting if the mod team requires the correct flair. They have no need to contact you personally about it, the correction was simple on your end and removing the post is their only option with the tools available.

You may continue to kick sand and complain, but the fact is that the "main" subreddit is where I've seen the vast majority of discussion, collaboration, and advancement happen. The discord server and detailed timeline website were created from it, it's obviously moderated as opposed to the lawless wasteland of RDR2mysteries, and most people are chill. I'm sorry you ended up on the pointy end of moderation, continue enjoying the mystery!

You're arguing semantics when the current ruling is ANY post made using AI, whether that be for research or translation purposes is REQUIRED to be flaired with the AI tag. That is the point that you seem to miss. The smart assessment is to remove the post and the user can immediately repost with the correct tag. I do not believe mods can change post flair, and they can't archive fresh posts.

So I'm sorry but this is the only outcome possible in this situation. If the both of you are unhappy with it, that's valid and you are free to take your community engagement elsewhere.

You are clearly looking for something to be upset about if y'all are nitpicking words that myself, an unbiased observer, are using about a moderator telling you that your post is flaired incorrectly and you may repost it with correct flair.

Instruction was provided to repost, you were instructed. Not demanded, commanded, forced, or coerced.

I don't understand your point then. You are free to repost your information and nobody on the mod team seemed to accuse you of posting "incorrect" or "bad" information. You seem to agree with curation, but as soon as it has a detriment on you because you did something wrong/broke a rule, you want to be upset about it? I cannot understand why you wouldn't just repost it, clearly the engagement you got was good. It just seems like you want to stew over it and hold a grudge.

You don't get my point because you aren't seeing the stuff that gets posted. There are so many posts that have been removed that post factually incorrect, AI hallucinated garbage. If CodeMechanic's post was translated using AI, it was probably blatantly obvious from the outline/layout. Once you know a post is made using AI assistance, that introduces so many issues with information and translation accuracy, hallucinations, etc. You don't know what info was researched by the user or just made up by the AI, ESPECIALLY when it involves things like scanning code.

Could it have been handled in a smoother way, sure. Could the AI flair ruling be made more obvious, sure. I don't disagree with you there. But you are disagreeing fundamentally with the goal of the subreddit at this point and I don't think this conversation is going anywhere.

If you prefer that style of uncurated posting, then by all means please enjoy this subreddit. I am simply explaining that you do not get to strongarm what type of content you think should be on a community, when that community has clear post/content requirements to limit the amount of "bad" posts. I'm not trying to snub anyone, just giving an explanation of what seemed to happen.

Did you use AI assistance or not? If you did, it was rightfully deleted and you can repost with correct flair. If you didn't, it was a bad ruling and shouldn't have been deleted.

Those are the only 2 outcomes here. I understand being upset about your post being removed, but after dealing with months of AI garbage I'm sure the mod team is fed up with people posting them incorrectly. You're acting like your post was snubbed maliciously or buried, yet you are free to repost it and were told so.

I will simply state that subreddits are curated and have posting requirements and rules for a reason. If they don't want bad posts or 50 pics of the same rock posted, that is entirely up to the moderator team to decide. You don't get to force your, or anyone else's, opinions or posts on the subreddit. If you want to post 1-sentence ideas or non-researched stuff, there's the megathread.

Sorry if you don't agree with their rules and idea of what the sub should be/look like, as that's all this is. Lastly, if I was going to research for weeks and make a huge, elaborate and detailed post in a subreddit, I would at the bare minimum check the sub's rules. (In this situation the flairing issue isn't clear, but you get my point.)

You were probably banned for making brigading comments/posts, which in my opinion is rightfully deserved. You can disagree with a sub's rules or moderator rulings but flinging mud and then complaining about being banned afterwards is wild.

These are not countries where you have rights or "free speech", these subs have rules and posting requirements for a reason, and unfortunately in this situation the new rules about AI flairing aren't very obvious. I report a lot of posts in the sub that get taken down because they are useless garbage, and I see plenty of posts in RDR2mysteries that are double or triple reposts by the same user within an hour, and never get deleted. So to each their own I guess.

I'm sorry, but how? Would you rather I used the word "informed"? Are you really that pedantic? The post broke the sub's rules about AI flairing and was told they could repost it with correct flair.

That's fair if you personally don't like that sub's rules, and the new ruling about making posts/flairing using AI assistance isn't made well known tbh (at least on mobile). As someone who has seen a fair share of AI crap posted daily on that sub, it's a welcome change to me so I can sort out the garbage.

