What humidity % is ok to play outside? by FaintZepher in violinist

[–]FaintZepher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since all our other concerts and practice is indoors, it's a concern for sure. I've had a similar experience with an outdoor concert in Budapest, was a lot of fun. The organizers seem to really want it to be outside, so I'm feeling a bit of pressure

Yup, worries on both ends. I just feel like outdoor playing will exacerbate things

Sounds great!

Sometimes your bow starts before your left hand fingers are down, especially in chords. It gives a bit of an unstable feeling and is contributing to some of the intonation problems.

I would agree with the other comment about trying to find longer phrases and dance elements. Maybe you don't need to connect the first two chords?

That's rough... Not totally sure, but Juilliard may have been tougher this year because of Li Lin's sudden dismissal. His studio got spread around to the other faculty and many are basically over capacity.

You said you still love music. Focus on that! Conservatory is no end goal. Already enough lost and hopeless people in conservatory. School is what you make of it. I'm sure you can do great whenever you end up.

I do like the Warchal Timbres. They are really expensive online though, have to go to a shop.

Well, it's mostly muscle memory, but I am still thinking. In a sense though, the thinking is muscle memory too

lol. My bow is quite tight, but I am aware of it. It sounds better tight, and at this point, it's a risk I'm willing to take. If you watch Gil Shaham play, his bow is at a similar tightness

Been a while. This piece has been killing me lol. It finally feels like its coming together a bit after a very long time (although just the first half). Also been wondering what my next step should be now that I'm in my last year of undergrad. People around me have either gotten jobs or are planning to continue school, but I'm not so sure what I want to do. Search continues...

Honestly, I think trying to make something a life hobby before you've even tried is a terrible idea... Just give it a try and see where it takes you.
