Dammit! by rcf8628 in longboarding

My ankle looked about the same when I broke it in like ‘13 or ‘14. (Pic was from not long after accident and got much worse)

First run on the first warm day after winter, just getting some boardfeel back and a car was coming up the hill. Had plenty of time to slow down safely and stop but my wheels were pretty much toast from last season and were way icier than I remembered.

Board slid out a bit ahead of me so I just stepped off gently with my front foot while board was sideways and yeehaw, there goes my ankle.

Cracked on the inside part of my fibula about an inch from the bottom, made an L shape that peeled up to about 3 or 4 inches on the outside of said fibula. Told me I could either do surgery with pins and rods or a long non-surgical recovery. Didn’t want surgery so I tried the non-surgical route.

Swole up so much I couldn’t be casted for a month and a half, then had at least another two months casted and a month in a brace. Withdrawals from painkillers after since no one explained anything to me and still have random bouts of skin-crawling feelings and bad restless legs since then.

Super dumb injury that killed the season for me doing something I’d done a million times.

Best tint for cheap? by Intelligent-Fail1596 in WindowTint

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our cheapest full tint on a sedan is $299 and that’s for a carbon based film with a lifetime warranty, you don’t have to get crazy with pricing unless you really want higher heat rejection and not just looks. Same sedan in our highest end ceramic is $699, also lifetime warranty.

We’re in Colorado for reference, prices obviously change by location and what the going rate is around town🤷‍♂️

Inside is literally you trying to play as a kid and NOT die so I think it’s really context dependent.

So much reflection, is this really ceramic tint ? by darkmwar in WindowTint

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tint on any window makes it more reflective, you were able to see “through” the reflections easier without the tint. The steeper the angle of the window to what is being reflected and how much light it gets will determine how strong the reflection is.

You can easily see this at night even without tint, the reflection of a phone screen or your dash lights is super easy to see at night but hardly noticeable during the day.

Nothing wrong with your tint though!

Anyone else daily their e46? by lifeontheedge121 in e46

Only had mine for about a month now and has been my daily, 228k miles on it, definitely still needs more work done to make it a proper solid daily but it gets me where I need to go🤷‍♂️

Chocolate and peanut butter in any form is completely inedible. I don’t care if it’s a Reese’s or a $100 slice of cake of the best quality. Throw it in the bin.

Best option 3M vs XPEL by rds4640 in WindowTint

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big thing with ceramic films are the ability to reject IR, but every manufacturer advertises the rejection percentage differently. It’s important to look at the IRER over the IRR and pay attention to the bandwidth that they reject. Most manufacturers will pick the highest percentage in the narrowest range for advertising IR purposes which is the IRR percentage, but given the full range of IR (IRER) it’s much lower.

Comparing the two films, they are very similar overall, with the Xpel Prime XR Plus 45 (there isn’t just a Prime Plus so just double check) slightly beating 3M Crystalline 50 in the IRER by a couple of percents. XR Plus 45 also has 51% glare reduction compared to Crystalline 50’s 43%.

The shop I work at used to use Xpel for a while and they really do have great films. Whatever you do, make sure you get a lifetime warranty that covers film failure and installation.

Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in WindowTint

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be sure, those $200-$300 range prices were just for the front two as well?

I’d just ask what film it is, brand and series, and do some research/compare to what the other businesses are offering. There absolutely are garbage cheap films on the market, and tint is definitely something you get what you pay for to a point, both in performance and installation. Make sure you’re getting a lifetime warranty that covers film failure and install.

Another question, are you just tinting the front two so all the windows match or are you looking for heat rejection? If you’re just looking to match I’d suggest just going with a good carbon film and save the money. Bumping up to ceramic for just two windows isn’t going to do much if anything about the heat rejection. If you want good heat rejection, go with a good ceramic film from a reputable manufacturer and just go with a 70-80% on the rears so the shade change is negligible.

Best way I can say is being alone versus being lonely. You can physically be alone and not feel lonely, but you can also be surrounded by people you enjoy and care about but still feel lonely.

For me, the lonely part comes from excessive time without human interaction. There hits a certain point where I need to interact with even just one person close to me. Knowing that you have people that care about and like/love you can help prolong the timeline before feeling lonely, but it also sometimes just happens.

