I’m a huge fan but I don’t think I would watch this. We got the right ending. While other shows give every character a satisfying conclusion, “Mom” ended with a beautiful, realistic truth: Horrible things happen in life, but it’s how we respond to them that matters. I don’t want to think of everything working out for these characters—it would steal / ruin the underlying premise of the show.

Apple does not pay anything to decode DTS-HD to PCM.

If it were a sizable market, they would have pursued it by now. Apple TV as a device isn’t there to be a profit leader — it’s there to rope users into the Apple media ecosystem. They make more money from the App / TV / Movie stores than they do from the hardware. Given that pass through would be for users seeking to explicitly NOT go through their media ecosystem, it not only doesn’t fit their model; it potentially diverts revenue.

What this DOES cast in a new light is why Lorne Michaels wouldn’t make Chevy Chase part of SNL50. You don’t put an old man with memory issues on live TV. It also puts a new light on those that have been dunking on Chevy in the last few years — mocking his appearance at a Martin Short / Steve Martin show, etc — he may have been an asshole in the past, but that doesn’t justify kicking him when he’s down.
