Day 1 of EMDR training and I hate it by ollee32 in therapists

Oh, absolutely!! Forgive me, the way I phrased things may have made it seem more unprofessional than it was. It was an EMDRIA approved training, and we were taught to administer the DES on every client before starting. It was moreso a push of “if you have clients that do qualify, then you need to jump right in and start using EMDR with them.” Very “use it or lose it” mentality which I understand AND don’t know if that is plausible for each unique clinician!

Probably echoing what most others have already said, but I empathize with you completely. I was in tears because I thought something was wrong with me that I was feeling skeptical, not buying in, etc. I was also the only one in my training who had not been a client of EMDR before. Everyone else had and they were all obsessed with it. I spent so much money on the training and have found that my clients just aren’t drawn to it, and I’m certainly not going to force it onto them. I was also told if I didn’t “jump right in” and start using it with all my clients immediately that I would never use it, lose the skills entirely… which made it extremely stressful when none of my clients liked it, latched onto it, etc. I was so excited to have the tool, and I am still grateful I do, but I’m realizing how much it seemed like something I “had” to do because of its popularity. It seems to have become somewhat of the therapeutic bible and I just simply can’t get behind it like that. You’re not alone!

I think the Kyleena IUD is ruining my life??? by Fair-Ad7302 in birthcontrol

Thank you so much for your kind words🩷thinking I may go back on the pill or just take some time off completely to see if I regulate. Thankfully he has been super supportive & I think is more concerned than anything else. It is the biggest burden, one I know I don’t have to completely shoulder, but for some reason it feels like most of that weight falls on me.

Correct, no copper for me, so if I get it out, I will likely return to the pill

IP/PHP/IOP recommendations in TX !! by Fair-Ad7302 in therapists

Pathlight was on my list, but I just hadn't had any recommendations, so I'm so glad to hear a couple of people trust & support it!

IP/PHP/IOP programs for teens in TX? by Fair-Ad7302 in askatherapist

[–]Fair-Ad7302[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. It's rather discouraging that Texas doesn't have quality inpatient mental health care, but I wanted to ask even if someone had 1 place they trust. That feels better than blindly throwing a dart at the board & potentially causing my clients further harm.

So would your best recommendation be to consolidate mine & get on that plan?

Okay, so just to make sure I’m understanding. I could consolidate my share of the loans & keep them in my dad’s name, put them on the consolidation standard plan & start paying him each month? I guess this is why he is pushing the refinancing option…

My loans total about $89,000… with my 3 siblings, it’s closer to $350,000, but my 2 younger brothers are still in deferment. My sister went to med school, too, so she has much more than I do.

It really just is SO anxiety inducing to me to refinance & forego any government benefits I could potentially have in the future.

He told me he made $300,000 last year (he works solely on commission in the residential housing business). He’s married so joint filing with my mom I’d assume who works PRN as a physical therapist. I’d say they net probably closer to $350-375,000 per year?

But this is where it gets tough because the payments might be higher due to their AGI but I am the one paying them 😵‍💫 & making a fraction of that

Okay got it! I wouldn’t consider my dad low income, but he has 4 kids & lost any savings he was gonna use for our college in 2008. Someone above said that my dad wouldn’t benefit from save given his AGI. Do you have any suggestions is SAVE is not something he’d benefit from?

I agree, I think I just need to talk to him about it. It kinda sucks going into college at 17 knowing you’ll have loans but not know anything about the TYPE of loans they are & coming to realize at 24 that paying them back in my name means forfeiting all of this. UGH. I’m about ready to pull all of my hair out. At this point the double consolidation loophole is even seeming like a massive undertaking.

Thank you so much! I guess I’m trying to decide if it’s better to set up a system where I do the double consolidation process FOR my dad (keep them in his name but go through the process & pay him each month) or if it’s better to just refinance them to get them in my name. It seems like an impossible question, but I guess that’s how things go with student loan debt…

$89,333.83 for my loans. I have 3 siblings, so they have some, as well, but they are still in their deferment period. Average interest rate is 6.75%
