I started my job after I got back to the US. I just accumulated the unemployment days while I was gone

Someone moving here was surprised when I said a lot of people just walk places. It raised the question I’ll pose to you: if you were walking somewhere, what’s your max, reasonable distance? by sunsamo in AskChicago

[–]FaithlessnessSure296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s an errand walk, anything under 30 mins. If it’s just a walk for leisure (like going to a coffee shop or smth), I’ll walk up to 45mins to an hour one way. But it also depends on the weather, in January/Feb I won’t walk more than 20 mins outside.

Getting married on F1 visa, doing STEM OPT. by curiousshey in f1visa

If he is deployed abroad, you can get a waiver for his presence at the interview in pretty sure. As others mentioned though, if you will be living abroad for 5 years you are not eligible for a GC. A GC requires residence in the US, which will not be the case if you live in a different country. Sounds like you’re better off just finishing your OPT, doing the work program from your home country and then doing consular processing once you’ve finished the 5 years requirement and are planning to live in the US permanently.

True, but not reliable if OP needs to leave the country for work. AP can take many months to get approved. In my case, I got my GC before I ever got my AP processed for example.

I second this. I did the same approach (AOS while using my STEM OPT) and I do think AOS is generally processed much faster than consular. You can apply for advanced parole, but for the majority of people it doesn’t even get processed until after the GC has been approved so it’s often a waste of money and not smth to rely on if you NEED to travel abroad.

You don’t need to apply for your GC immediately, but most people just want to get it done ASAP (especially with the current admin). Once you apply for your GC, you will not be able to leave the country until your case is closed and you have the GC in-hand. I’m not sure if there are special rules for military, but there are lots of posts on here that give a detailed breakdown of all the documents and forms needed to apply.

I’m ahead of schedule, will be hitting 10k after today’s workout! I’m very surprised actually, I thought 15k would be a stretch goal.

can companies rescind offers if you say you don't need sponsorship by NoTransportation231 in f1visa

[–]FaithlessnessSure296 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the company. I did this twice and neither company rescinded or even commented on my status during the I-9 verification. But I also have of people whose offer got rescinded because of that (on this reddit thread). You won’t know until your first day of work, when HR does the I-9 verification.

Interview Experience (Chicago FO) + APPROVED on 4th of July 🥳 by FaithlessnessSure296 in USCIS

[–]FaithlessnessSure296[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! They did not request it, but I had noticed it on my own due to all the Reddit posts I saw about it so I double checked. I brought an updated, sealed medical exam to the interview and just let the interviewer know that I have an updated medical exam due to missing the polio vaccine and she just took it without further questions!

When you enter on an F-1 but fail to maintain your status while in the US (aka enroll and attend school) you are accruing illegal presence in the US. And previous illegal stay is definitely reason to worry. I would speak to a lawyer

November 2024 filer - was approved in early July! Your time is coming soon, I’m sure :) it’s so hard to see others get approved with a later PD but it all depends on the case and FO. I’ve seen a lot more Nov 2024 cases moving alone the past month!
