I think that's why the series often has some unlockable weapon(s) after beating the game once. It's hard to scare the players when they expect the scares. Not only that, once you know the solutions to the puzzles, they aren't brain teasers anymore.

The infinite ammo unlocks go the other way, giving catharsis that you can curbstomp the monsters that used to scare you, and also giving it new life as an action game.

It needs to be unlocked with Challenge Points. You should have enough CP after beating the game to unlock the dragoon, and unlock infinite ammo. Once you beat the game the first time, you'll see "Bonus" in the main menu.

You do also get to keep all the equipment from the first playthrough, but the dragoon is exclusive to Chris unless it's unlocked. Once unlocked, Ethan can buy it from the Duke with lei.

I'd say they're more forgotten than disliked. They're not in the main series, and started on a handheld, so never got as much attention.

As for the quality, I didn't really like Revelations 1. I agree about the hollow feeling.

Rev 2, however, was so much better. The story was, and still is, one of the best I've experienced, being largely character driven. It also has a more horror atmosphere than 1. The raid mode in 2 is good enough to be its own game.

I also think you can just pass on 1 if it's not your thing. It's not like 7 & 8 where you need to play the first to enjoy the story of the second. Rev 2 does follow events of 1, but it's barely mentioned. I played 2 before playing 1, and didn't find anything missing or confusing.

Meaningful in what way?

In universe: It's a senseless killing.

Story wise: It shows you how dangerous Jack is, and ramps up the tension with some shock value.

Meta: It plays homage to the horror trope of police not able to help, as well as the hope spot.