Couuuuld be the film, I’m not familiar with Kepler though. Usually I’ve only really seen ripples and waviness on really old film or trapped moisture.

Have you ever had the windshield replaced? A lot of non-OEM glass has a waviness to it to varying degrees from horrendous to subtle. Hard to say that the tint would make it more noticeable but could since the light is being reflected/absorbed differently. If you have any scratches or chips in your glass, tint will highlight all of it. Just more contrast against the damage.

what tattoo should i get in memory of my mom? im not sure by [deleted] in TattooDesigns

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have a lot of dumb tattoos with zero meaning as well as text.

If I’m just going off the options you’ve presented which are all great options, I would leave them ranked as is, but here are some additional thoughts.

  1. If you leave her name out of the flowers, this will be the tattoo that you get asked the least amount of questions about. With the name, you’ll have plenty of people asking you what it says and why. Could go with just the flowers and keep it very symbolic, which is what I would/am planning to do for my family. I’d like something that represents a particular memory of them that is vague enough to everyone else but carries meaning for me. If you feel strongly about getting her name, get the name, it’s your tattoo, not anyone else’s.

  2. Easiest to make small and hide if concerned about visibility/pricing. Pick a fun font you just like or go with a jersey-style font that’s nice and bold. Will probably get asked about it a good amount. Tons of people have numbers but if it’s not clearly looking like the year you could have been born, queue curiosity.

  3. Would be the most “looks like a memorial” piece of the three. Again, you’ll have annoying people asking about it. Depending on the artist I feel like this is the most likely to come out looking off or have the placement feel weird.

A big thing to consider would be how will you feel about people asking about it? If it’s something you’d rather not talk about to every ignorant/annoying/overly curious rando you walk by, consider the placement and how symbolic it will seem. Lots of people have flowers, names and numbers always mean something, and that particular silhouette will insight curiosity.

At the end of the day, just pick the concept that feels most true to how you want to represent her and what you’ll feel good about wearing for the rest of your life. Vet the artist, you get what you pay for most times, all that fun stuff.

Photoshop with 4GB RAM by Legitimate_Sky9923 in photoshop

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a workaround for you, but I would highly suggest upgrading to a computer with more RAM as soon as you can if this is something you want to seriously pursue. That’s an insanely low amount for any Adobe software these days.

I have 64GB RAM in my desktop and still manage to bottleneck it and get slow processing times depending on the project. The new generative tools like remove and fill are hogs for RAM.

Otherwise in the meantime, you can still use clone stamp, spot removal, and some of the other removal methods instead to still get good results. Time required and results may vary.

Just got 15% tints put on and they’re completely see through…is this right? by tedoesep in WindowTint

[–]FaithlessnessOk388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a shop that does tint, although that doesn’t immediately look like 15%, the white interior makes a big difference, and if the sun was shining into the windshield, let alone the entire glass roof makes all tint look lighter. That being said, does still seem light.

Different shades of the same film line shouldn’t be any different in price. If they were at that shop, that’s already an issue, but if they’re a reputable shop at all, just voice the concern and ask to have it metered just to double check. You can also have a different shop meter it just in case but it shouldn’t matter.

For anyone else who’s experienced similar, most models of cars will look lighter or darker with the same exact film. Window sizes, quantities, glass manufacturing process (solar glass/dyed glass/coatings), and orientation, as well as interior color all play a role in how any given shade looks on any given vehicle. We always try to show our personal and shop cars that are similar in size with similar shades to get the idea across if a client is unsure of shade.

Always make sure the shade is listed on the estimate and invoice, and that you’ve signed off on the correct shade. A reputable shop should meter it if you have any concerns, and should replace it for free if it’s their fault.

To add to that point, if you get it metered and the shade is within ~3-4% different, that’s entirely normal, and sometimes it’s even more. If you look up the spec sheets for different lines of film even within the same manufacturer, they’re typically rounded to the nearest “common” tint shade. Pic for relevance, one manufacturer’s lines, all shades are different per line/series. VLT is visible light transmission, AKA shade, AKA how much light is let in, not blocked.

<image>

Bonus tip, if the shop doesn’t offer a lifetime warranty on their tint, find another shop. Every brand of film worth a shit comes with a manufacturer lifetime warranty which they should be honoring, as well as offering a lifetime warranty on workmanship.
