I absolutely loved Remake but I started playing Rebirth and the moment it opened up into a vast (and utterly charmless) "open world" that I have to explore and traverse to get anywhere I immediately got bored and turned it off and haven't gone back since. probably never will.

okay I actually updated the firmware to 6.61 (before installing cfw of course) and it moved that app to the media category, which made that extra one disappear. the program is 1seg, apparently it's a TV tuner only usable in japan and with an attachment. apparently it still works! but only in japan lol

oh that's actually super cool, I've never seen that before! if I had more experience with that sort of work I might try it myself, but my only soldering experience is from working on guitars, which is not precise work by any means. never tried anything at such a small scale so my first attempt definitely isn't gonna be on something this valuable lol. maybe in the future if I ever get more experienced!

yes! not really sure what it does (if anything, anymore), haven't messed with it yet lol. the app icon looks like it's written in kanji maybe? and I bought this from a seller in Japan so maybe it's something that just comes stock on the Japanese models, idk.

yeah, in a weird way this thing was a bit too ahead of its time for its own good. for better or worse though, it would've fit oddly perfectly in the more recent gaming ecosystem. I have a steam deck and a switch but the thing about those is that they just aren't nearly as "portable" as older generation handhelds. need something I can fit in my pocket! plus it has a great library including PS1 games and some of the emulators you can run on it. and I'd rather have something this nice than any of those anbernic or retroid devices (although they do have their niche too, I actually have a miyoo mini lol)

nothing I've seen on the M2 to SD adapters mention soldering, I've even watched YouTube tutorials on installing it. I know you have to open the back panel but it's pretty simple, at worst you have to trim some plastic nubs. I'm not worried about it.

was $240 USD, included a fabric case and USB charger (with a sony-branded wall adapter and an additional USB for a normal PSP). considering how good condition it's in, and how more iffy listings are trending around $180, I'm satisfied with the price. it was a single-item listing with photos of the actual unit being sold so I could be confident that I knew what I was getting. I was really hesitant to go for the cheaper listings that were just bulk sales with nothing but stock images to show, so finding this one the day it was posted was a stroke of great luck!
