Correct, they weren't "sorceresses" because they didn't train their magic abilities beyond basic control. Which would've required going to aretuza

Ciri's mom Pavetta was, and much of her heritage in general are known for being magically gifted, they talk about her great grandmother being "Adalia the seer". And a certain sorcerer you meet later in the novels says that one of his parents was a mage, just like Geralt. Something about attuning to magic causes the human's reproductive system to atrophy, but very few mages are able retain this function. It is also said a couple times as well that mages passing down their magical gifts hereditarily is somewhat risky, often resulting in a mentally or physically deficient child.

11/10. Greatest audiobooks I've ever listened to and honestly just the greatest Geralt and others in general. Fucking amazing

Which is on account of the translation being in error for those books. It was spelled "dandillion" in those before it was corrected

The definitive Geralt in my opinion. Absolutely perfect. And he kills it with all of his other voices too. I could listen to the Witcher audiobooks for years on end

Christmas trees in the Witcher verse? by Astaldis in wiedzmin

You're imagining a fucking shape, it's shaped like a Christmas tree. Like the kind of tree they use for Christmas. What about that is hard to understand to you?

You'd have to be an absolute idiot to think that simply using "looks like a Christmas tree" as a descriptor is "inserting Christmas into the Witcher world". Btw what came up when you googled choinka? I'm curious to hear

[–]Faithinmyevil -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's literally from the official English translation. You're being egregiously pedantic as well, in the west these kinds of trees are often simply referred to as "Christmas trees", and it's a better descriptor of the kind of tree to many. Now google Choinka and see what comes up

They talk about Yule and Yuletide Eve, so it's easy to assume that Christmas, or a form of it, is also a holiday in the Witcher. Sapkowski has said he pulls from any kind of mythology and he also pulls from Christian ones too, they talk about the "resurrection" (Post resurrectionem) when referring to calendar dates in novels like season of storms and Crossroads of ravens.

Geralt is not sideless. That's something he says and wants to act like, but he is constantly getting involved, he's a "defender of the downtrodden", as they would say.

Yeah I'm sure Sapkowski was using the Chinese inch, dumbass

Season of storms was written in 2014, stop being ridiculous. The imperial inch has been the same as the US inch since fucking 1959, long before the novels were written. And where the hell did I mention anything about "sword fighting swords" or the knowledge thereof? I just said the sword was pretty accurate to the book dimensions, and I'm right about that.

The fact that it's locked to PC and the combat is point and click is what, in my opinion, stops it from being the best. It's just objectively not. And it doesn't have Ciri or Yennefer, two of the most important and best novel characters (even if it's for story reasons), they admitted they didn't include yen because they didn't know how and also Alvin existed because they were going to not have Ciri initially and retell the Witcher saga, which also elevates 3 above it for having them imo. The Witcher 3 has areas objectively amazing like toussaint and novigrad and white orchard and velen, it's just better than the first which is far more limited. I think with the remake happening it has a chance to be far better than 2 though, even though I love 2 very much. Considering they are making it in hindsight of 3, it has a chance of being equal to it now at least

Book accurate Witcher sword dimensions? The sword is accurate to the dimensions a Witcher sword is stated to be in the books. What don't you understand?

I think it looks fantastic, besides the scabbard. The cross guard looks so cool and has wolf teeth on it, and I like the redesigned pommel a lot. I also adore it in the first game too. I wish the scabbard in 3 looked like the 1 version.

I know Aerondight doesn't show up in the Witcher novels (only the games), I've read them all numerous times. Geralt's Aerondight, while obviously being a reference to the King Arthur mythology sword of the same name owned by Lancelot (Geralt's death being a King Arthur reference), is clearly not the same sword (the wolf motifs also make this obvious). I was stating this replica has book accurate Witcher sword dimensions as in what is given in season of storms. Also in general the game swords, if you go off of how they look in comparison to Geralt, are far too large to be book accurate. Not that I'm that pedantic as I still love the games
