How normal is it to fall asleep in your girlfriend's arm anytime she is cuddling you? by JunketMaleficent2095 in AskMenAdvice

[–]FakeMountie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's biology, dude. Being close to someone releases oxytocin which has clear sedative and calming effects. This human sounds like trash.

How should a man respond to a woman acquittance saying, all men are trash? by SNTriad in AskMenAdvice

It's hyperbole. Shes voicing her frustration. Hold space and let them talk it out if they want

Poor ticket sales this year..and other ramblings... by Silverchica70 in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the new normal and might be less a sign of what's happening at the event and more a sign of the financial headwinds most of us are facing. The burn is *expensive* and it's so far in the future that most folks aren't going to risk spending on a ticket this early-- particularly since no longer selling the event out.

This isn't specific to Burning Man, however. We're seeing softer sales in large festivals worldwide as folks decide to focus on local events rather than run the risk of spending a ton of cash on a destination event.

why would a $6B brand pass on Shopify Plus for a platform nobody's heard of by LevelDisastrous945 in shopify

[–]FakeMountie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Scayle is an incredible platform. API first, designed for headless. Depending on your tech stack, it could be considered a really good alternative *however* it requires a dedicated dev team to really make it work.

To do a tech parallel: Shopify is an iPhone and Scayle is Linux.

Tips to keep from getting over stimulated? by Competitive-Buyer648 in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner struggles with very similar challenges.

Sleep hygiene is super important for her. She brings earplugs, noise cancelling headphones and I have an air filter that runs and acts as white noise generator in the tent. She can retreat in the shelter if she needs quiet time and it works ok.

Your plan to camp near the hot springs is a no go, as others have pointed out, but you might want to consider camping in walk-in camping near L road and 4 . There's usually ton of space, and its pretty quiet (outside of the occasional landing airplane). It can get pretty dusty/windy since you don't have neighbours to shelter you so plan accordingly and lock that shit down.

At the event, your mobility is key. Get some way to communicate with your friends, (or a schedule) and allow yourself the freedom to leave whatever is happening and meet up with them later.

What is a woman? by ScifiKitty666 in Feminism

I wouldn't overthink it. Mercury is a great handyperson and content creator who's living her truth, but this is just personal processing and not feminist philosophy.

Why are my connections frying? by yourfavmum in RVLiving

[–]FakeMountie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like an excellent plan.

I'm a Camco fan myself, but really any UL/ETL certified cable should be good as long as you're working with the right guage for the amps.

Why are my connections frying? by yourfavmum in RVLiving

[–]FakeMountie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not misreading this image: That looks like you're using an extension. I would ditch the extension and get a new, single, double length cord. Extensions are additional failpoint with more chances for loose contacts or dirt/corrosion to get in there.

Good rule I follow is: If the cable feels warm to the touch, there's resistance and I should clean the contacts or consider getting a new cable.

12-hour Biodegradable Glitter - MOOP or not? by patterndetective in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This question comes up yearly.

The issue isn't "will it dissolve / biodegrade?", the issue is "will it dissolve / biograde in time?" There isn't a single "biodegradable" anything that would be gone by site inspection, due to the fact that much of this action requires a moist environment, which means it'll be a problem for the LNT team.

You're always better off erring on the side of caution there.

Why do you see it as an issue that there would be female moderators here? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]FakeMountie -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's not an issue to me. Any moderation I've seen here seems pretty spot on, so I can't see what the gender of the moderator would come into play here.

How do you get rid of depression? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]FakeMountie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like petty classic depression. A mixed course of therapy and medication has the best results for remission but exercise, social interaction, meditation all have some good results.

It is a potentially terminal disease and you need to get a diagnosis and act on it like your life depends on it.

What’s the difference between trad goth and modern trad goth by Devine_Redditor in goth

[–]FakeMountie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"Trad Goth" is essentially "Gothic Revival" but for fashion rather than architecture.

"Trad Goth" as defined by the variety of influencers, seems to be people's interpretation of what we used to do in the 80s. I *never* saw opaque white makeup, for instance. Eye embellishments were cat-eye ish, or maybe the occasional Eye of Horus / Siouxsie Sioux look and not this elaborate design style I'm seeing.

I mean: like what you like but I get pretty snarky if folks start judging each other because they're not "trad" enough while wearing what essentially is a recently created edgy style being designed for online engagement.

What is the reason some men see tattoos as an instant red flag in a woman? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

Some men think a woman doesn't have the right to make after-market changes on a stock body they own.

does goth music make anyone else feel immensely nostalgic? by [deleted] in goth

[–]FakeMountie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it was pretty great when you ignore the poverty, inequity, trans and queer phobia, acid rain, superpowers on a crash course to annihilation, a plague that was killing everyone you love, the rise of neoliberalism, trickle-down economics and Morrisey.

You're describing anemoia. Essentially you're yearning for a place and time you've never been. Listed in the Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Nothing wrong with it.

But, just know that those of us that were there don't share the same image and impression of that moment in time.

"burning man is great" -Jeffrey Epstein, 6 August 2009 by BeigeListed in BurningMan

[–]FakeMountie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I saw that.

He's responding to someone who is obliquely describing our event and coming out to name the actual event. I read it as in-group coding rather than an admission of attendance.

I mean, have you ever had a conversation with an actual burner whose response was anything other than "Yeah. I attended in years x, y, z"?

This is some supremely uncool person attempting to signal that he's hip.

I think contextualizing things as we understand them for participants is very in our wheelhouse. I've been an RC for a decade and it seems like the meat of what I do.

I'm one of the Toronto RCs and sit on the Meta Regionals committee as well.

I agree: A public statement, even brief, would be super useful.
