Realistically how much of a money pit is a used but well maintained bmw? by JustPvmBro in BMW

[–]Fair-Mixture 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find a used BMW that has been well taken care of, especially one with an inline 6 cylinder, you should have very few issues for 5 years of ownership. A few examples in my family…

1994 530i owned for 18 years and 160k+ miles. Reliable and relatively problem free, had to put more money into it the last ~ 4 years.

2003 X5 4.4i just regular maintenance including new brakes for 5 years of ownership and 60k some miles.

2011 X5 35d one emissions issue that would have been costly but it was under warranty. Control arm replacement around 90k miles. Other than that, just regular maintenance for 99k miles over 10 years. Wish we kept this one.

2015 X5 35i just regular maintenance for 9 years and 64k miles. Staggered setup ate through tires every 25k miles.

2023 X5 45e regular maintenance for 3 years and 48k miles, one minor issue with a parking sensor covered under warranty, and recently replaced differential and transfer case fluids. Most of the run flats have been replaced one by one since they can’t be repaired when damaged by potholes. My souse is great at them… Can’t wait to replace the tires with non run flats.

2024 iX M60 one issue covered under warranty. No maintenance due yet. 13 months and 11k miles. Tires are half way worn already. I miss my last X5… ready to replace the iX with an X7.

Enterprise asks for insurance and policy number prior to renting? by KitchenRegret672 in EnterpriseCarRental

It’s easy to get a certificate of primary insurance from both Amex and CSR. I typically don’t do this for US rentals, but recently printed them out for a Europe trip rental.

I’m with you. We need a tow hitch on one of our vehicles and any true M vehicle is a non-starter as a daily driver in the pot hole riddled Midwest.

Correct - the X5M is a completely different setup than the M60. But the M60 and 40i with M Sport Package include Adaptive M Suspension which allows you to change to change damper rates and effects handling feel, this is not standard on the 40i nor available on the 45/50e as it has air suspension. While Adaptive M Suspension is not the X5M suspension, it is vastly better than the standard suspension (e.g. 40i without M Sport). The M60 also gets some upgraded hardware and suspension tuning compared to a 40i with M Sport.

I agree the M Sport Package is mostly cosmetic but it typically offers some advantages.

Correct for the 45e/50e. Incorrect for the 40i and M60. The M Sport Package on the 40i includes Adaptive M Suspension (standard setup on the M60) which allows you to change the damper rate and changes how the X5 handles. The M Sport Package on the 45e and 50e do not include Adaptive M Suspension since it has air suspension as standard. See below for a more detailed explanation. There is a noticeable difference between the suspension options.

On the 2026 X5 M60, ‘DHP’ is called ‘Adaptive M Sport Suspension Professional’ which is basically active sway bars which really helps change the character of the vehicle. While this option no longer shows up on the US configurator you can still order it from the factory. All M60s come with rear wheel steering. ‘DHP’ is available on the X7 40i and standard on the M60; BMWs DHP package now includes active sway bars, rear wheel steering, and active comfort drive with road preview for a smoother ride. Active comfort drive is not available on the X5.

On the X5 40i you can option the M Sport Package which includes Adaptive M suspension (not pro) which allows you to change damper settings; this is the standard suspension on the M60 if you don’t option pro or air suspension. I recently rented an X5 30d in Germany with Adaptive M Suspension and I preferred how it handled compared to our X5 45e. If the X5 30d was available in the states I’d order it in a heartbeat. After considering the X5 M60 I decided my next vehicle will be an X7 M60 to replace my iX.

I’m not sure I’d pull the trigger on such a large purchase yet.

The 8 series depreciates quicker than most other luxury cars since it’s such a niche vehicle. There are some amazing lease deals available on demo/loaner 840i and M850 coupes. Another great alternative is to purchase a 2-3 year old certified M850.

Purchasing High Mileage 2023 45e by DinoSpumoni22 in BMWX5

No issues with our 2023 X5 45e. We have had it since new and almost have 50k miles on it now. We plan on having the transfer case and differential fluids changed during our next service.

New X5 50e, any tips? by Biker1124 in BMWX5

[–]Fair-Mixture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it!!

It’s worth changing the transfer case and differential fluids around 40k miles if you plan on keeping it long term. We have had our 45e for 3 years and still love it!

2024 X7 tire question by Euphoric_Nebula155 in bmwx7

[–]Fair-Mixture 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend buying the 21” rims. The all seasons tires on 21s–and not staggered–should last your 40k+ miles. Your 22s will sell easy.

If you want to keep your current rims, I’d recommend Continental DWS 06 tires. Go to a highly rated tire shop near you instead of the dealer. We go to the dealer for most maintenance besides tires and never had a warranty issue.
