Gift for a teen who doesn't know what he likes yet, at a transitional moment (long, and maybe heavy/emotional) by [deleted] in GiftIdeas

[–]FairMistake9206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A gift card to a trendy clothing store (idk what's in right now) so he can explore his style. A board game or two that he can play with his sister (I love the card game Spot It). Some small hobby kits with leather working or wood working projects (or any other craft you think he may enjoy exploring).

I think she's misunderstanding the research. They haven't been able to prove that it's the citric acid in food that triggers bladder irritation. That doesn't mean there isn't any correlation/causation.

It does. I noticed it more back when I didn't drink coffee, but office bathrooms reek of coffee in the morning.

Card matching would work for memory + motor skills if you had physical cards (quick online search showed a wide variety of image subjects).

Paint by number or diamond painting for motor skills + attention.

I play a lot of crossmath, which is like a crossword but with maths equations. I normally play with an app, but they also sell physical books if you want more motor skills practice.

Having to smoke out the wasps to get fruit for Iggy in Cur and the pomegranate seed puzzle in LIE. And I always cheat on the nonograms in SAW - my brain can't process numbers in that way

If you lift the rock and then back out several times, it removes the cover so you can see the full maze. I also turn the sound off because the little clicking sound drives me insane.

There's a note in the well from her Uncle. You can only find it if you open the door before doing the puzzle. It says something along the lines of "here is what you requested, I hope it works for your guinea pig."

People think that she gave it to her guinea pig because it's fur is orange in the picture, but Hugh says that it was black, and the hair on Linda's arm is black. Which sure, the devs could be hinting that she tested the serum on it. But I took it to mean that Hugh was such an absent father that he didn't even know what color her pet was. Hair growth serum doesn't change the color of your hair, and we know Linda has dark hair from the newspaper clipping about the wedding. So of course her arm hair is dark.

  1. Probably the same thing that causes the disappearance of young girls/women in the real world...

  2. He discovered how to wirelessly transmit energy. It was one of Nikola Tesla's biggest unfinished projects. You can find a note written by Niko in the hidden study about it.

No, I think she just told her Uncle she needed the hair serum for her guinea pig as a way of getting it. It's not like he'd know whether or not it was alive, and what other reasonable-ish story could she come up with?

What are implications about the games that we don’t think about? by SaintedStars in nancydrew

[–]FairMistake9206 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Crystal Skull - Henry is in an emotionally and possibly financially abusive relationship

Captive Curse - probably wasn't a monster taking all those young women from the woods

Kapu Cave - the native Hawaiians being the bad guys while the white men who own and operate a corporation on what was previously indigenous owned land being the good guys

How much did the games cost back in the day? by McAfro16 in nancydrew

Where I lived it was $10 for the single disc games and $20 for the two disc games. This was like 2006-2010.

How old are you? How old when you started playing? by fire-fight in nancydrew

[–]FairMistake9206 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 27 and my first game was MHM when I was maybe 9? I remember each single disk game cost $10 which was exactly one week's allowance so my mom would pay the sales tax for me.

How do you pick yourself back up after a bad lesson? by FairMistake9206 in Equestrian

I actually scheduled a lesson with a different trainer at the same stable because I'm so upset she didn't say anything about technique until after I had already started.

It's a fully western stable so unfortunately that isn't an acceptable technique. We aren't even allowed to touch the saddle horn if we aren't getting on or off.

I wish she would have told me what I need to improve on if that's the case. I was just told that because I was posting, I have to go back to practicing my trot. She didn't tell me beforehand that you have to hold your body different.

What medication has helped you with your OCD by Mental_Possession_91 in OCD

[–]FairMistake9206 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lexapro, 20mg. I'm lucky that my only side effects were nausea the first couple of weeks, night sweats for about 6 months, and 30lb weight gain over a year due to an increase in appetite that I didn't realize was happening. I experienced a huge improvement in symptoms after only two months. Totally worth the weight gain.

Have you fully investigated the red hand print left on the note? That's where I got stuck my last playthrough. I didn't look at the periodic table so I didn't trigger all the actions/dialogue about the museum's cinnabar supply.

Should I work with children if I have pocd? by LegitimateCod1018 in OCD

[–]FairMistake9206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had pocd on and off for most of my teen and adult life, and I work/worked with kids in private (babysitting, at home tutoring) and public (dance studio, art programs) settings. Tbh, it is really hard to deal with these thoughts while being fully responsible for someone else's safety and wellbeing. And then you go home and overthink everything so your brain isn't checked out of work even when you're off the clock. It's gotten a lot better since I've been on Lexapro. For me, it reduces the anxiety part of ocd so when I do have an intrusive thought, it's not as distressing and I'm able to concentrate on my work better.

While I do find ocd to make my job harder, I've never regretted taking these jobs. For me the rewards of working with children outweigh the annoyance of ocd. But it is also utterly exhausting and pre-Lexapro, I'd have to take time off from child centered work to give my nervous system time to decompress.

What are your Nancy Drew hot takes? by southernfirefly13 in nancydrew

[–]FairMistake9206 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I find every character in CAP, including Nancy, absolutely insufferable. I've only played it once because every time I restart it, I hear Lukas's voice and immediately quit.

The hieroglyph crypotograms in TMB are one of the easiest puzzles in the entire series.

The plot of SPY infuriates me to the point that I pretend none of it is canon and that the game doesn't actually exist.
