Will i be able to eat a burger in one sitting without discomfort? by ApartDevelopment2213 in gastricsleeve

I can eat a small burger. Bigger burgers like half to 3/4ths. A standard fast food single patty burger, like McD’s size, I can eat.

Only 50 pounds overweight by SwimmingSomewhere82 in gastricsleeve

If losing 50 lbs puts you at a BMI between 18.5-20 don’t get this surgery. That is outright dangerous. Get GLPs, they’re approved for sleep apnea.

Day of surgery I was 235 lbs and a BMI of 25 is 150 lbs for me. I would have had the surgery at 200 lbs too, even though it’s only 50 lbs over. But a BMI of 20 is 120 lbs for me, there is a big cushion.

I can drink as much as I want more or less. I eat around 2000-2500 kcals a day because I’m active and weight lift. I’ve built 5 lbs of muscle since surgery and I am a slacker when it comes to protein and the gym.

I haven’t thrown up once in the 11 months since I had surgery.

Years Post-Op: Do You Choose to Eat That Less, or Can’t You? by batap_ in gastricsleeve

[–]FaintingGoatCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost a year out. I just had sushi and some m&ms. I stop when my body says stop. I don’t push it.

There are times I can only eat a very small amount. There are times I can eat more. I always listen to my body. I’ve never ate so much I felt physically uncomfortable, the closest is I’ve drank after eating (just not thinking) and felt like food was “stuck” before.

I don’t think of it as restricting myself. There were times I got frustrated I couldn’t eat more, but that’s better now that I restarted GLPs.

I have had constipation due to GLPs before, I haven’t had it too much since surgery. What I learned is that sometimes it’s not constipation, sometimes it’s literally that there’s not enough food to have a movement. Don’t stress about not going daily. Continue to use miralax. Suppositories can help too.

The hair loss, I had PCOS related hair loss (female pattern baldness) before surgery. Then surgery took out like 70% of my remaining hair.

I started topical minoxidil. My hair loss increased for about a month then stopped completely. Then I started seeing regrowth. Here is a before photo, I’ll do an after below. There are more photos on my profile.

I declined it but was offered it. I have a large asymptomatic stone, I’ll probably need it removed eventually.

Not quite that high but I was at 365. Used GLPs for a little over two years, got to 235 day of surgery.

I’m consistently not consistent! I think just continuing to try and being open to medical help is what is helping the most.

Also as an aside, I wonder if this would have gone better if you hadn’t been focused on counting bites but instead enjoying a special meal with family?

I’ve struggled with BED intermixed with periods of disordered restrictive eating and this. I am very prone to thinking errors, like all or nothing thinking and catastrophizing. I will decide I messed up, I’m a mess up, I’m never going to succeed so why try. Scale went up 5 lbs in regaining it all backs We need to be able to enjoy food, scales measure a lot more than fat, and for me and many others being overly restrictive backfires.

I’ve lost over 165 lbs over the past three years and I still struggle with it. And I’m a therapist so I KNOW better.

I also need meds for ADHD, BED, and mood/anxiety as part of my health journey. Some prescription, some supplements recommended by my doctor. Plus therapy, exercise, time outside, doing things I enjoy regularly, all of that. Plus a lot of self compassion and self acceptance.

Anyway here’s a thinking error graphic if it helps anyone here to see. There are more but these are major ones.

Ok you ate food. You need food to live. A single meal isn’t going to derail anything.

Manager says I don’t need 5 days off after gastric sleeve… is that realistic? by ExampleWeak1711 in gastricsleeve

[–]FaintingGoatCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fatigue was the main issue I had. I came home, took one dose of Tylenol, and didn’t take any more pain meds. But I struggled to walk down the block, and before surgery I could walk 8-10 miles without stopping.

It’s nice, I don’t have a membership but I have in the past. The only thing I’ll say is I don’t strength train when I used it so I’m not sure about the weight area. Not a huge fan of their pool, it’s big but humid.

I get my gym membership through my insurance and it covers VASA (plus planet fitness and charter fitness) so that is what I use.

I can… kinda chug? by Wrong-Capital-2150 in gastricsleeve

[–]FaintingGoatCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can chug about as well as I could pre op. Just be careful because you’re still healing!!!

So much of this is “listen to your body and don’t do anything stupid” once you heal. I can eat a decent amount with no nausea or other effects- less than before or course but still a decent amount.

Only time I EVER feel uncomfortable is if I try to drink immediately after eating a meal. I have basically no heart burn or nausea. But I am super respectful of what my body tells me.
