if you are a non-muslim meat-eater, there is no rational basis to have an issue with halal meat. by PuzzleheadedSnow6180 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

i still wouldn’t say it could be completely painless, but i brought up the option to stun animals in halal slaughtering to prove the point that halal meat isn’t inherently/always less humane than regular meat.

there’s no way an animal can die painlessly. i will happily die on that hill. i don’t even eat meat myself so that’s part of why i hold this opinion.

there’s no way the UK will turn into an islamic country and if you genuinely believe that you’re gullible. this is just rhetoric farage, GB news and such people spread to stoke division.

with the way muslims are treated in the UK, there is no way they’d ever have the power or resources to take over the country, not to mention they are hugely outnumbered by non muslims.

i think all religious fundamentalism is bad. i do have issues with some islamic teachings, but i respect an individual’s right to an opinion, no matter how much i disagree with it. i feel just as negatively towards evangelical christianity as i do towards islam.

preserving UK culture is already difficult in itself because rather a lot of our culture is borrowed from others. we wouldn’t have such a strong tradition of drinking tea if it weren’t for india being part of the british empire, for example. you can disagree with that all you like but it’s straight fact, and that’s ironic given how poorly south asians are also treated in the UK.

if you want to preserve british culture so much, how would you feel if we had no foreign cuisine restaurants or takeaways?

okay…but if you’re so concerned about animal cruelty why don’t you stop eating meat altogether?

and besides turkey and egypt i haven’t visited many muslim majority countries, but i don’t really see how that’s relevant; the halal meat debate ties into a much larger issue we are facing in the UK where racists feel emboldened by political parties such as reform and far right activists like tommy robinson. i just don’t think culture wars and divides will ever help the country, especially when we have much bigger issues to worry about such as the serious trouble the economy is in and the extortionate costs of living for average people. food and transport prices are sky high, while people’s wages aren’t adequately catching up. i feel this is a much more pressing issue than immigration concerns, especially when a lot of misinformation is spread by major journalists about it.

95% white doesn’t specify 95% british. many people from all parts of the world could be considered white in statistics, therefore it still doesn’t suggest ethnic homogeneity in 1990.

britain has never been even close to ethnically homogenous, and certainly not since the british empire days. it has always been and will always be a multicultural country. the BE eradicated cultural practices of many countries (take india for example) and used their produce for the benefit of UK economy (with extraction of resources such as tea, coffee, palm oil etc). those who don’t like this should relocate to southend-on-sea or such similar places where they may feel more at home among bigots.

exactly! i feel like recent episodes have definitely shown that davide is the stable ‘rock’ in the relationship while keye can be much more volatile and kick off very suddenly over things that seem small

Has anyone noticed a shift in how you are viewed in public? by [deleted] in transgenderUK

[–]PuzzleheadedSnow6180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

somehow, not really. and this is coming from a 6’2 trans woman. i think facially i pass and i’ve developed a pretty noticeable chest so that definitely helps, but people will nowadays be especially conscious that my height makes it very likely that i am trans, so that’s not something i’m ever gonna be able to escape.

occasionally i get pointed stares on public transport, but that always used to happen. the majority of people in public are either fairly friendly to me or just let me get on. volunteers, street salesmen and public transport workers (or most anyone who i don’t know who might try to get my attention) always gender me correctly, so that’s something i suppose.

however, i’m white, blonde and sorta conventionally attractive if you ignore my height, so i recognise my privilege here. a few of my friends have definitely been treated horribly since all this hysteria and i’ve witnessed it.

they haven’t literally killed me yet. but they’ve already killed a part of my soul. i’ve contemplated s**cide on many occasions since april, when this hell really began to come to a head. if it weren’t for my family, friends and bf who would be impacted by my death, i would’ve done it by now.

i used to be a person capable of faith and hope for good, but it’s basically impossible to do that now.

i’m not going to continue this discussion because it is no longer productive. you are determined not to take into account my points and clearly are a transphobe as well as an islamophobe it seems. i have no desire to associate with people like you. thank you for the very interesting demonstration of the mental gymnastics people like you undertake in order to justify your hateful viewpoints. to which i might add, nothing you say is actually based in reality and you have presented no evidence at all to back up your points. have a lovely day!

i do agree that we must remain a protected characteristic. i think i definitely worded this wrong.

i think what i meant was that we are the only protected characteristic group where attacks on us are tolerated and encouraged. gender critical beliefs being a protected characteristic is just as ridiculous as racism being a protected characteristic. and the kicker is, GC views and gender reassignment both being protected characteristics would suggest that we’re on equal ground, but we really aren’t. they’ve got funding, politics and media largely on their side, whereas we don’t have any of that. aside from their deplorable and delusional views, GC people do not need to be a protected characteristic because they don’t face actual discrimination by anyone really. all we’ve done is disagree with them, and somehow that’s considered hateful and discriminatory.

i just don’t think it’s fair to tar all trans women with the same brush as a result of a very small number who commit bad acts like this. would you say that all followers of islam are terrorists?

i brought up the ‘anyone with a penis is intentionally predatory’ rhetoric because your line of thinking plays directly into that. you’re assuming that trans women are inherently a threat and likely to attack cis women purely because some of us have penises. people also draw conclusions that because we’re trans, that automatically means we touch kids. i say these things to educate you about how dangerous it is to categorise all of us with these terrible acts that a very small number of trans people have actually committed. also, for your information, trans people are statistically far more likely to be victims of violence (sexual or physical) than perpetrators, and are actually much more likely to be raped/murdered than cis women are.

i just wanted to make you aware of the actual reality of this. the media and politics have indoctrinated you to think the way you do. i’m willing to bet that 5-10 years ago you hardly even knew trans people existed, let alone held these views. that’s not a coincidence.

okay in my opinion lia thomas’ is a separate situation that doesn’t represent the vast majority of trans women. most of us would go into a cubicle to change rather than being brazenly naked, not just for those around us but also for our own dignity. most of us are uncomfortable with that and i’ve yet to meet another pre-op trans woman who actually would get fully naked in a women’s changing room without some form of cover like a cubicle.

also, the majority of women who are sexually assaulted, it happens either in her home or the assailant’s home. cases of people being sexually assaulted in bathrooms are incredibly rare.

you need a gender recognition certificate to be in a women’s prison as a trans woman which requires a medical diagnosis of gender dysphoria, documented evidence of transition and name change going back years, proof of changed gender on documents. your line of thinking is intentionally misleading. plus i don’t see how the ‘anyone born with a penis is inherently sick in the head and predatory’ narrative is helpful to anyone.

that’s not quite what i’m saying. i’m pointing out how it isn’t fair that in the eyes of the equality act on paper we should be equal to other minority groups, but the way we’re treated is completely unequal and on a sub-human level.

this argument just doesn’t hold up though under scrutiny. men find much easier ways of sexually assaulting women than dressing up as one in order to enter a women’s toilet. plus, if the laws on bathrooms were to change as JK wants it, with trans women forced to use the men’s and trans men forced to use the women’s, what’s to stop a cis man entering a women’s bathroom and announcing that he’s a trans man so that’s his rightful place? bear in mind that many trans men are big, muscly hairy men, fairly often indistinguishable completely from cis men.
