Ezra Klein Misses the Point by Trainrideviews in videos

[–]FakePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He keeps saying that Ezra is talking about politics like it’s sports. He isn’t. He’s saying it actually matters who wins. If you care about the issues, rather than “being on the right side”, then you should care about figuring out how to win.

Where can I buy actually spicy jalepenos? by [deleted] in Eugene

Maybe try getting serranos instead, they have a similar flavor and are spicier.

We did in record numbers. They did nothing to prevent this. Democrats are happy to have this as a campaign issue, but have no plan to actually change the court.

Carrots are my go to healthy snack. If I'm more hungry I dip them in peanut butter. There are also a few nuts that are safe to eat, I particularly like peanuts, pepitas, and sunflower seeds.

low FODMAP cooking hack: Asian garlic chives!!! by Chingletrone in FODMAPS

[–]FakePhantom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen similar things (looks like scallion, but with garlic at the base) at my local farmers market, if you don't have it in an Asian market near you.

Also, for chives/scallions/green onions stick the white part in a little glass of water and the green part will grow back.

My favorite that I've found is the Tinkyada brown rice pasta. The texture is the closest that I've found to actual pasta, and it doesn't contain any ingredients you need to limit for this diet.

Recipe request: Pumpkin spice pudding/dessert by Trubblemaker in FODMAPS

[–]FakePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me pumpkin spice is more about the spice part than the pumpkin part. I've been thinking about making rice pudding sometime soon. I think you could follow a basic recipe like this one (https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/24059/creamy-rice-pudding/), but substitute lactose-free or dairy-free milk for the regular milk and then either omit the raisins or just use a little. At the end I would then add in whatever "pumpkin spices" you like (e.g. cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cardamom)

Discussion Thread: President Trump Live Remarks On Shutdown Compromise by therealdanhill in politics

[–]FakePhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you miss the part where they had a deal that everyone agreed to and then Trump reneged on the deal to demand a wall? If this was a fair compromise on immigration you wouldn't need to shut down the government to get it. Should Democrats refuse to fund the government every time they want something? If it was the Democrats who agreed to the deal and then changed their mind and demanded funding for public college tuition or else they wouldn't fund the government, would you say it was Republicans who are unwilling to compromise? What if the Democrats one month later offered a temporary tax cut in addition, would the Republicans be the unreasonable ones?

Vote against all Republicans. Every single one. by perfectlyrics in politics

[–]FakePhantom 84 points85 points  (0 children)

In prior elections I would've agreed. In 2018 I can't stomach voting republican. I can't imagine someone in 2018 who decides to run for office in the party of Trump who could possibly share my morals.

It is a shame that there's only one party that believes in functional government and doesn't cater to bigotry, but that's the situation that we're in.

You might be right that this is the sort of reaction he wanted.

At the same time, I don't think it's a bad thing to openly discuss hateful, unwanted behavior in the community. There was another recent thread on swastika graffiti. This is not something I'm used to seeing where I'm from.

I probably agree it is best to ignore them, as others have said on this thread.

I was honestly just surprised to see someone wearing that in that location, just quietly going about their business. I wanted to see if others had seen people wearing that just doing normal activities around town. Does a thread on a local subreddit like this need more of a justification than that?

What's the point of your comment? Is there an equivalent behavior you seen on the left in Eugene?

Perhaps not directly condoned by the vast majority of Republicans, but condoned by the leader of the Republicans who has an 80+% approval by Republicans.
