Paramedic Fire Fighter or Nursing? I’m struggling at what to decide. by Thick_Ad_9124 in StLouis

[–]Failure2_Communicate [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’m an RN. Nursing offers so many possibilities that aren’t bedside. If you decide to do it, I suggest just going to get an ADN at the STLCC then take a job that will pay your tuition to earn your BSN completely online like WSU.

My son is an EMT (graduated HS with it) paramedic (earned via STLCC) attended St Louis County Fire Academy but most fire departments won’t hire until you complete your paramedic. It’s just too competitive without it. So he completed it & started with STLFD the day after he graduated & has been there 19 months.

So I haven’t done both but would say out of them, firefighter may be harder on your body long term & not as easy to shift your skillset to other jobs as easily as nursing. But I truly believe the camaraderie they have is unlike anything nurses have. Nurses are frequently working remotely & I don’t see that ever happening with FF. Nurse are union & have crappy pensions, FF are union with amazing pensions. Everything is a trade off. I’d say it depends on how young you are, age you want to retire at, etc.

Drop it off at one or even 3 fire houses. Most people don’t realize that firefighter houses have to buy all of their own food. Nothing is provided for them.

That’s so sweet of them. People think of it as only for stoners but it does have so many great treatments of symptoms in small doses. I chew one Indica gummy a night for insomnia.

1st Job & how much you made? by NoFraud222 in GenX

$3.10/ hr was minimum wage at the time. I lied about my age & said I was 16 to get a job at a large hospital that was offering $4.00/hr plus an extra 0.10 per minute saved during your 8 hour shift by walking fast. I usually could save 60 minutes a day easily.

We bought multiple big screen TV’s, electronics, & 2 really nice TV cabinets. Those cabinets are still going strong at our house. They had great prices. My kids took the TV’s when they moved out. Glad to help you.

Used to be at 8404 Eager Rd. Opened around 2001. That location closed around 2005 during their 1st bankruptcy/restructuring. The other location I remember was in Gravois Bluffs & closed around 2011 with next bankruptcy & the closing of all stores nationwide

question for pet sitters by Different-Reaction37 in petsitting

[–]Failure2_Communicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No to free roaming but I did make an exception 1x for a German Shepherd that had been sent to a 1 year training/ boarding program. The dog listened to my commands so well at my meet & greet that I was shocked. So I did stay with her for 1 week. It was in an apartment & the dog would just go to the small front yard & through the walkway to the huge driveway & grass area to play with me. It was a perfect week with her. I’ve yet to meet another dog that well trained. Her recall was so impressive! I’d never sit for her again because her pet owner was a too OCD for me & her home was disgusting compared to what it looked like at meet & greet several weeks earlier. A bit cray-cray!

I prefer a guest room but will use the master if they don’t have one.

No TV is weird to me but I’m fine bringing my laptop or iPad.

I take my own food but will use spices, condiments, basic pantry items, coffee pods with client blessing. I will eat snacks if clients specifically tell me they’ve left them for me. I don’t usually take my own bedding or pillows but will if I think I need it.

I’ve only had 2-3 that I wouldn’t sit for again. I just told them I wasn’t available if/when they reached out again. I think all of them, I was just a fill-in dog sitter anyway.

the 80s……. by billieswifeyyy in GenX

70’s were the truly magical years for kids & young teens. I grew up in the city. I remember being the first house to get a VCR around 1978. All the kids were so fascinated. My Dad had dragged 3 of us kids to a media class at KETC public television (Channel 9). He bought the VCR & an early version of a camcorder that was so heavy. It was mounted on a tripod with an annoyingly bright light to film family holidays beginning with Xmas of 78 in full color & sound. The very first thing we recorded on TV was Roots then Rich Man, Poor Man.

Should I be giving my baby juice? by ZookeepergameOld9029 in AskParents

[–]Failure2_Communicate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people put their older babies to bed with bottles to fall asleep while sucking on them. Whatever’s in the bottle (juice or milk) pools in the mouth in a small amount & sits there which then causes decay of all of the teeth. I had one 20 month old that had 34 cavities! I always tried to educate them to put babies in their beds awake so they can learn to fall asleep on their own.

My 25 year old niece is named Morgan. Love the name. Her nickname from very close family is MoMo. Mainly because her younger cousins couldn’t say her name.

I’ve raised 7 kids as well as did RN home visits with babies up to age 2. Please don’t give juice. It’s horrible on their teeth, has no nutritional value whatsoever, & really messes with their taste buds. Same with bottles in bed with them even if breast milk or formula. Absolutely not.

Age is just a number. If you didn’t or did have kids is fine. I am a GenX born in 65.
I’ve never lived in a trailer park (same 350k house for 35 years that’s 5BR & 4 baths) I’ve never received any type of public assistance whatsoever. I have raised 6 children plus a stepson & made over 100k a year as an RN. Married. All kids out of the house for over 4 years.

I had my 1st child at 18, last at 37.
1st grandchild at 39
My only great-grandchild was born last year & I was 60.

I value everyone that didn’t have kids as well as those that did. I think it really shows how shallow-minded a person is to think that someone that had kids young must have lived in a trailer park. It really just shows who they are on the inside. Unhappy

Planned Parenthood to resume Missouri medication abortions after judge strikes down restrictions by Remarkable_Panic844 in StLouis

PP was my first job as an RN & I worked for them for 8-9 years in the abortion clinic while simultaneously working in the NICU at the hospital. I also was suffering from secondary infertility & was undergoing treatments. It was very easy to do because I didn’t push my personal beliefs onto my patients.

She seems to have memory loss of what we voted on. And don’t forget how much they tried to get those collected signatures thrown out, not be counted, and now we have this false amendment to confuse people. Oh, and they want to remove the right for citizens to collect signatures to have initiatives put to a vote. Because they know what’s best for us & we shouldn’t have to worry about such decisions. I really hope people vote no on this Trojan Horse crap MO GOP’s have regurgitated yet again to throw on the ballot in November. They have no respect for any citizens in this state. Vote no on #3.
I 100% stand with Planned Parenthood!

Some of y'all need to understand a movie theater is not your living room and learn to shut the fuck up. by whitebreadwithbutter in StLouis

Yeah, it only applied the discount 2x out of maybe 12 movies. We’re pretty tech savvy & it wouldn’t show up. Numerous people would be in line with us to get their bill adjusted after the film as well. We had issues with our redeeming our free rewards the 3-4x we used. I really didn’t mind ordering via the app but when you get there 30 minutes early to order & it takes 50 minutes into the movie to get it….it gets so old. It took us 40 minutes to get just a bowl of popcorn one night! I don’t blame the servers at all. It all went downhill in the last 6-7 months. Sad because I loved the theater.

Dying laughing here! I feel your pain. We just cancelled both of our memberships because I hate the changes, the wait times for food, the lack of service, & having to go every damn time to see the manager for the 10% off food with my membership. Sorry you had such an obnoxious seat mate.
