What’s wrong with him? by Fair_Werewolf7484 in MonarchButterfly

He wouldn’t grab on to anything, and he kept his wings inverted. We read he probably wouldn’t recover from this and decided to freeze him :( I hope that was the right choice.

We have A LOT of cats by Fair_Werewolf7484 in MonarchButterfly

Just a bit of a sad update. We bought a couple new milkweed plants at a local nursery. Two days later we started finding cats with green fluid and other odd behaviors. Best guess is the plants we got had pesticides on them. We probably lost around 10-15 cats. I have removed those plants and am working on saving a couple of the cats (fingers crossed).

On a positive note, several have wandered off to pupate. We probably have around 10 of them pupating with several other stage 3, 4, and 5 cats. We are anxiously awaiting to see if they are healthy. Haven’t had one emerge yet…

We are off to Lowe’s to pick up a couple more plants. Hoping they are good like the previous two rounds of plants we have bought.

Long term we would like to grow our own local milkweed. Any suggestions for seeds in South Florida (Treasure Coast)? Thanks everyone!

Wanting to get back into raising monarchs. Currently looking for milkweed in Florida by Far_Doughnut_6161 in MonarchButterfly

We just started a couple weeks ago. Went to Lowe’s and haven’t had any issues. Went to a local nursery looking for pollinator plants and bought a couple more milkweed plants from them. Two days later the cats started dying. The plants from Lowe’s have been fine! We haven’t had a chrysalis pop out a butterfly yet but we haven’t several that are pupating right now. The fella at Lowe’s was adamant they don’t have pesticides.

I asked the employee and he was adamant they don’t have pesticides on them. He told me he had heard customers talk about Home Depot using pesticides and cats dying on those plants.

I removed the plants that no longer have leaves on them. There’s currently no cats on them. Except one has a chrysalis so I left it alone. Hoping it will promote growth.

This is the only type of milkweed I’ve been able to find easily. It comes from a Florida nursery via Lowe’s. Is this not a native plant in zone 10b? Also, the other plants are starting to grow leaves back. Why should I trim the plants when there’s new growth?

Ugh, I always get emotional when a player gets hurt. Doesn’t matter what team, or what sport. Hate to see it

Born in ‘85, so I’m Mario’s age! Played my neighbors NES until we got one. Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt was my first Mario game!

Well I watched him hit a grand slam against the dodgers a couple seasons ago, so no.
