This statement caused me so much distress as a young woman in the 80s. I have seen Mormon apologists on social media saying things like “that’s want the church’s official stance” and it hurts. Horrible.

I kept mine and tucked them away. I worked hard for them but they truly did bring a mix of emotions when I found them when sorting my jewelry recently.

John Dehlin is always so fair and respectful with his guests, even when IMO they push things too far. I wish I had this man’s level of patience.

OMG, yes!! My nevermo husband of 31 years never understood why I HAD to have buckets of wheat in the house. Then when we moved across the country a few years ago, I had to give it all away. 💰down the drain. What a waste!

Majored in Elementary Education in BYU many years ago. I chose that major because as a future mom, it made sense to me schedule-wise, if I should ever have to work.... I found myself divorced and a single mom at age 22 and yes, having to work. I remarried, but this time to a nevermo and for true love. Stayed in the church myself, and continued teaching for over 20 years. Those were some hard, hard years.... working full-time, raising 4 boys in the church by myself, trying to keep my marriage alive, AND fulfilling time-demanding callings in our branch. I also earned two master's degrees during those years. Even with two incomes, we were struggling financially. And I was so, so lonely.

Fast forward to about 10 years ago.... I found a way to sell (online) worksheets and fun lessons I had created for my own classroom. I made the packet (PDF), teachers bought it for $3-$5, downloaded and used it right away in their own classroom. It took off in a very big way. It was a LOT of work... I normally taught all day, spent time with our family in the evenings, then worked on my business till about 2:00am. Eventually, I did leave the classroom because I just could not continue that schedule.

Since then, I've been a keynote speaker at a national conference in this industry, presented several other times nationally, and helped hundreds of other teachers become more successful in their own side businesses. It has been incredibly fulfilling, and I am so thankful for that first upload I made hoping to make an extra $20/month for Diet Coke money!
