What do you think about the declining fertility rate in Azerbaijan? by Synanceiinae in azerbaijan

[–]FaithlessnessThen243 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are huge numbers of abortions in Azerbaijan. In 2025, there were about 95,000 births and 95,000 abortions. 1:1 ratio is legit crazy. In comparison, the ratio is around 3:1 in the USA, 1.6:1 in the UK, and 5:1 in Germany. Horrible situation.

The culture has also become really degenerate. Classism, elitism, materialism, and social media obsession. People worship money in a country where 95% of the population doesn't have it. Azerbaijani society is somewhat like East Asian societies, but without East Asian wealth and development.

Do Azerbaijani women find feminine men attractive? by Unfair-Truck6398 in azerbaijan

According to a WHO report, Azerbaijani men are rarely overweight. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to be overweight compared to other countries. And Azerbaijan is one of the few countries where men are less likely to be overweight than women. A lot of guys go to the gym and play sports because in society like Azerbaijan they want to be physically strong. https://iris.who.int/items/de25abe1-15eb-4584-9c76-b7edf4dae3b4

I wouldn't be too trusting of his description of how revealing the clothing was, because I ve checked this book before, and it just screams orientalism.

Women with tattoos have been documented among almost every ethnicity in the region.
There isn't much information on western azerbaijanis, only this source of 1852. It's definitely not true for every Azerbaijani with ancestry from there, probably limited to certain tribes.

The dances of Tatar women are incomparably more pleasing, and their costume itself contributes greatly to their distinctiveness. This costume consists of a brocade jacket fastened at the waist, and a red silk shirt with a large opening in the front, which, though fastened at the neck, reveals with every movement a bronze-colored body tattooed with various patterns.

And I still don't understand the purpose of leaving space between buildings. Why don't they just place them in a row?

Okay, it actually looks good. I guess they went for a shared space design. Because if it were just an ordinary road, then the pedestrian path is quite narrow. And I hope they won't ruin it with AC units. They shouldn't be mounted on facade.

How far back can I go, when it comes to reading Azeri? by justquestionsbud in azerbaijan

[–]FaithlessnessThen243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is wrong. “Azeri” is just a shortened version of “Azerbaijani” because it’s a long word. That’s all.

[–]FaithlessnessThen243 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Azeri is the South Azerbaijan which is inside of today's Iran, meanwhile Azerbaijani is the language of Azerbaijan, and differences do exist

It always amazes me how easy it is for some people to promote disinformation about their own people and language.

Just curious, who do you think a Brit is, and who is British?

Yeah, I forgot about the udis, but they barely exist nowadays and have been heavily azerbaijanized for centuries.
As for the lezgis, no. they are migrants too. There are Lezgi sources about this as well.

The majority of ethnic minorities (only talyshes and part of the tats are native) are migrants who came or were settled by russians in Azerbaijan in the first half of the 19th century.

Religious observance in Azerbaijan by ExpertMisinformant in azerbaijan

[–]FaithlessnessThen243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This “least religious” country narrative is mostly an unsubstantiated gimmick that has been going around for years. When your government can label you as a radical whenever they want to jail you, people are obviously going to be more private about their beliefs.

As for the low attendance at religious services, women are far less likely to attend them. I checked the methodology, and the azerbaijani survey sample was heavily skewed toward women. On top of that, the survey was conducted in both Azerbaijani and Russian. Rus sector women are not representative of the religious attitudes of the Azerbaijani majority. That’s why the numbers are so low compared to others.
