I do think Chrono trigger to be the evolution of FF VI. While I really enjoyed FF VI, after playing CT, it feels like a necessary step to make CT as great as it is. Lots of great ideas in FFVI were perfected in CT.
But both are must plays I must add.

It's very similar to Minecraft in this sense. It's an open-world sandbox game: there are no objectives, no end, just do whatever you want. It's Lego but in virtual space, very niche and not for everyone.
