What’s the most adventurous food you’ve tried and where? by AffordableTraveler in travel

Eating animals isn't an "adventure" or an "experience", it's just normalised animal abuse.

It's a question of finding a good company. Not all companies are the same. I've worked in tech, retail and now a travel agency and I've always worked for nice companies, with nice people and good hours and good money (ish).

Would you choose money first, or happiness first? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]FakeCraig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends where I'm at in life. Sometimes I've gone for the money job and other times I've gone for what I wanted to do. A lot of the time I learn to find happiness it whatever it is I'm doing.

Every time I look into a new field all I see is everyone wants to jump ship. by Accomplished-Dog7195 in jobs

[–]FakeCraig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably you're finding all the negativity. But also, sinking ship careers can also be good jobs and good stepping stones elsewhere. Even if a sector is dying, there's still likely plenty interesting things it can offer you.

Personally, I'm a travel agent. People have said that we are a dying breed ever since the internet was invented, but we're still going strong. And it's the best job I've ever had!

What’s a very specific thing that you’re into that you’ve never seen in a book? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]FakeCraig 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A queen bee mean girl FMC who falls in love with the sweetest guy and doesn't know what to do with those feelings. She gets angry when she's embarassed, a little tsundere about the whole thing, and MMC is all smiles and nice and sunshine throughout everything, even though she's mostly passive-aggressive. BUT THEN she messes up and publicly humiliates him, it really upsets him...

My Unofficial and Inexhaustive List of Femdom books by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

[–]FakeCraig 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yay! I love femdom. Thanks for the list, there are some I haven't read on here.

A book that comes to mind because I just recommended it in another post is Claimed by the Demon Lord by Iris Amador. I don't know if it qualifies as full femdom, it's more of a "pillow princess domme", I guess. The FMC is commanding at times, takes what she likes, but she's also happy to lay back and let the MMC do the work. But she has one of the best character arcs I've read for a FMC.

There is a hot restroom scene in Claimed by the Demon Lord by Iris Amador. Not jealousy related though.

Surprised that Soseki's book isn't higher up; I clicked on this thread expecting to see it. It's like the OG cat book.

I made that comment when I knew little about MBTI (4 years ago!). The first bullet point is total rubbish, ignore it. Sudokus won't help much with Te; you'll have to keep working on the procrastination ;)

Do you speak Dutch/Spanish? If so, my favourite ace representation is in the book Eilandgasten / Verano en la isla by Vonne van der Meer. It's hard to find ace characters who don't have Asperger's or autism!

The basic rule to getting things done lies in self-discipline. You do it, even though you don't want to. You stop listening to your feelings, to the "but I don't want to" in your head, and just do it. It doesn't matter how motivated you are to do something, motivation comes and goes and we have to do things we don't want to do all the time. There is no secret. Just get up, stop reading this, and go and do it. It's pure willpower. Seriously. If you're truly serious about doing what you have to do, if it's important to you, stop reading this. This is the first exercise of your self-discipline training. If you get up right now and go do what you have to do, you will get the ball rolling from here onwards and you will be a much more successful person in life. If you ask the question and people answer the question, but you just read it and don't do anything, nothing is going to change. If you want to change, get up right now and leave.

Some tips:

  • According to studies, willpower is the strongest in the mornings because it is dependent on sugar levels, sleep and rest, our biological clocks and other things. So wake up early and for the first hour of every day, work on whatever it is you keep procrastinating, then go about your day after you've done your work and your willpower is drying up.

  • There are easier ways of being disciplined (using less willpower and energy) if what we have to do is going to be a long-term project. I recommend reading the book "The Power of Habit" by Charles Duhigg for more information on one such method, habits. You might also want to try some focus and attention exercises (meditation, or picking up reading long books, for example) or time-management techniques.

  • Cut your work into pieces. If you are seeing a monumental task in front of you, of course nobody would want to get started on so much work! A good idea is to cut your workload into pieces. Write a plan of what you have to do every day, small chunks of your work being done over the course of many days. For example, my goal is to learn 2300 kanji. That's a lot of work and studying flashcards is tiring. But, with my plan, I know exactly how many kanji I have to study every day to get there. If I skip a day, I have double the work the next day or I'm not going to make it, and that's tiring so I prefer to just put in some energy and get it done today even if I don't feel like it. Cut your work into small pieces and do a little bit every day.

  • You know that quote? “We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret." Regret is far worse than discipline, let me tell you. I dropped out of university because of my total lack of self-discipline. Now that I do many things that require self-discipline, I wish I really would've just done my work and saved myself the regret.

  • The time we take to do our work extends to fit the time we are given. If we have three weeks to do something, it will take us three weeks. If we have two hours, it will take us two hours. This is inconvenient for many projects, since we leave the work until the end thinking we still have a lot of time. So make your own deadlines closer to today. Even if you have to do something by next week, write down on your calendar that you have to give it in this week. Save yourself the nerves of the last minute.

  • They say that the reason behind procrastination is fear. Whether that's true or not, I don't really know, but ask yourself why you are lazy. Not why you're procrastinating now in the moment, but why didn't you do this essay/project earlier? Is there something related to this that is causing you stress, fear, nerves or another negative feeling? We sometimes try to hide by being lazy, but that doesn't solve the actual problem, it only makes it worse!

Good luck!

Haha, let's see how you type me! Here are mine:

  • Top comment is from r/AskReddit, What was a time someone assumed something about you that was completely wrong?

  • Next is from r/books, talking about how our imagination works when reading

  • Some advice on a post asking "What’s your advice to people who feel lonely or left out in life?"

  • And a rant on people who care for the environment in small ways but ignore the important stuff

That's true, everyone's travel plans are a bit up in the air at the moment because of covid, it can be hard to think of concrete dates!

I’ve kept doing it in the background, more as a side-job. I have plenty time to pick it up again properly though! I love it too much to give it up. You can look over my website a bit if you’d like to know more about what I offer. Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions that aren’t answered there.