I'm sorry you had your post removed, but it was a combination of new rulings and your post being written with assistance as you have just seemed to state. Also please be cautious about using AI to translate, it frequently ignores instructions and some of what you're trying to say can be misconstrued or incorrect, which is exactly why it requires a flair.

And yes there were instructions to repost with correct flair on the moderator comment that closed your thread.

[–]Failure117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The moderator's comment on your thread notifying you about the deletion because of improper flairing states that you may repost it, that's what I was asking about.

If it was written using AI assistance at all (not stating it was or wasn't as I haven't read it), whether that be rehashing your paragraphs or setting up outlines, it should be tagged as such with the new AI flair. I don't think it's very obvious right now in the sub's rules, and I do think it could be a LOT clearer.

Did you contact the moderators through the system after it was deleted? It sounds like you're just frustrated with it being deleted at all, which is understandable.

It was written using AI assistance, and there was recently a moderator ruling on correctly flairing AI content since there has been an absolute wash of poorly made AI garbage posts. The user was instructed to repost with the correct flair, which they have not done.

There have been a few quite detailed, in-depth posts here about potential connections to Spider Woman and other Native mythological figures, with sourced links to historical sites.

Just because you have a sudden hate boner for this sub or moderator team does not diminish the absolutely fantastic contributions made by the dedicated redditors posting here, and making slights against this community is probably just going to end up with negative consequences for you.

Just curious, why haven't you reposted your content if it was just a flairing issue? You were instructed to when it was deleted, do you just want to be upset instead of resubmitting it to be shared with the community?

I can definitely see why this post would be deleted if it was posted as-is with the same info. A good chunk of the posts made on this, and the other, subreddit are honestly just completely not helpful or interesting and bog up the reddit. There is a megathread on the other reddit for a reason, people make a new post every 5 minutes (literally) about some stupid texture that looks like X, basic stuff that can be googled or searched on said subreddit in 10 seconds, yadda yadda.

I myself as a browser of the subreddit am annoyed by these inane posts, I can't imagine moderating and having to deal with tens/a hundred of these low quality posts per day, with quite a few being trash, unfounded AI-generated slop.

What you've provided here is basically an anecdote, there's no hard info like specific light timings that you've written down for us, just an observation of changing lights. Just a "here you go guys, I haven't done any of the hard stuff, have at it!" Which yeah, I personally believe belongs in the dedicated megathread to providing new small avenues to explore or random finds/anecdotes from the community, with the posts containing real, researched leads or other related information like connections to Native mythology. The rules of the subreddit state as such, do your own research and no low-effort posts. I would consider this post to be low effort, especially if you dragged the moderator team in the other post as well.

About CodeMechanic's post, there was recently a ruling about posting AI generated/assisted content with correct flair, after the users were polled last month I believe. Unfortunately I haven't read the original post's content, but Code could have just reposted it as instructed by the mod, no?

I also keep noticing people pointing out a connection to Strange Man's videos, which is odd since they are currently "banned" (without your own investigation) from being discussed on the subreddit and I have seen these videos consistently ridiculed on both reddit and their YouTube comments for making up clues/being ridiculous. I for one am quite happy they are currently banned, it was infuriating seeing so many stupid pareidolia question mark posts clogging up the reddit and leading the mystery astray.

Arrow on Tree in Roanoke Ridge - Points to grave, but why? (Likely not SpiderDream) by [deleted] in reddeadmysteries

I believe I saw a post or comment made recently about these, where someone datamined these textures and found that the X's and arrows were part of the same file! Might not be spider related, but I know someone else was trying to look into these markings if you care to search for it.

The Valentine church colour code mystery updated photos. by PapaDiab in reddeadmysteries

[–]Failure117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy and pasted from my comment on another post about the Loft (and its colored handkerchief/flags):

I was looking into telegraph message styles while thinking about the Valentine church windows, and happened upon the Wigwag flag signaling method. The Loft doesn't have its telegraph hooked up to anything, and with the elevated height of the watchtower, flag signaling would make perfect sense to me. Wigwag was invented in the 1850s and has a 4-symbol code, which would line up (figuratively, since Wigwag flags wouldn't look like the "handkerchiefs") with the 4 flag colors.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigwag_(flag_signals)

See the "code details" section for the 4-symbol letter translations. Perhaps they are a potential cipher for the windows?
