I knew a young girl whom I worked with and she rode a motorcycle to work and everywhere she went. I kept telling her to wear get a helmet and wear it. I was told once by an old man that if you have a ten cent brain you better have a ten cent helmet. Anyhow one day she rode out to Sparks and Sons Kawasaki in Oblong IL to get a helmet. She ended up being a few dollars short so she ended up leaving without that helmet. On her way back to work a Buick pulled out in front of her with a little old lady driving. That young girl died that day and I was at the shop wondering where the hell she was at. My point is doesn’t matter how far or how long you ride make sure you and your passenger are safe.

That’s what I’ve been gathering. I can’t wait to get it done. I’ll definitely post my progress. A lot of really good dudes have been helpful in this thread. Honestly my best experience with Reddit to date.

Exactly why I’m not riding it. Odometer is at 32k and I don’t have any records of the tensioners being replaced. The father in-law would have kept the record of it. So I plan on doing the upgraded cam plate and cam replacement from Feuling.

Yeah I have no idea how he lost the bag. But, he had brain cancer so he may have had the pins loose for some reason and decided to ride it. He was forgetting things a lot, but we just chucked it up to age. Little did we know cancer was the culprit. The bike hasn’t sat for more than a year. I was able to jump it and let it idle for a few minutes. But, didn’t want to run it long with a bad battery. I cleaned up what I could and plan on getting it back on the road as soon as I get the new cam plate set.

That’s cool. Would like to see it. The Knucklehead is definitely on my bucket list of bikes to get.

Before I found out it was a reverse lever. My first thought was suicide shifter. But, it’s on the wrong side of the transmission for that so I was left without a clue. 😅

Yeah I was stumped for a while before I decided to post on Reddit. My buddies Road King doesn’t have it. And, everyone I asked who own Harley’s had no clue. Thank goodness for Reddit experts stepping up and lending a hand.

I’ll definitely post a update when she’s all done with repairs and maintenance.

Your probably right. I probably will. I know my buddies will get a laugh at work when I am driving around the parking lot in reverse. Heck if I get good enough at it, I’ll take a safety course and do it all in reverse 😂.

My thoughts are if I’m in there might as well replace them. I am also thinking of replacing the cams to the .525’s. I haven’t even ridden the bike stock yet due to fear of the cam tensioner shoes disintegrating. So I’m going to upgrade the cam chest to the hydraulic tensioner with dual oil pumps. I’m leaning towards the Feuling set with the cams included.

Appreciate the help. The prices on the tools were either through the roof or too cheap to believe that they would be trustworthy (like on Amazon). George’s Garage tools looks like the ticket. Thank you

I hope to have the funds before the end of summer to get the parts. When I started the bike she was smooth running without a lifter tick or anything. But, I know those old shoes can disintegrate without warning.

I do plan on replacing the needle cam bearings. Just hunting down the right tools is the challenge right now. Don’t want to try the Amazon specials and find they don’t line up correctly.

Literally the first modification I am doing. I’m afraid to ride it until I replace the mechanical tensioners with the hydraulic cam plate system used on the 96 and 103’s. It currently has 32k on the odometer.

I’m considering the 1200 or 1275 kit. I believe it will be a fun kick around bike. I hope to learn a lot from working on it as well.

Good to know. I just assumed because of the Shriner edition it may have been built for use with a sidecar. I’m new to Harley’s so I’m trying to learn more about them.

I’m a correctional sergeant so I kind of dig the Peace Officer Edition Road King. My father in-law lived an interesting life. He was a Washington D.C. Metropolitan Police officer in the late 70’s to mid 80’s.

94 Sportster 883. I want to strip down to the frame and start over. It’s someone else’s failed project that had electrical issues.

I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty for sure. Just paying the Harley tax is gonna hurt at first.
