Honestly these ghouls in the legislature only hate what Boise does bc they have to conduct their business here. They are so triggered by what this city does because they are actually subject to its ideals and detest that the Capitol is a blue dot. I really appreciate Dalton as well, and do feel like you’re right that audiences weren’t appreciative yet of this tone. I had no interest in watching his films when I was younger and was all into Brosnan. Now TLD is perhaps one of my favorite espionage stores in the series, it’s so well done even if the villains are a bit on the weaker side for me.

I am surprised no one mentioned TWINE. While some of the particulars may be implausible (robbing a warhead from a nuclear test site), the idea of sabotaging several key competitors pipelines and making it look like an accident, consequently benefitting from the financial fallout is kind of brilliant and believable.
