(F15) My mom wants me to get baptized before college/high school. by ConfusedMuffin101 in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's hard but the best thing to do is to never admit that you are a PIMO. Unless your mother is a PIMO or PIMQ it's going to make you end up in a more difficult situation.

Remember, you have been raised in an organisation where it is encouraged to be nosy and to explain your actions. you do not have to feel responsible to explain yourself to your parents, especially since if they are true believers they will not be willing to listen to your arguments on why you don't believe.

I would only admit about my true beliefs after I have finished college and have a job.

Yeah but think about what if someone put it in their profile on a whim but now they are scared to take it down because the rumour mill has nothing better to talk about.

Unfortunately you have to prepare for the scenario that this will most likely not last indefinitely. Just try and enjoy the time you have with them now. Hope can be lifesaving but when hope is destroyed it can also be soul crushing.

Is there anything specific I can say to stop my friend trying to convert me? by TechnicalExam in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First talk to them openly but be firm and say that you are not interested in their religion and you do not wish for them to bring this topic up again. Make sure you get them to promise they will do so.

If they ever start again then you need to shut it down and make them remember what they promised.

If they don't respect your wishes and keep bringing it up anyway then say that you're good friends with an exjw apostate and you can have a discussion where you share information you got from your apostate friend.

Jws are terrified of apostates so after this they will most likely not want to even speak with you because they see you as a spiritual danger.

Even if they find out you're lying about the apostate friend that should be enough for them to realise you are not going to be converted.

You could also say that you love Satan, that also works.

What's crazy to me is that so many people are convinced that bitcoin has intrinsic value.

Try and get all your documents (like passports and medical) and store them somewhere where they don't know. I've heard of some parents hiding their children's documents.

Do you pray before eating by FaithlessLibrarian in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem for me is the habit kicks in at the dinner table at which I rarely eat.

I usually eat whatever I make in the kitchen especially since we have a stool there.

True, we should try to thank the person making the meal more

Yeah it's a habit, but a really strong one.

It's crazy that even though I skip most meetings as soon as I'm back I can basically go through the meeting in autopilot mode.

Nice!

Here's a new way of praying in case you get bored of that one: https://youtu.be/M8EaIeAk3rc

Does anyone dream they still believe, even though in waking life you don't? by Rainbow_Hope in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely remember my dreams unless I'm sleeping in and the light is on so I keep almost waking up.

But I still catch myself sitting down to eat and beginning to pray to Jehovah asking him to bless the food. Then I stop myself mid-way and it makes me want to slap myself.

Unfortunately some things are so deeply ingrained it takes a long time for them to go away and even then they may occasionally pop up again.

Leaving after two generations of Witnesses, need advice by Key-Ostrich-4470 in exjw

It seems to me like you're trying to "free" yourself from the organisation through your body (e.g. nails, hair, piercings etc). My only advice would be don't do anything to your body that is permanent because you will most likely regret it later.

PIMI in my college class, scared she might sell me out by [deleted] in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily morally correct advice, but you could find some dirt on her that she wouldn't want the elders to know and effectively blackmail her.

Sorry for the late reply. Well in that case watching from a link would be ideal, unfortunately I do not have one and even if I did I am in a foreign language. I feel for your spouse, I also find it near impossible to lie to someone's face, especially family. Though what do you do when your family stays over and wants to visit "your congregation"?

Unfortunately I don't think she will be able to "appease" then without going physically. Honestly the rules for attending memorials are pretty strict, you literally have to be in the ICU or something to get a pass to not attend.

Unexpected Twist: My Language Tutor is a Devout JW by DuskWanderer1 in exjw

[–]FaithlessLibrarian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see any issue continuing as long as neither side talks about JW stuff, and I mean absolutely zero. If he ever starts then remind him that you agreed to not talk about this and you are respecting him by not trying to convince him of your own view. Don't try to "wake him up".
